Jack: Is picking James Trafford a good idea?
Heisenberg: I prefer the likes of Kinsky and Verbruggen, who are both £0.5m cheaper and arguably play for teams more likely to get clean sheets.

Chris: Who do you think will be the cheaper, surprise players, in the league?
Heisenberg: Pascal Gross and Iliman Ndiaye are good value and both could be on penalties too. I like Sangare at Brentford, too.

Sam: How do you rate Kerkez for gameweek one? He is playing under a new manager he has worked with before, but he struggled last season.
Heisenberg: Not interested personally, will wait and see on the Liverpool defence myself.

Richard: Is Andy Robertson flying under the radar as a differential pick?
Heisenberg: Possibly. As I have Kinsky, I'm not considering any other Spurs defenders. Both Kinsky and Robertson are nice cheap routes into an improved Spurs defence, but I think you only need one.

Akhmed: I am keen to use my bench boost in the first few weeks of the season, this feels like the right call with more player availability and fixtures?
Heisenberg: Yeah absolutely, I'm using mine in gameweek one.

Andrew: How big of a risk is leaving Haaland out of your squad early on?
Heisenberg: It's a huge risk. If he does well then will be hard to keep up, especially as many will captain him. But, on the flip side, if he starts quiet then you will be laughing. Especially as the money saved should give you a better overall squad than most. I'll be sticking with Haaland myself. He plays newly promoted sides in gameweeks three and seven so I definitely want him for those.

Callum: Is it worth going against the template and not captaining Haaland this week? I can't believe I'm saying that in gameweek 1, but I've been left behind too many times in previous seasons. Players like Pedro and Bruno have had more of a pre-season.
Heisenberg: Yeah, you can do for the reasons you mentioned. Bruno, Haaland and Pedro are all solid captain picks this week. I'm backing Haaland at home as he's always good in gameweek one but he absolutely could be outscored by the two you mentioned.

Christopher: Are people sleeping on Petrovic as a 4.5m GK? Why are people choosing Kinsky or Verbruggen over him?
Heisenberg: The opening six fixtures are tough for Bournemouth. I plan on wildcarding early so that's why I prefer Kinsky and Verbruggen. Gameweek seven onward looks like a good time to get Petrovic.

Macca: Hi Heisenberg, I guess we're all looking for that gem who can shine at a low price. Who do you think would be a great addition to my team that is perhaps currently under the radar? Thanks, and good luck to everyone for the new season.
Heisenberg: Pascal Gross and Iliman Ndiaye are good value and could shine. Both are in my team.

Jonathan: Do you think Gabriel is still a good pick?
Heisenberg: He is a great pick. But he takes up so much money that choosing him means sacrifices elsewhere. So I'm compromising by selecting Calafiori to save £2.5m, so the rest of my team doesn't suffer.

Nick: How frequently do you change your captain. Is it week to week, or do you tend to pick a captain and stick with them for the season? Thanks!
Heisenberg: I reassess every gameweek and make my decision accordingly (based on fixtures, form etc). Gameweek one I'm going Haaland, but was a close call between him and Bruno Fernandes. Gameweek two, I'll reassess based on all information but as things stand it'll likely be Fernandes due to the easier fixture.

Lewis: Who are the best options from the newly promoted teams that other people will have overlooked?
Heisenberg: I have Leif Davis as my £4m defender. I'm not expecting too much but he has some attacking threat as he's proven in pre-season. I wouldn't be targeting too many players from newly promoted sides straight away, let's see how they adapt to the Premier League first.

Glenn: Does Zion Suzuki look like a differential? Is he likely to start this week or be eased in by Emery?
Heisenberg: I personally prefer the likes of Kinsky and Verbruggen who are both £0.5m cheaper. Aston Villa have lost so many of their best players which puts me off Villa players.

The first gameweek of the FPL season is always a difficult one to approach, and this season is no different.
It feels as though it has been a summer of huge transition in the Premier League, with Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea all beginning the new season with new managers in charge.
In addition, there are new signings, newly promoted teams and some players who are slightly behind schedule due to the World Cup.
It means the early weeks of the season are often about seeing how the land lies and which players and teams are likely to be worth investing in.
Remember, FPL is a marathon, not a sprint. If the first few weeks bring a few surprises, don't worry. There are still many months to go!
