Dango Ouattara scored twice as European hopefuls Brentford came from behind on two occasions to earn a point against Conference League finalists Crystal Palace.

Adam Wharton's first Palace goal looked set to earn Oliver Glasner's side all three points, but Ouattara headed home at the far post with two minutes remaining to salvage a share of the spoils for the Bees.

The visitors had failed to win any of their past five Premier League games, but they were gifted an opportunity to make the perfect start when Caoimhin Kelleher brought down Ismaila Sarr in the penalty area in just the second minute.

Referee Sam Barrott initially waved away Palace's appeals but awarded the penalty after being sent to the monitor, allowing Sarr to confidently stroke home his 21st goal of the season in all competitions.

Brentford were poor in the first half but restored parity when Jaydee Canvot's attempted headed clearance struck Ouattara in the face and ricocheted into the far corner - the Bees' only attempt on target in the first half.

The home side started the second period with renewed purpose, only to fall behind again when Wharton's low drive squirmed under Kelleher's body and into the net.

Ouattara was denied by Palace keeper Dean Henderson late on, but the winger's close-range header earned the Bees a point.

Keith Andrews' team remain in eighth - which would guarantee a place in next season's Uefa Conference League - while Palace drop to 15th.

Brentford analysis: Bees stumbling despite late leveller

Brentford remain firmly in contention to secure a place in continental competition for the first time in their history, but Andrews' side are stumbling towards the finishing line.

They have won only one of their past nine games - against struggling West Ham two weeks ago - and face a difficult trip to Anfield on the final day of the season.

The Bees will drop to ninth on Tuesday if Chelsea win their game in hand on their west London rivals - against struggling Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.

Having scored from their only attempt on target in the first half, Brentford looked on course for a limp defeat until a flurry of opportunities late in the match.

Keane Lewis-Potter curled a shot wide from the edge of the penalty area, while Henderson produced a fine stop to deny Ouattara - before being beaten by the Burkina Faso forward's header in the 88th minute.

Brentford could even have snatched all three points in stoppage time, but top scorer Igor Thiago blazed over the crossbar from close range before Sepp van den Berg headed off target following a corner.

Crystal Palace analysis: Injury woes for Glasner before final

'We do it for Crystal Palace, we do it for our fans' - Glasner

When Palace lost to Bournemouth a fortnight ago, manager Glasner likened the 3-0 defeat to a friend's birthday party taking place a few days before your wedding.

The "wedding" in that scenario was Palace's Conference League semi-final second leg against Shakhtar Donetsk, which Glasner's team won 2-1 to confirm their place in the final.

With Palace's focus now firmly on the showpiece against Rayo Vallecano in 10 days' time, Glasner made five changes to the side that lost to Manchester City in midweek - leaving the likes of Jean-Philippe Mateta, Chris Richards and Jefferson Lerma on the bench.

There were no colourful analogies on this occasion as Palace dominated for large spells, although Glasner will be disappointed not to have got the win his team deserved.

To make matters worse, the visitors suffered injuries to two centre-backs - Chadi Riad and Richards - late in the second half.

Richards had to be helped from the pitch after going down in second-half stoppage time, making him a doubt for next weekend's final-day game against Arsenal - and possibly the Conference League final in Leipzig.

What's next for these teams?

Brentford end the 2025-26 campaign against Liverpool at Anfield, while Palace welcome title-chasing Arsenal to Selhurst Park.

Both games kick off at 16:00 BST on Sunday, 24 May.
