  2. Rory on the rangepublished at 00:58 BST 12 April

Rory McIlroy made his way straight to the range at Augusta National after his round to try and fix a number of issues with his game.

He's arguably the best driver of a golf ball of his generation yet he's been poor off the tee - he hit just eight fairways today and his 50% rate for the tournament is the worst of anyone left in the field.

McIlroy has also struggled with the irons, hitting 10 of 18 greens in regulation - that's just not a combination that you can live with at Augusta.

He'll need to improve those numbers if he's to retain his masters title.

Never a dull moment with the five-time major champion is there?

  4. 'I wish I was a few shots better off'published at 00:44 BST 12 April

    McIlroy -11 (73)

More from Rory McIlroy, who is tied for the lead heading into Sunday's final Masters round after losing a six-shot second-round advantage: "I kept just thinking, you know, I dropped to two-over for the day after 12. I thought if I can just shoot even par or even under par, that would be great. Didn't quite get there, but yeah, I stuck to focusing on myself, which is the main thing.

"I'd like to think that I'll play a little bit freer [on Sunday] and I'll play, you know, like I've already got a Green Jacket, which I do. Sometimes I maybe just have to remind myself of that, but I think as well that the stakes in terms of, like, the pairing will be just a little bit easier. You know, the atmosphere out there will be a little bit easier.

"I'm not worried about that at all. I wish I was a few shots better off, but I'm comfortable. I played with Cam the first two days. Playing with him again tomorrow. I think it's a comfortable group for both of us."

Rory McIlroy speaking to Sky Sports, after carding a one-over 73 to share the lead with Cameron Young, heading into the final day of the Masters:

"I knew today wasn’t going to be easy. The quality of the chasing pack was very obvious and a lot of the guys went out and played superb golf.

"Starting with Scottie (Scheffler) and then Cam (Young) and everyone else. I didn’t quite have it today, even from the first hole, making that soft bogey.

"I was doing my best to hang on, I scrambled a lot on the front nine. I felt like I turned it around with the birdie on 10 and then I got lucky back out on the fairway at 11, I felt like I hit a good second shot but it just started to ride the wind a little bit.

"I bounced back well with birdies on 14 and 15, disappointed to make a bogey in the last couple of holes. I would have wanted to be in a better position going into tomorrow starting out with a six shot lead but I still have a great chance.

"I’m in the final group which is exactly where you want to be. I wish I had a little bit more of a cushion but I’m going to go to the range and try to figure it out and I’ll need to be better tomorrow."

  6. 'People have been pulling for me'published at 00:32 BST 12 April

    Rose -8 (69)

England's Justin RoseImage source, Getty Images

England's Justin Rose speaking after the third round: "I mean, after Saturday I was pretty crushed actually last year. I felt like I had really given away the Masters and any opportunity I had to win that day. I think I had way too many putts.

WI think I lost five strokes on the greens that particular day, played really nicely tee to green, turned a 69 to a 75 is how it felt. I started the day seven back. Yeah, you know you can shoot 61. You know you can, but seven back is a long way to come from.

WThis week has been a lot more consistent from that point of view, and so it feels a little different going into tomorrow. I think I had to have a big mental reset going into the final round last year. You know, this year it's like it feels like a little bit of a free run at it.

"People have been pulling for me this week. That's a double-edged sword. If you get going with that momentum, it can really, really help. If your game is not quite living up to their hopes for you, it can kind of feel frustrating at times."

  7. 'We'll see what everyone is made of' on Sundaypublished at 00:29 BST 12 April

    Lowry -9 (68)

    Shane LowryImage source, Getty Images

Shane Lowry on Rory McIlroy's struggles: "I thought if Rory could shoot a 68 today he might run away with the tournament. The course, they made it a bit more gettable today.

"But the thing is, it's not easy to go out and go after it when you're at the top of the leaderboard.

"Not that it's easy to do it. But when you're down the field and you're just having a go at it, it makes it a little bit easier and you can play a bit more freely. When you are out there in the hunt you need to be a little bit more protective of what you are doing."

On why it's all about Sunday: "But we all know it's all about tomorrow. You know what I mean? Obviously it matters, today, but when we get to tomorrow, that's when, you know, we'll see what everyone is made of."

  8. 'I'll remember that for a while'published at 00:24 BST 12 April

    Lowry -9 (68)

Lowry hits a hole in one at the sixth

Shane Lowry on his latest hole-in-one: "That's wild, isn't it? Made one a couple of weeks ago in Houston.

"You don't ever expect to make a hole-in-one. I just couldn't believe it. Obviously, you know, you're out there, and you're in the hunt at the Masters and you're making hole-in-one, it's pretty cool.

"The walk down the sixth hole with everyone around 16 and the 6th was very special. I'll remember that for a while. Yeah, it was obviously amazing."

  9. Can Young match Woods' featpublished at 00:21 BST 12 April

    Young -11 (65)

Young hits a birdie at the sixteenth to tie for the lead

Cameron Young carded a seven-under 65 in the third round which is the lowest he's ever gone around Augusta National.

