Sometimes maybe the game will not be with these kind of margins to miss the chances we have. But I'm happy and proud of the team.

"We had some problems with players up front with injuries in pre-season. Hopefully we can start developing these players, bringing good game time.

"We are moving forward, we respect the identity, we were dominant and taking risks. This is the way we will try to play every game. It's about creating something strong and big."

Charlton goalscorer Jodie Hutton: "We were way better than last week, played some good football. Today we changed our tactics to be more aggressive, but the four goals we conceded were not good enough."

On her goal: "Everyone says to me just hit it, I did and just hoped for the best. We work in training on being composed in front of goal. People do say I tend to score flukes, but I don't think that was a fluke. It was a good finish and hopefully I can score more this season.

"If you take the scoreline out of it we played some good football. Last week against Everton we were unlucky to come away with a loss. We've got to keep our heads up.

"We know it's going to be a hard and long season, but the points will come."

I feel like Charlton did try and be more aggressive, getting that ball into the final third and creating more chances. They've got lots of positives to take from today.

For them, they aren't expected to be competing against the Manchester City's of the world, they should be focusing more on the newly promoted clubs, that's where they'll pick up their points.

"Today was better, I found more spaces but sometimes I know that the midfielders are watching where I am. I want to create spaces for my teammates because the main goal is to win.

On the WSL: "I'm enjoying the duels, competing, every game is so different here. I'm really enjoying, it's unpredictable. As a team, we just need to find the weaknesses to score and to win."

Charlton Athletic

Charlton Athletic manager Karen Hills: "We scored an unbelievable goal, then it was about holding on until half-time to give us a reset moment, but unfortunately it didn't happen. That third goal was a sucker punch for us.

"The message at half-time was to go out and keep doing what we were doing.

"I thought today we were excellent in terms of pressing and the way we competed with a very good London City side.

"If you get caught up on the result then it's not going to help. We are a new team, for a lot of these players it's their first time playing at this level. It's going to take time to get up to speed. These games are tough, it's a learning opportunity for these players, but we don't have time to just learn. We need to try and get results.

"I take full responsibility - I set them up to be aggressive, to take the game to them. I'm so proud of them."

Player of the match Isobel Goodwin speaking to BBC Two: "It's nice to get on the scoresheet, we had to react to last week. Really happy, big win.

"All we needed to do was react, we just wanted to score goals, that's all we needed to do. It was just the reaction that we needed to last week so we're really happy."

"It gives us so much confidence moving forward. There's a big game next week, hopefully we can get three points, really happy."

"I want to score as many as possible but it's a team sport. We want to finish as high as possible and hopefully get into the Champions League."

Chelsea deserving of the win but Birmingham City will be left wondering what could have been.

The visitors looked down and out in that first half but they came out swinging after the break and created three good chances to score.

Agonisingly, the last of those chances came just seconds before Melvine Malard put the game to bed with Chelsea's second goal.

Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor might have preferred a more comfortable win but will ultimately be pleased with her side avoiding what happened against Villa to secure the result and a clean sheet.

Is this a late chance for Birmingham City?

Lucy Bronze brings a player down on the edge of the box and the referee awards a free kick.

It's Oceane Hurtre to deliver, but Chelsea goalkeeper Hannah Hampton punches it clear.

London City Lionesses were a little bit rattled when Hutton got the goal but they just turned up the gear and were able to carry on scoring goals.

It's disappointing for Charlton, it's not a great way to lose. Good reaction from London City as a reaction to last weekend's West Ham game.

Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor makes three changes.

I can't believe we're seeing Alyssa Thompson come off without a goal or an assist, she's been so dangerous this afternoon.

Sjoeke Nusken takes in the applause of the fans as she walks round the pitch to the bench, with Kadeisha Buchanan also making way.

It's Natalie Bjorn, Giulia Dragoni, and Katie McCabe who replace them.

After a dominant London City performance, the match stats do not make pleasant reading for Charlton fans.

Many players could've got player of the match today, but I think it's been Isobel Goodwin she caused such a problems down the centre of the pitch, it was a constant battle down the side of the pitch.

Chelsea are slowing things down now.

They've got their second goal and are happy to pass the ball between themselves until the whistle.

It's a dominant victory for London City who bounce back from last week's defeat with an impressive display.

Charlton had some decent moments and opened their WSL goals account with a stunner from Jodie Hutton, but ultimately they couldn't compete with London City's quality.

From a Charlton point of view, we haven't seen Hutton much in this second half. She's so important to them, when she has it at her feet, you know she can make something happen. It's a shame they haven't been able to find her more.

Alexia Putellas glides through midfield and feeds Nikita Parris to her right.

Nicole Anyomi is in oceans of space in the middle, but Parris doesn't get her head up. Her cross eventually finds Anyomi but she's under pressure and can't finish.
