It was just one of those days were England needed to keep going. They got their rewards in the last two overs by keeping with their mindset.

A century of 'beautiful drives' - Conway's best shots

New Zealand batter Devon Conway speaking to Sky Sports: "Great day for us, nice to build a partnership with Tom. Pretty happy with the way things have gone.

"We knew that the wicket was going to be quite nice. It was important for us to put pressure on the bowling.

"I still felt a little out of sorts at times. I've been struggling with my pre-movement at times, but it was nice to get through those moments. I was trying out keeping my back foot still as I was getting it in too late. I tried for the first three balls and scratched that and went back, just trying to move earlier.

"I don't know quite what par is, but a bit disappointing to lose two wickets at the end. We've still got plenty of batters in the shed, hopefully we can kick on and build partnerships."

On travelling home to see his new-born baby: "It was a long trip, but I'm really glad I was allowed to go back and see the little one. Tom did whisper in my ear he wanted to see the baby celebration."

    Good point, Alex.

The MCC have actually changed Law 12.5.2 so that the final over of a day's play will not end if there is a wicket but will continue until the last over has been completed.

However, that will not come into effect until October.

This is where cricket is a real shame. The last over of the day and you take a wicket, when you have just gained momentum.

    TWO IN TWO!

Jofra Archer fizzes one in the corridor of uncertainty and Henry Nicholl's is drawn into playing at it.

A bit of nothing shot from the left-hander, trying to pull his bat away possibly. and Jamie Smith takes the catch above his head.

The Trent Bridge crowd roar with delight.

I said Henry Nicholls was trying to hide the strike from Rachin Ravindra before the close and here's why.

The Kiwi batter takes on a short ball from Gus Atkinson and sends it straight up the chimney.

Jamie Smith stations himself under a simple catch.

    A late boost for England.

  10. NZ 361-2published at 83.5 overs

The fans at Trent Bridge who have stayed until the bitter end are treated to a glorious cover drive from Henry Nicholls off Gus Atkinson.

Poise, footwork and a flourish on the follow through as he caresses it to the boundary for four all along the carpet.

You really have to feel for Shoaib Bashir. Dragged around Australia to be the water carrier. Finally brought in on an absolute road and flayed to all corners. England have spent the past 13 years cycling through spinners. Throwing them into impossible situations.

    Alex, London

  14. NZ 353-2published at 82 overs

Gus Atkinson shares the new ball with Jofra Archer.

Rachin Ravindra, a fluent stroke maker, retreats into his shell. He knows this is a good pitch and tomorrow will be the time to make hay on it.

    A maiden from Atkinson.

There has been some very poor wicket keeping from England in this series. How Ben Foakes is not in the side is beyond me! Catches win matches!

6pm. They have played six hours but England have only bowled 90 overs instead of 90, despite using Shoaib Bashir to speed up the overs. Do England players get fined their entire match fee for their slow play?!

    Aggressive from Jofra Archer.

A short-pitched delivery clocks Henry Nicholls on the helmet.
