Dazz: Newcastle's recruitment has been superb. I'm not at all worried about the loss of Kieran Trippier, Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes. My only concern is the lack of depth at left-back and centre-back, especially as Fabian Schar is very injury prone now. I hope we don't have a defensive injury crisis this season. But the rest of the team gives me nothing to worry about!

Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle was only half-joking when he said he had not been involved in a kick-off this early since his days a young footballer.

Today feels like a very early test of this new era at St James' Park against Bournemouth, who have long been Newcastle's bogey side.

No wonder Newcastle are offering heavily discounted drinks to supporters who arrive early today in a bid to boost the atmosphere further.

“When we’ve done well, our home form has been our bread and butter, when teams fear coming to Newcastle,” injured captain Dan Burn writes in his programme notes.

Bournemouth, though, will travel with quiet belief.

The visitors have not lost a Premier League game against Newcastle since 2020.

In contrast to the frenzy of bids, talks, "advanced talks", deal sheets and multiple £100m-plus transfers (plus add-ons, of course), Bournemouth was an oasis of calm on deadline day, with no incomings or outgoings.

Cherries fans will breathe a sigh of relief, and accept that the club's hierarchy were true to their word, in that none of their superstars - especially Alex Scott, Eli Junior Kroupi and Rayan - were sold, despite the noise on social media that would have had you believe that all three were as good as signed, sealed and delivered to "big six" clubs.

Scott even mimed putting a telephone down while celebrating his goal against Everton on Saturday. Though he remains under contract at Vitality Stadium for another two seasons, the speculation will return in future windows if he continues to show the form which has brought him a whisker away from an England cap.

Bournemouth

Was keeping Alex Scott, who was subject of a £64m bid from Chelsea in the summer, Bournemouth's best bit of business this summer?

Not long before Thomas Tuchel names his first England squad since the World Cup. The Three Lions have four Nations League games between 26 September and 6 October, including world champions Spain at Wembley.

Will Newcastle's Lewis Hall and Bournemouth's Alex Scott be involved after missing out in the summer?

Left-back Hall, 21, was excellent in his side's 2-0 win at Tottenham last week, while former Guernsey midfielder Scott, 23, scored against Everton last weekend.

Hall has four caps but has not featured for England since March.

Tractor Trev: Fair play to Liverpool, they were outstanding going forward in the first 20 minutes and scored two great goals. We grew into the game and worked extremely hard, albeit without managing to convert. Liverpool certainly knew they were in a game, at least after Isak had calmed down! I believe this team is certainly capable of survival and maybe even mid-table.

Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle on facing Bournemouth today:

"It will be the same idea of how we want to play football. This is independent of the opponent, we have a clear way, clear identity and I hope atmosphere will be the same, [just as] emotional, the same energy, definitely, even though the kick-off is a bit earlier, so I also need to adapt to that."

When asked about the transfer window:

"I'm happy. Great job from Ross [Wilson] and his team, really clear idea on all the signings, a young squad in general. Young with huge potential. It's a brave way, but the way we want to go in Newcastle. We are fully committed to working with the lads."

The Premier League weekend is up and running - and so is Liverpool's season. Alexander Isak scored both goals in a 2-0 win at Ipswich to earn Andoni Iraola his first top-flight win as Reds boss.

Liverpool fans will be relieved Cody Gakpo's proposed £80m move to Manchester City collapsed before the deadline. Gakpo's assists for were as good as Isak's goals.

The German has gone with the same team which defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 last week.

New signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo is named on the bench following his £51.4m move from Lille.
