Charles Leclerc was left heartbroken after his early crash out of Ferrari's home Italian Grand Prix, and the Monegasque has speaking to the media about what happened today at Monza.

On his scrap with team-mate Lewis Hamilton, Leclerc said: "With Lewis, it was way too close into Turn One. And unfortunately in Turn Two, I don't know whether we had contact; I was quite a lot on the inside kerb and tried to make the corner, which I didn't do it tight enough. And then I only saw in the mirrors what happened, which is never what you want between two cars of the same team."

He continued; "Then for the crash itself, I went on throttle [and] on the first lap it felt kind of weird: I had to go back off and on throttle.

"On that second lap, I tried to do the same thing, but I don't know, it just felt a little bit weird. We'll look into it."

More from race winner Kimi Antonelli: "It is a dream coming true and what an incredible day, I couldn't do it without my team, my family and everyone who supports me. Still a few races to go, try to keep our head down but now we are going to enjoy today."

Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli who wins his home race in Italy, from 19th: "I did not expect it. Unbelievable, unbelievable. I am so happy, I could not have imagined to be here today but we managed to pull it off and I am really, really happy.

"It was quite scary, there in the moment [getting onto the gravel] because the tarmac was breaking up but I still thought I could do the corner but once I went over a bit of gravel as well I went straight. I was like maybe I lost my chance but luckily we had the pace and I could bring it home.

"After the second re-start, I was up there and I knew I could have had a shot for the win so definitely I believed in it, especially when I was behind George but it was difficult to breakaway with it all being so strong. At the end we pitted he stayed out and he struggled with his tyres at the end, with fresher tyres we could increase the pace and get the winner."

Mercedes' George Russell speaking after finishing P2 at the Italian GP: "Huge congrats to Kimi, incredible result for him. When I looked at the leaderboard at the beginning he was P4, P5, so I knew he was going to be in the mix. It was looking like a pretty strong race from us and then I was just struggling on the tyres towards the end, obviously we did the whole race on that one hard tyre. I'll take it. It's been more positive than it was pre-summer break and that's what I needed to try and achieve but of course I would have loved to have been P1."

On not stopping during the VSC: "To be honest, I thought we were both going to stay out. I was surprised to see him pitting. In the end it was a roll of the dice both ways. In the moment, the team wouldn't have known which strategy was better, made sense to split the car. In the end Kimi had great pace."

Red Bull's Max Verstappen who finished the Italian Grand Prix in third: "There was some good battles out there. I had to send it many times around the outside because we were just struggling a lot with deployment from Turns two to four, compared to our competitors.

"In general, the top speed was not our friend today so yeah just trying to hang in there but they were just a bit too fast. I was trying to be in the overtake mode but at one point I lost that and tried to do my own race. I had one tricky moment in Turn Two because the tarmac was opening up so I almost just went off because I picked up gravel from the tarmac and then I had the McLarens in my overtake mode. It makes quite a difference around here, once I cleared them, happy to be on P3 and to be on the podium."

To put some perspective on Kimi Antonelli's win.

It is the second furthest back a driver has ever come from to win a grand prix after John Watson's victory from 22nd on the grid in the 1983 United States Grand Prix West.

Not a bad showing for the 20-year-old.

This isn't the most glamorous shot of Monza, apologies. But I opened and hung out one of the windows so I could hear the crowd at the end of the race - and they were delighted with Kimi Antonelli's victory.

The 20-year-old is the first Italian to win this grand prix in six decades, and who would now bet against him securing Italy's first drivers' championship in 73 years at the end of the season?
