Eva Olid confirmed at this morning's press conference that Manchester United are not expecting to do any business today.

She did say they have plans in place for moves in January.

On new signing Rebeca Bernal's availability against London City Lionesses, she added: "Yes, she’s available. Today, she will have her first training session.

"She was working with a Spanish coach to help her adapt quickly to how we want to play."

The opening game of the 2026-27 Women's Super League season could see two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas make her London City Lionesses debut when they host Manchester United on Friday (19:00 BST).

The WSL action will continue the following day as eight-time champions Chelsea take on Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Saturday (12:30 BST), live on BBC One.

On the season's first Sunday, defending champions Manchester City begin their campaign at home against promoted Birmingham City while Tottenham host West Ham United.

Charlton Athletic and Crystal Palace, also promoted from the WSL 2 as the English top flight expands to 14 teams, will host Liverpool and Everton respectively.

Title hopefuls Arsenal return to Brighton where a 1-1 draw in May ensured Manchester City won the WSL title.

We're still not ruling out any action at Chelsea but as the day goes on, we're yet to hear whispers of any movement.

As it stands, there is nothing expected to happen but they have been known to do late deals and there are areas they want some cover in.

London City Lionesses will finish in the bottom half of the table.

Despite spending big and signing two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas on a three-year deal, London City will fail to gel as a team and will struggle to beat their sixth-placed finish from last season.

Aggie Beever-Jones will score more goals than Alessia Russo.

With Sam Kerr gone, the stage is set for Chelsea's Beever-Jones to be the leading lady in the west end of London.

There's a World Cup next summer too, and the 23-year-old needs a big campaign to establish herself in Sarina Wiegman's starting XI.

Outscoring Russo would certainly catch the eye. They'll both have good seasons, but Arsenal will spread the goals around more.

Alexia Putellas will struggle to adapt to life in the WSL after her blockbuster move to London City.

While she won't have Champions League games and the associated travel to worry about, the competitiveness and physicality of the WSL could be a challenge for her after spending her entire career in Liga F.

West Ham will be considerably better than last season and Aston Villa could be bottom of the table at Christmas.

Rita Guarino has more players that fit her style and you could see progress from West Ham at the end of the season. Villa’s fixtures schedule at the start of the season is unkind and I don’t think their squad has enough quality in depth.
