Nice to see Coventry back in the Premier League, although I can't see them faring well against Arsenal and Gyokeres will haunt his former club. But hopefully they will do a Sunderland and beat the odds to stay up.

  4. 'There will be more arrivals'published at 16:00 BST 21 August

Ipswich v Sunderland (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Ipswich Town

A final word from Ipswich town boss Gary O'Neil on how many players he expects to come in before the end of the transfer window: "There will be some more arrivals if everything goes to plan. We're working hard, myself and all the guys behind ownership, Mark [Ashton] and the recruitment team. So much work has gone into attracting the calibre of player to this challenge, and that will continue over the next few days."

  5. Matusiwa and Taylor not available - team newspublished at 15:59 BST 21 August

Ipswich v Sunderland (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Ipswich Town

Ipswich boss Gary O'Neil on how the squad is shaping up: "Good, everyone is in a good place. We should have everyone available apart from a couple of late checks. We're in a good place and other than a couple I anticipate us to be at full strength.

"Azor Matusiwa and Jack Taylor will be the only two exceptions to that. They won’t be available but I think the rest of the guys will be okay.

"I’m really pleased with where we’re at and what we’ve managed to build, but I do expect us to be even stronger again in two to three weeks with those players coming back from injury and the close of the transfer window."

  6. Really excited to get going - O'Neilpublished at 15:58 BST 21 August

Ipswich v Sunderland (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Ipswich Town

Gary O'Neil on the mood in the camp following Ipswich Town's promotion back to the Premier League: "Excitement. Everybody inside the playing group, inside the training ground, around the town, everyone I bump into is just really excited to get going.

"Obviously, it has been a big summer, an awful lot of work has been done on the pitch, in the transfer market, everywhere.

"One big effort from everyone inside Ipswich and that's how it will continue throughout the season.

"I've seen too much spirit and fight and togetherness from everybody inside and outside of the football club to think that this is going to be anything but a really successful campaign where we have a right go at it and see what we can do."

  8. 'The team has come along pretty nicely from last season'published at 15:54 BST 21 August

Brentford v Tottenham (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Brentford

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews on the approach for the match against Spurs:

"It’s always the balance really of us and them and what we do won’t drastically change game to game. There’ll be tweaks obviously to try and give us the advantage in certain areas, whether that’s what we do with the ball or what we do without it. In regards to Spurs, a very, very good coach.

"Very experienced coach who kept them up, who has added significantly in the window. It’s a very different team of course but a lot of the individuals that they’ve signed are very familiar to us from what they’ve done at their respective clubs they’ve come from. So, yeah we have an idea of what they’ll do. They’ll have their own plan of course which we’ll need to adapt to."

On whether Brentford's 7-0 win v Frankfurt in pre-season helps their perspective:

“Not so much just that performance, I think in general, the steps we’ve taken as a group throughout pre-season. I’ve been pretty content with fine tuning as we’ve gone. Naturally we’ve got fitter and sharper as the weeks have passed.

"The personality has come to the fore more in terms of the ability to be able to do it for longer within games and the cohesion of the team, I think has come along pretty nicely from where we left off last season.”

  9. 'Easy decision' to sign Sangarepublished at 15:46 BST 21 August

Brentford v Tottenham (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Brentford

More from Keith Andrews on whether he plans to offer debuts to summer signings against Spurs on Saturday:

"I’d anticipate some. We’ve obviously got four players in from other clubs. We’re really happy with the business we’ve done, really happy with the impact they’ve made both on the pitch and off the pitch in the period of pre-season and how they’ve grown and developed. I have no doubt that you’ll see some of them tomorrow."

On record signing Mamadou Sangare: "Pretty easy decision. He’s a very talented midfielder who can do lots of aspects of that role. That’s on the football side of things. Having met him it was an even easier decision. He’s a very focused, very determined, very ambitious young man, very humble but equally as hungry to achieve really impressive things in his career. He’s certainly a player on an upwards trajectory."

On if he's happy with the transfer window so far: "I’m really happy. The squad is in a good place. We knew where we were last season. We knew we were keen to add in certain areas. We got some of that pretty early. Jannik [Schuster] is a young centre back, done really well at Salzburg. Two Premier League ready players with a lot of experience with Callum [Wilson] and Jaidon Anthony and obviously you’ve already touched on Mamadou [Sangare]. So yeah, we’re really content with the business we’ve done."

Imagine a world where Arsenal won the league and then had to sell Raya, Rice, Saliba, Saka, and Gyokeres. This is basically Villa after winning the Europa League. Genuinely, someone tell me what is the point of following a team that isn't in the top six? You're basically doomed.

  11. 'There's a lot of pigeonholing goes on in the game'published at 15:38 BST 21 August

Brentford v Tottenham (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Brentford

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews on record signing Mamadou Sangare's best position:

“There’s a lot of pigeonholing that goes on in the game. His attributes, we’ve seen it closely. What he was able to do at Lens in different positions, in different systems - he's an all-round midfielder for me."

On Keane Lewis-Potter's versatility: “He’s played [at left-back] in pre-season to develop him a little bit more. We’ve got really good players in that position. Keane Lewis-Potter plays in a different way. There’s versatility to his game. Do I see him only playing there? Probably not, no.”

