It wasn't perfect, and it certainly wasn't always pretty.

But crucially, Wales lead going into the second leg in Llanelli on Tuesday night.

The likes of Mared Griffiths and substitute Scarlett Hill were bright sparks in Shkoder, although Rhian Wilkinson will no doubt know her side need to improve, particularly in the next round of qualifying, should they make it.

Part one of the latest Albanian double header is done, so all that's left for us to say is thank you as always for joining us.

Do join us on Tuesday night as Wales look to book their place in the play-off final.

Nos da! Good night.

Sophie Ingle speaking on Match of the Day Wales:

"The second half was tough; they put a lot of pressure on us.

"The first half was quite comfortable, but it's always tough when you're only a goal up going into the second half.

"We panicked at times, but we dug deep and managed to keep a clean sheet away from home.

"We need a bit more calmness in possession on Tuesday night, and we need to kill their counter-attack because they've got a couple of fast forwards.

"If we have a bit more control going into the second half on Tuesday, we should dominate like we did today."

Wales take a narrow, one-goal lead into next week's second leg in Llanelli. You can watch the highlights here.

The girls have done a professional job, but individuals are showing weakness because they are not playing regularly for their clubs.

Albania made it a really competitive game; fair play to both sides. It was an open, close game that Wales just edged in the end.

Rhian Wilkinson speaking on BBC Match of the Day Wales:

"Firstly, I'd just like to thank our fans who travelled all the way here. It's incredible. I'm always blown away by our support.

"A win away from home. We stuck with it; we learn to win on hard days, and today, it wasn't our best, but we found a way to be away from home and get the win.

"I'm really excited for Scarlett Hill and Liv Francis, both having competitive debuts now. A big moment for them, and coming home with three points is great.

"We're halfway there, and we need to make sure we take care of our business at home, but equally, push our standards a bit.

"I didn't think we defended really well today, but we didn't quit. I've been in this job long enough to have seen that growth with this team.

"We're finding ways to stick in the game, and we've got to be happy with that now because we're away from home and in an environment where they made it really tough.

"I'm absolutely pleased that we managed to keep a clean sheet; we got the goal. Now it's time to rest and recover, and we'll go again on the 13th."

We definitely had to earn that result tonight.

When you look at the injury list, we've missed a lot of experience, and we really had to drag ourselves out of the trenches at times.

But we have the advantage ahead of the second leg, and we have got the job done tonight.

There is definitely a sense of relief. It is like this across Welsh sport in general; we always make it difficult for ourselves.

We've got the job done; we knew it was going to be difficult and scrappy, and our performance in the second half was not what we wanted.

But credit to Wales, they're halfway there. It was always going to be difficult away from home.

Albania will be the happier of the two teams going into the second leg in Llanelli, just from how they finished the game and the momentum they have.

Ultimately, all that matters is that scoreboard. Of course there's plenty to look at.

Albania will be buoyed by the fact that they were by far the better team in that second half, but this is a results business.

It was far from pretty, but Wales ultimately got the job done.

They take a 1-0 lead into Tuesday night's second leg in Llanelli and achieved their objective of keeping a clean sheet in Shkoder.

Stay tuned for all of the latest reaction.

Mared Griffiths is replaced by Olivia Francis who is handed her senior debut.

We're into the final minute in Shkoder, and the hosts look to get up the pitch.

But Jones does so well to win a throw-in high up the pitch, and Wales can see out the final stages, they would hope.

Sensible play from Cain to go backwards and help Wales retain possession.

She then lumps it upfield, and Hughes latches on to the ball.

The forward shoots, but it loops just over.

Wales have defended the set pieces well, but they just cannot get out of their own half.

Woodham concedes a corner this time.

Doci takes it for the home side, but Woodham clears.

Valenita Troka replaces Fortesa Berisha.

In comes the Albania corner, and Middleton-Patel gets away with a somewhat loose punch.

FIVE minutes are added on.

Mared Griffiths has been fantastic considering how young she is.

Scarlett Hill is another who looks like such an experienced player

Another attack breaks down as Griffiths can't quite pick out Joel.

Albania break this time, and Fortesa Berisha almost goes beyond Scarlett Hill, but the Wales defender recovers so well to win the challenge and concede a corner.

It's border line silly how complicated the World Cup qualification process is.

We want to see a clear path on how to get to Brazil next summer.

Wales take the free kick quickly, and Hughes tees up Cain who drills a shot wide.

Another chance goes begging.

Wales look to slow things down as Woodham takes her time with a throw-in.

But they're struggling to keep hold of possession, and it's giving Albania the chance to keep working their way up the pitch.

As I say that, Mared Griffiths does well to win a free kick around 15 yards inside the Albania half.
