Charles Leclerc took Ferrari's second win in three races in a dramatic British Grand Prix as chaos broke out in the closing stages.

Leclerc, claiming his first victory for nearly two years, led home Mercedes' George Russell and Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton as the race finished confusingly under a safety car.

Race control initially said the safety car would be coming in with one lap to go, setting the scene for a thrilling one-lap dash to the finish, but it then stayed out, meaning the order remained the same until the chequered flag.

After the race, a statement from governing body the FIA said "the 'safety car in this lap' message was displayed erroneously due to a software error".

The United States Grand Prix in 2024 was Charles Leclerc's last grand prix victory, so no doubt the celebrations for the Monegasque driver's British Grand Prix triumph - which is also Ferrari's 250th win - will go long into the night.

There are only two races left before the summer break and Kimi Antonelli's title lead, which was 43 points after his sprint race victory on Saturday, is now down to 25 points following his P16 at Silverstone on Sunday.

The Italian was chasing down leader Leclerc from P2 when his Mercedes suddenly ran into issues, and now he's looking over his shoulder in the drivers' championship after being in a such commanding position only a few races ago.

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has also said Lewis Hamilton has not received a penalty after an investigation by the stewards for a yellow-flag infringement, so I think we can safely say the seven-time world champion can add another home podium to his career stats.

Thanks for joining us this weekend, folks. If you were at Silverstone, we hope you had a great time.

We're all off to the historic Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for the Belgian Grand Prix next, from 17-19 July.

    See you soon!

  3. 'Happy to score points on home turf' - Lindbladpublished at 18:14 BST

Racing Bulls' Arvid Lindblad after finishing P7: "It was a good start. I knew with Max , it was always going to be interesting. Unfortunately, I had an issue again with deployment on turn six, Liam passed me. If that hadn't had happened, I would've been able to stay ahead of him. Regardless, good day for the team, we were able to capitalise off the mistakes of the guys in front of us. Happy to score points on home turf."

"It's very complicated for some of the engineers because there's some strange rules. There's some weird stuff that happens. If you lift at certain speeds, you get no deployment."

"It's the way it is at the moment, this year. It' a little bit frustrating, the team told me it would be fixed, they said not lift in turn five but don't boost. It's just the way it is."

  4. 'Just another painful weekend' - Verstappenpublished at 18:12 BST

Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who crashed out of the British Grand Prix, speaking to Sky Sports: "Same as Austria, the rear wing just doesn't close. I saw the analysis, it looks like it closes, but it doesn't. It closes but it is open and you lose a lot of rear downforce that is why the car spins off the track. When it happens one time, it can happen, you know faults happen. But two times, it is getting very dangerous for me because you can really hurt yourself at these high speed corners when it happens."

On whether the issue can be a quick fix: "Different fault [to the issue in Austria]. We got lucky right, I mean Lewis had that five second penalty, we had a VSC at one point, George had a slow puncture, Kimi had a problem and what's why you put yourself in that position. Even if we finished on the podium, it would have been a podium we didn't deserve on pace because on the hard tyres, we're nowhere.

"I had no grip. I'm surprised, I got a bit lucky with George and Lewis fighting, it was actually quite entertaining to watch in my mirrors. I was like thank you!, but we were just simply too slow. On the medium maybe a little bit better but still the balance is so far out for me, the whole weekend. I can't push at all. At least you hope in a difficult weekend, balance-wise you can finish the race but we can't do that all the time so it is just another painful weekend."

  5. 'I'm so happy for George' - Wolffpublished at 18:09 BST

Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff, on today's race: "The sweet part of the day is, I'm so happy for George and the team. It's a difficult weekend, he didn't gel with the car, there was straight line problems yesterday. A driver needs to feel comfortable in the car. For him to go P2 at Silverstone, I'm so happy for him."

On Antonelli: "We left him out, he would've caught Charles at the end, it would've been an epic battle. It's on us, a car should not breaks."

"He couldn't turn it anymore. First it was blocked by a carbon part. We don't know what happened, it's just theories at the moment. We had more than a handful of laps left, in any case, it would've been great to watch these two drivers, Ferrari against Mercedes, battle it out."

  6. 'The results have been amazing' - Norrispublished at 18:06 BST

McLaren's Lando Norris, speaking Sky Sports, after finishing P4: "From a points perspective, this weekend has been pretty good. I'm happy, would've liked one more lap of racing at the end though. George was on old tyres, so he was at a disadvantage. Lewis would've looked to overtake him, I think I could've taken advantage of that."

"The Results have been amazing. On the contrary, the pace was pretty shocking. The things that were important were good, the car was just so difficult. We have a hell of a lot to improve."

On the atmosphere: "It has been amazing. Below the podium, there's a lot of yellow. It would've been beautiful to see it at the top of the podium. Every lap I could see the fans, these moments are the moments you want to cherish forever. it's almost more exciting than finishing on the podium, or winning a race elsewhere. These are the things I'll miss one day. It's so special, a big thanks to my fans, it was pretty mindblowing."

  7. 'Not right to wait'published at 18:01 BST

Sky Sports' Martin Brundle on the safety car staying out for the final lap: "It is not right to wait, especially on long circuits, to wait for lapped cars to get through. They should either drop back... they were half a lap away. The whole reason that came in was to stop lapped runners getting in the way of a big grandstand finish, that is what that was all about and sometimes that brings players back in and suddenly they are back in the race again. There is a show element to that.

