We've witnessed something special today, folks. A comeback for the ages.

Antonelli's title charge looks like it's full steam ahead. Whereas George Russell's faltered, much like his tyres at the end of that race.

Next week, the F1 behemoth continues on to Madrid, with the first-ever Grand Prix at the Madring.

Will the title battle take another turn? Or will Antonelli strengthen his grip on the trophy?

McLaren's Lando Norris speaking to Sky Sports about the battle with teammate Oscar Piastri: "When you're in the car things happen very quickly, I went to the left and he went to the right very quickly but I don't think he did anything wrong, just good racing and enjoyable. To come out with a P4 today was a good job so I'm satisfied.

"Qualifying's not good enough and clearly Mercedes are in a league of their own compared to the rest of us. We suffer with our straight line speed whenever we got to the front of the pack. I don't think anything's new. We knew what was good and what was bad, it's just can we improve on them for the rest of the year, that's going to be the big challenge. We know we still have some strengths. I want to go to a higher speed track again, we can be strong. This weekend was a highlight that even though we've won two races, we're nowhere near good enough and we need to do better as a team. But I'm still very confident that we can push through as a team."

Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton who finished the Italian Grand Prix in sixth, speaking to Sky Sports: "We haven't done a de-brief yet. It is one of the harder ones to swallow today, definitely. I was hoping for more.

"I gave it absolutely everything, we just didn't have the speed on the straights. I was just mostly a sitting duck to those guys around me and up ahead.

"But we will look internally and try and figure out what we could have done better.

"I felt like we probably should have been on the hard tyre but we also had to be overtaking people because we were further back than we were supposed to be. And then I thought they were going to stop us but they didn't stop us so I just run out of tyres."

On whether Ferrari should have given him priority for championship position over Charles Leclerc and if that would have avoided contact during the race: "It's too far past that already, too late for that now and I lost a lot of points to those guys and they are just ahead. We will do our best to keep pushing the rest of the season. But they [Mercedes] are out and out ahead of us."

Alpine's Pierre Gasly speaking to Sky Sports after finishing P7: "We've got to be pleased with the whole weekend. Obviously it was a magical qualifying, everyone was buzzing and we were all dreaming of what could happen, what we could do but I think in the end we've got to be pleased. We were fighting with Lando for a few laps who won the last two races. We finished three seconds behind Lewis who has been up there all season, and 18 seconds clear of the car behind us. Overall a big step forward, I wish it could have been slightly more than P7 but we've got to take the learnings from this weekend and hopefully we can keep improving."

On if the team can recreate yesterday's qualifying: "That's the goal. We've got to understand the steps forward from the weekend, obviously Monza is quite unique but definitely the car felt a lot more together this weekend. Hopefully we can repeat it. There's been a lot of happy faces in the garage over the weekend and very proud of all the guys. Wev'e just got to keep going and close the gap with the top teams."

Red Bull's Max Verstappen speaking to Sky Sports after finishing P3 at the Italian GP: "The starts were not very good, I had to then send it in places because we were so slow on the straight, in deployment compared to the Mercedes powered cars. But for us to be on the podium, I think is a very strong result. Mercedes was clearly too strong and for us to be behind them here also after a difficult weekend in Zandvoort is very positive for us."

Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton on the team radio during the cool down lap after the race: "That one hurts. That one definitely hurts. Thank you to everyone. To the tifosi, thank you for giving us your love, sorry we couldn't give you the result you wanted."

More from George Russell after his P2 at the Italian Grand Prix: "We are where we are. He has driven incredibly this season. He deserves to lead the championship and he has a healthy lead.

"I'm not even going to think about the fight or the comeback. I'm just going to every race trying to win it.

"I'm not putting any pressure on myself in this regard. I just need to try and win more races.

"He is in the best spot and he deserves to be where he is."

Charles Leclerc speaking to Sky Sports after his crash: "Went on on power, didn't feel like the car was quite alright. I went off and went again, there was quite a bit of power then and lost the car. I've got to look at the data and I haven't checked it yet. For the start, not much to say. Lewis tried to overtake, there wasn't much space and then I tried to make Turn 2 as tight as I possibly could."

George Russell, who finished in second place and lost more ground to Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli in the drivers' championship told Sky Sports: "Huge congrats to Kimi. On the face of it, starting where he did and finishing with the win is incredibly impressive.

"When I saw he was P5 after the first couple of laps, I knew he was in the fight.

"In hindsight it's easy to say I should have pitted rather than stayed out. I felt like I was holding my own at that point but I think that's partly why the team wanted us to split strategies.

