  1. Postpublished at 47 mins

    New Zealand 1-0 Egypt

Another well-worked free-kick from Egypt after a foul on the left of the box but Omar Marmoush can only fire well past the left upright with Max Crocombe unbothered.

  2. Postpublished at 47 mins

    New Zealand 1-0 Egypt

Just a glimpse of goal for Mohamed Salah as he latches on to a cross from the right in the opening seconds of the half.

His first touch brings it under his spell in the box but his second is on the stretch and can only divert straight at keeper Max Crocombe.

Egypt starting fast after the interval.

How immense has Finn Surman been in the last game and a half? He was great against Iran, and has carried that on here. Surely a lot of scouts will be sitting up and taking notice here.

He plays just down the road for the Portland Timbers of the MLS, Stu. Their phone might be off tonight.

You'd be hard pressed to rack up as many miles as the All Whites are, Preetesh.

I said he'd been putting himself about earlier, and here's the proof.

Chris Wood is the New Zealand target man, but he has been everywhere. You can see how much he loves playing for his country.

He's also had five more touches in the first half than Omar Marmoush.

  7. 'Very well organised'published at 02:58 BST

    HT: New Zealand 1-0 Egypt

    Isaac Fanin
    BBC Sports journalist

I was in LA for New Zealand's opener against Iran and they were excellent. They have been brilliant again here in Vancouver.

They may be the lowest ranked team at the World Cup, but so far in their two matches here, they've not played like it. Darren Bazeley has his team very well organised and they've played through Egypt's press a few times.

  9. HT: 'Icing on the cake'published at 02:54 BST

    New Zealand 1-0 Egypt

    Gabriel Zakuani

Yeah I think the history is the icing on the cake but I think they just want to get up and running in this World Cup and that’s what they’ll be focusing on.

  10. HALF-TIMEpublished at 02:50 BST

    New Zealand 1-0 Egypt

What a half for New Zealand.

Finn Surman's thumping header from Tim Payne's corner has the world's 85th ranked team, the lowest in the World Cup, on the verge of their first win at the eighth attempt and with one foot in the knockout stages.

Egypt have to come up with something different, otherwise they will be nine games without ever recording a World Cup win - no side has gone more.

  11. CLOSE!published at 45+2 mins

    New Zealand 1-0 Egypt

    Big chance goes begging.

Mostafa Zico whips in an inviting cross from the right of the box which sneaks past the diving Finn Surman who does just enough to put off Emam Ashour who slashes a volley on the stretch well wide of the far post.

  12. INJURY TIMEpublished at 45+1 min

    New Zealand 1-0 Egypt

Four added minutes at the end of a fun first half.

Shame it wasn't more to be honest...

  13. Postpublished at 45 mins

    New Zealand 1-0 Egypt

Another training ground routine but this time it's telegraphed by the All Whites and it's a waste from Egypt.

  14. Postpublished at 44 mins

    New Zealand 1-0 Egypt

Egypt have the chance to swing a ball into the New Zealand box but Omar Marmoush doesn't get quite enough on it and it's meat and drink for the big Kiwi defenders.

They'll have another chance, though, as Joe Bell concedes another free-kick on the left.

And here we go again. Egypt underestimating their opponents like they did in 2018.

    Tee, Cairo

New Zealand gave England a very good game in a friendly before the World Cup started. Egypt have work to do to pull this back.

  16. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 42 mins

    New Zealand 1-0 Egypt

Hamdy Fathi is indeed coming off, with Ramy Rabia coming on to replace him at the back.

Not ideal for Hossam Hassan as Egypt find themselves a goal behind and forced into a first-half reshuffle.

  17. Postpublished at 40 mins

    New Zealand 1-0 Egypt

Brief pause in play for some treatment for Egypt's Hamdy Fathi, who is not looking too clever here.

His face suggests his day is over.

  18. Postpublished at 39 mins

    New Zealand 1-0 Egypt

A delayed offside flag puts an end to a promising break by NZ, with Chris Wood holding the ball up manfully in the box and laying off to Sarpreet Singh when play was halted.

Wood has been putting himself about, and then some.

He goes up with keeper Mostafa Shobier under a high ball into the box but the keeper does just enough to gather at the second attempt.

  19. 'A safe one for the goalkeeper'published at 02:36 BST

    New Zealand 1-0 Egypt

    Gabriel Zakuani
Congolese former footballer on Radio 5 Live

Clearly one from the training ground, Salah tried to find a corner. A warning shot. A safe one for the goalkeeper who saw it going wide.

    One off the training ground.

It's touched back by Omar Marmoush into the path of Mohamed Salah who curls around the wall but also past the left upright.