The world number three was in a tie for 33rd after the first round and how's this for an omen.

Tiger Woods sat in the same position after round one in 2005, the worst opening-round position of any player who went on to win the Masters.

  11. 'You want to be the underdog'published at 00:08 BST 12 April

    Andrew Magee
PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think you want to be the underdog. You want to be Sam Burns.

Everybody’s talking about Cam Young. He’s had this great resurgence. It started at the Ryder Cup – he got so much confidence, then he went into The Players and won a huge tournament and his confidence is soaring, and everybody knows it.

Sam Burns, not much and he’s right where he wants to be.

Justin Rose is under the radar a little bit also.

  12. 'A hot start can erase a lot'published at 00:06 BST 12 April

    Young -11 (65)

    Media caption,

Young hits a birdie at the sixteenth to tie for the lead

World number three Cameron Young speaking after a seven-under 65, put him into a share of the lead at the Masters: "It feels pretty good. It's a place that I love. I've been fortunate enough to play, this is my fifth Masters, and every time I come back it's a special place to be. A Saturday 65 is not something I can complain about.

"I don't get the sense I'll be the fan favourite [on Sunday], but yeah, I feel like the support, some fans that cheer for me have got louder over the last year. It will still be lopsided, I think. Rory's kind of a world favourite in the golf world. A year ago, if I'd been in the same situation, there would have been very little, and now there's probably a little more. So I'll take what I can get, and I'll be happy with that."

Asked what winnig the Masters would mean: "It would be an incredible day. It's something I've dreamed of doing for a long time. I like the position I'm in. If you had said on Thursday at about noon that I was going to be within a couple of the lead going into Sunday, I would have taken it in a heartbeat, especially given the fact that I was watching Rory play.

"Any time you're around the lead in a major, especially here, anything can happen. We saw today a slow start and a hot start can erase a lot. It's just kind of a matter of keeping myself in it tomorrow and doing the best I can to stay around the lead for as long as possible, and you see what happens at the end."

  13. McIlroy cards 73 to share lead with Youngpublished at 00:03 BST 12 April

    McIlroy -11 (73), Burns -10 (68)

Can Rory McIlroy produce a grandstand finish to a trying round?

    It's a good effort but he doesn't quite give it enough and that's a par for a third-round 73.

He'll be disappointed for sure but tomorrow's a new day. He bogeyed the first hole today and looked out-of-sorts for the majority of the round, with a brainfade on 11 costing him a double bogey. Four birdies, three bogeys and double. Plenty for him to ponder.

McIlroy will have Cameron Young for company again tomorrow after they played together on Thursday and Friday.

Sam Burns finishes with par for a bogey-free 68 and he will enter the final round just one back. He'll be paired with Shane Lowry.

  14. Rose finishes with a parpublished at 00:00 BST 12 April

    Reed -6, Rose -8, (F)

A regulation par for Justin Rose as he closes with a bogey-free 69 that again could've been a whole lot better had the putter been working.

But the overall golf is good, he's giving himself chances and not giving away shots with bogeys, so if he can find it on the greens tomorrow he could yet be a danger.

Patrick Reed closes with a bogey and a level-par round of 72 which is a massive surprise given he opened with three birdies in a row.

Bogeys on four and five knocked the stuffing out of him and he just couldn't recover from there - and much like Rose he struggled on the greens.

  15. Postpublished at 23:57 BST 11 April

    McIlroy -11, Burns -10 (17)

An absolutely towering approach from McIlroy gives him around 20 feet for a closing birdie and a one-shot lead heading into the final round.

Burns cuts a beauty around the trees but it dies on the ridge and falls back down towards the front of the green. He'll do well to two-putt from there.

  16. Postpublished at 23:52 BST 11 April

    McIlroy -11, Burns -10 (17)

That's one of Rory's best drives today. He lashes it way up the fairway on 18. He puffs his cheeks as he strides off the tee but he'll be targeting a closing birdie to sneak ahead of Cameron Young.

Sam Burns misses the fairway on the right and his ball looks close to a tree.

Jason Day on his approach to Sunday: "I feel like the guys that are leading right now have all the pressure.

"I'm just kind of - I'm the chaser. Usually the chasers don't really have a lot of the pressure. Guys at the top of the leaderboard always are trying to defend the lead, whereas I'm pushing forward trying to cut into the lead.

"I feel good about my game. I feel very happy with where things are. I'm looking forward to the challenge at least. If I can get myself around the lead on the back side, I'll be very pleased."

McIlroy is heavy-handed with his chip but it stays on the green, which is looking really sun-beaten now.

He has around 10 feet for par. This is really important. Ohhh, he leaves it in the jaws!

Burns doesn't judge the break of his birdie putt but he collects another par.

  20. 'Another test of the McIlroy wedge game'published at 23:47 BST 11 April

    McIlroy -12 (16)

    Iain Carter
BBC golf correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Live

[McIlroy] has scored better than he’s played. His long game has not been out of his top drawer by any stretch of the imagination.

It is actually remarkable that he’s leading this tournament.

This is another test of the wedge game.