"I'm disappointed with missing out on the win but here we are."

Mercedes' boss Toto Wolff speaking to Sky Sports: "Unbelievable, he was so controlled all race. Kept his head down, took no risk at the beginning with the re-start and then one by one, one by one [picked off the drivers]. An amazing drive.

"It was after all, the two-stop was the best but we didn't think it was the case. So that was good for him actually. But today there was nothing that would have stopped him. I am really happy.

"Obviously George fought. I'm really happy with the one-two. Yeah it is great.

"[George] was on the hard and we needed to go on a one stop. There was no chance."

More from race winner Kimi Antonelli who was speaking to Sky Sports: "I woke up this morning and I felt very good mentally. I thought that a very good result would have been a podium for me today and then after the red flag I was already P12 after another start, after a couple laps I was already in the top five and I knew I could have a shot at the win. Of course it was very difficult to break away but obviously we managed to pull it off and bring it home.

"I take it race by race because you never know what can happen. Today went well, we had a massive opportunity and we took it. Next week we have Madrid and it's going to be a new challenge. We will have to be on top of the game because it's a new track for everyone. It's going to be important to be on point in order to maximise the track time. I'm going to enjoy this moment and then focus on the next one and then the next one for the rest of the season."

Charles Leclerc was left heartbroken after his early crash out of Ferrari's home Italian Grand Prix, and the Monegasque has speaking to the media about what happened today at Monza.

On his scrap with team-mate Lewis Hamilton, Leclerc said: "With Lewis, it was way too close into Turn One. And unfortunately in Turn Two, I don't know whether we had contact; I was quite a lot on the inside kerb and tried to make the corner, which I didn't do it tight enough. And then I only saw in the mirrors what happened, which is never what you want between two cars of the same team."

He continued; "Then for the crash itself, I went on throttle [and] on the first lap it felt kind of weird: I had to go back off and on throttle.

"On that second lap, I tried to do the same thing, but I don't know, it just felt a little bit weird. We'll look into it."

More from race winner Kimi Antonelli: "It is a dream coming true and what an incredible day, I couldn't do it without my team, my family and everyone who supports me. Still a few races to go, try to keep our head down but now we are going to enjoy today."

Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli who wins his home race in Italy, from 19th: "I did not expect it. Unbelievable, unbelievable. I am so happy, I could not have imagined to be here today but we managed to pull it off and I am really, really happy.

"It was quite scary, there in the moment [getting onto the gravel] because the tarmac was breaking up but I still thought I could do the corner but once I went over a bit of gravel as well I went straight. I was like maybe I lost my chance but luckily we had the pace and I could bring it home.

"After the second re-start, I was up there and I knew I could have had a shot for the win so definitely I believed in it, especially when I was behind George but it was difficult to break away with it all being so strong. At the end we pitted, he stayed out and he struggled with his tyres at the end, with fresher tyres we could increase the pace and get the win."

Mercedes' George Russell speaking after finishing P2 at the Italian GP: "Huge congrats to Kimi, incredible result for him. When I looked at the leaderboard at the beginning he was P4, P5, so I knew he was going to be in the mix. It was looking like a pretty strong race from us and then I was just struggling on the tyres towards the end, obviously we did the whole race on that one hard tyre. I'll take it. It's been more positive than it was pre-summer break and that's what I needed to try and achieve but of course I would have loved to have been P1."

On not stopping during the VSC: "To be honest, I thought we were both going to stay out. I was surprised to see him pitting. In the end it was a roll of the dice both ways. In the moment, the team wouldn't have known which strategy was better, made sense to split the car. In the end Kimi had great pace."

Red Bull's Max Verstappen who finished the Italian Grand Prix in third: "There was some good battles out there. I had to send it many times around the outside because we were just struggling a lot with deployment from Turns two to four, compared to our competitors.

"In general, the top speed was not our friend today so yeah just trying to hang in there but they were just a bit too fast. I was trying to be in the overtake mode but at one point I lost that and tried to do my own race. I had one tricky moment in Turn Two because the tarmac was opening up so I almost just went off because I picked up gravel from the tarmac and then I had the McLarens in my overtake mode. It makes quite a difference around here, once I cleared them, happy to be on P3 and to be on the podium."

To put some perspective on Kimi Antonelli's win.

It is the second furthest back a driver has ever come from to win a grand prix after John Watson's victory from 22nd on the grid in the 1983 United States Grand Prix West.

Not a bad showing for the 20-year-old.