"The regulations say that if the race director considers it safe to do so - it was safe because it was a dry day, not pouring with rain or debris all over the track - the message 'lapped cars may now overtake' will be sent to all competitors and the others must stay on the racing lines when they are going through.

"It then goes on to say having overtaken the F1 cars on the lead lap, the safety car will extinguish its light. There is nothing to say they have to be at the back of the queue. It just says they have to go through at a reasonable speed. Whatever it is, it needs changing."

Three Brits within the top four. Not bad for a British Grand Prix. Anything can happen in this sport, yet it is what it is. Sure, a British victory would've been nice, yet we had a scintillating race. This is why Silverstone is the true home off the F1 world.

  9. 'Ferrari were able to frustrate Mercedes'published at 17:55 BST

Charles Leclerc was in with a chance by qualifying on the front row and he out-qualified Lewis, who was in in-form Lewis.

He has found something and as he explained, he has worked hard to try and understand what he was losing and he has found something he feels and he delivered by qualifying on the front row and then had a great start.

They were always in great position to be able to thwart or frustrate Mercedes. If Kimi had got away into clear air, I think they may not have had such an opportunity but of course with the bad luck with the Mercedes, really rare bad luck.

This time George was the beneficiary of someone else's bad luck.

  10. 'One extra motivation to be back stronger' - Antonellipublished at 17:52 BST

Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli, who failed to score points at Silverstone: "Today had to go this way unfortunately. I couldn't even get one point. When things looked like I was still going to be able to get one point, the safety car came out and I got the penalty. It's a rule but I find it a bit unfair. It's OK if you go off and are gaining. I couldn't keep the car on track in that instance. I was trying my best to stay on track, I couldn't. After the stop, the car felt drivable, but the car wasn't turning in the corners. I still thought that I could get one point, couldn't even get that."

"I hit the kerb every lap. The lap I hit it less than previous laps, I could feel instantly that something broke. The team were trying to understand, it didn't go our way. It was a shame because I think we had a real shot for the win today."

"It's one extra motivation to be back stronger and do even better."

Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton, speaking to Sky Sports, on losing P2: "I don't really remember, I was I P2, then we stopped. We couldn't have predicted that [safety car], we did what we thought was right.

"Congrats to Charles, he did a great job today. All the magic that I had on Friday disappeared over the weekend. I went through a yellow flag and I didn't see it and jumped the start. When it rains it pours."

    "I'll probably get a penalty, I'm sure."

Why on earth did Ferrari call in both cars during the final safety car period? Lewis lost 2nd.

Being very cynical, Hamilton was robbed of another chance to win his home grand prix, just like his 8th title!

Mercedes' George Russell, after finishing in second place: "Firstly, congratulations to Charles, he drove a good race. Great to be here at Silverstone, my first podium, so really pleased to be standing here. Even though it was a very lucky race, I had the puncture but I was lucky to get the safety car at the end."

"It would've been great for the fans for it to have restarted. But, by the end my tyres were stone cold, so I was glad to bring it home in second. Tough weekend but overall, good to be standing here.."

"In qualifying, we had some straight line speed issues. I don't know if it was still there in the race but I'm going to keep pushing. These Ferrari guys look really quick, game on."

  17. 'This is just so fantastic' - Hamiltonpublished at 17:26 BST

Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton who finished the British Grand Prix in third: "Firstly a big, big congratulations to Charles, winning at this grand prix is such a special experience and this is a great result for our team. Congratulations to our team. I just didn't have it today, I jumped the start, got a five second penalty but Charles had the pace on me today. I struggled with the balance of the car, I gave it everything and I am grateful to be up here."

On whether Ferrari can take the fight to the Mercedes: "I mean it looks like it. I am not really sure what happened to Kimi but the team is doing a phenomenal job. We have some work still to do to really close the gap on pure performance. Look at these results, two wins this year, this is just so fantastic."

  18. 'I am so incredibly happy' - Leclercpublished at 17:23 BST

    Charles LeclercImage source, Getty Images

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc who has won the British Grand Prix: "It feels incredible. Unfortunately the end was maybe not the one I will have dreamt of but I mean to win after the last few weekends that have been particularly difficult. All the work we put in to try and get the feeling back in the car, it felt like I found something yesterday between the sprint race and qualifying but I had to confirm that today and today the feeling was back where it needs to be. I am so incredibly happy."

On having a reset: "After Monaco the feeling wasn't there, I crashed in Q3 and then in the race an issue that ended the race and then Saturday in Barcelona the feeling was good but then I crashed again. That was very difficult mentally and then on Sunday we had an issue with the car and Austria wasn't so great but here we managed to put everything together. I really hope I can keep that momentum going forwards. A huge thank you to the team for working so hard."

  19. Postpublished at 17:21 BST

Let's have a look at what the top three had to say.

Now, these interviews are from right after the race, but Lewis Hamilton has just being doing the rounds in the media pen and seems pretty deflated. While he stressed he doesn't know the outcome of his yellow flag infringement investigation, he seems pretty certain he is going to get a penalty.