  12. Brentford team news - Van den Berg, Milambo, Carvahlo, Furopublished at 15:32 BST 21 August

Brentford v Tottenham (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Brentford

Brentford manager Keith Andrews started his news conference with confirmation that Netherlands defender Sepp van den Berg will miss the first few weeks of the season because of a groin abductor issue.

    Here's some more team news.

On Antoni Milambo's fitness, Andrews said: "He's been training with the group now for a number of weeks. Sometimes it's modified, sometimes it's full training. Today, as an example, he's had a really hard training session. He's making really good strides."

On Fabio Carvahlo: “Great to have him back. He looks really sharp, smooth, the way he's moving. He looks confident.”

When asked why Kaye Furo didn't feature for the B team last week: "He was due to play because we wanted to top up some of the younger players and players that needed the minutes. He just picked up a slight knock that ruled him out for two to three days. We didn't feel it was worth the risk.”

  14. Norgaard, Garner and Iroegbunam all ruled outpublished at 15:21 BST 21 August

Everton v Crystal Palace (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Everton

Everton boss David Moyes also provided an injury update: "It is going to be a difficult opening period for us. We don't have Christian Norgaard fit yet, James Garner is returning from a hernia operation, Tim Iroegbunam has picked up an adductor strain so he won't be available either.

"I've just got to hope that what we have got is enough to get us by at the moment."

On the importance of a strong start to the season: "It is hugely important. We started last season with no great ambition that we could really get into Europe but, after the first three or four games, I was sat here talking about us having the chance to get there, even though it was really out of our reach at the start of the season.

"It was good to talk the positive game in the end, though, because we did run it really close last season."

  15. 'While Tarkowski is on the pitch, he will be our captain'published at 15:12 BST 21 August

Everton v Crystal Palace (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Everton

Everton boss David Moyes on choosing James Tarkowski to succeed Seamus Coleman as club captain: "He was captain all of last year really, so he didn't have much competition. Seamus Coleman was a great captain, but for most of last season it was an off-field role for him. James Tarkowski is the one who has taken it on. He will have to play well though because he has competition at centre-back but, while he is on the pitch, he will be our captain."

  17. Watkins dilemma & Martinez stance adds pressure on Emerypublished at 15:02 BST 21 August

Brighton v Aston Villa (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Unai Emery admitted the fact that Ollie Watkins could leave Aston Villa before the end of the transfer window adds further uncertainty to the club's summer of upheaval.

Al-Hilal want the England striker, who turns 31 in December, and have had bids rejected.

Ezri Konsa's £51m move to Arsenal is poised to be rubber stamped while Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans and Lucas Digne have already left.

Villa must also find a solution for Emi Martinez, with the goalkeeper eager to leave after seeing his move to Juventus collapse.

It leaves the pressure on Emery, who has already signed Martinez's replacement Zion Suzuki for £30m from Parma, to continue finding the answers amid the changes.

Watkins leaving, though, would represent a huge emotional departure from Villa with the striker playing a huge role in their rise after joining from Brentford in 2020.

Along with captain John McGinn and Konsa, Watkins - who has become an England international at Villa - has epitomised Villa's rise in the last few years, especially under Emery.

  18. 'We have two excellent goalkeepers' with Martinez and Suzukipublished at 14:58 BST 21 August

Brighton v Aston Villa (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery on goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez's future after the club signed Japan stopper Zion Suzuki from Parma:

"We can share both. This scenario is not a bad scenario at the beginning. We have two excellent goalkeepers. Of course, we signed Suzuki thinking not for the future [but for] now, because I think he showed his capacity to show his performance in our level. He will need to adapt to us but more of less he's playing this level.

"And Emiliano Martinez transmitted to us the possibility to have another challenge in his career. Not now, even last year he was as well thinking in case he can't have one possibility to change for his challenges and he didn't do [it] last year and he performed fantastic with us.

"This year he transmitted again the possibility to have another challenge and we decided to sign Suzuki because I think he's a fantastic goalkeeper.

"Now my ideal scenario with the goalkeepers is really fantastic. Of course, maybe we can change something."

  19. 'Tomorrow I will see which players are ready for Sunday'published at 14:57 BST 21 August

Brighton v Aston Villa (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery on the latest team news...or lack of it:

"Tomorrow we are going to train and tomorrow I am going to decide with the players we have because maybe even we can change something today or tomorrow.

"I don't know now. Tomorrow I will see if they are ready or not to play on Sunday."

  20. Facing Brighton is 'always difficult'published at 14:56 BST 21 August

Brighton v Aston Villa (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery on facing Brighton on Sunday:

"Brighton is a team that has been so, so consistent. They are playing as well in Europe and it's a good achievement for them last year.

"The coach [Fabian Hurzeler] is a young coach but he has experience in Germany and now here in England. He knows us and they as well have some young players playing in a good performance and we have four years playing against Brighton and in my experience it's difficult always and it's been a first match away and we must be ready for everything.

"We must be focused 100% and work the match 90 minutes like we were doing the last years.

"And this is the first target on Sunday, compete and try to get our best in 90 minutes for those three points."
