Chukwueze swings in a cross for Milan but Heaven clears.

The ex-Fulham winger is in a position some of United's players under Amorim became familiar with in having to get used to being a wing-back.

Yunus Musah decided to get involved in a wrestling match with Harry Maguire at that corner.

The referee stepped in once to warn both players to stop. Musah tried his luck again as Bruno Fernandes swung the corner in.

Maguire simply shoved Musah out of the way and was unmarked as he headed home from six yards.

United had been made to wait to take that corner because the referee spotted pushing and shoving in there. Harry Maguire was involved. But there was no issues as he found room to nod in.

David Beckham is synonymous with Manchester United.

It is the club he joined as a youngster and emerged into the first team as part of the famed ‘Class of 92’, going on to win the Treble in 1999.

However, despite his 394 United appearances and 85 goals, he did play elsewhere.

AC Milan was one of Beckham’s ‘other’ clubs.

He had two loan spells with Milan in 2009 and 2010. He was playing for the Rossoneri when he famously picked up a green and gold scarf and put it round his neck after a Champions League game at Old Trafford that was taken to be a sign of support for the anti-Glazer section of the United fan base, which, if anything, has grown in recent years.

He is clearly fondly remembered at both clubs.

There is a suggestion kick-off might be delayed slightly as AC Milan were late arriving.

Both teams are off the pitch after their warm-ups, so if it delayed it will only be slightly.

Game six out of six in Manchester United’s pre-season.

This time next week, head coach Michael Carrick will be analysing his side’s opening Premier League game at newly promoted Hull.

For now, it is about getting the right minutes into the right players.

Results are very much secondary, but so far, it is two wins, two draws – one of which turned into a win against Leeds at Croke Park – and a solitary defeat, on World Cup final eve, against Wrexham in Helsinki.

It is a quirk of fate that brings Ruben Amorim face-to-face with the club he had such a tempestuous 14 months at until he was sacked in January.

I noticed in the aftermath of the 3-0 defeat by Chelsea in Jakarta last week, some Milan fans were asking why Amorim was using a 3-2-4-1 formation that doesn’t suit his squad.

Many Manchester United fans wondered that too.

I hope it ends better for Amorim in Italy than it did in England.

  19. Rashford's returnpublished at 15:31 BST

The big news for Manchester United does not concern a starter.

Marcus Rashford is named on the bench for what is expected to be his first appearance for the club since December 2024.

There has been a debate about what number he would wear, amid speculation he was going to wear the number 14 shirt.

As it turns out, TODAY, he will wear the number nine vacated by Rasmus Hojlund.

However, club officials are stressing it is not confirmed that will be his number in the Premier League.

The other interesting bits of news are Bruno Fernandes and Youri Tielemans making their first pre-season starts. Tielemans will partner Andrey Santos in midfield for the first time. Matheus Cunha replaces Bryan Mbeumo in attack.

Man Utd XI: Lammens, Mazraoui, Maguire, Heaven, Shaw, Santos, Tielemans, Amad, Fernandes, Dorgu, Cunha. Substitutes: Heath, Mee, Amass, Dalot, Martinez, Yoro, Collyer, J Fletcher, T Fletcher, Mainoo, Gabriel, Lacey, Mbeumo, Rashford, Zirkzee.
