  1. NZ 233-0published at 58 overs

Oooof, bad ball from Shoaib Bashir, sitting up to be struck through mid-wicket for four by Devon Conway.

That takes Conway to 111, one run fewer than batting partner Tom Latham.

Brilliantly timed and aggressive from Devon Conway

  3. NZ 228-0published at 57 overs

Ah, after a tantalising sight of Jacob Bethell it turns out it was just to facilitate a change of ends for Josh Tongue.

Devon Conway adds another four from the England seamer, striking off his toes.

Brilliant from both of them out there in the middle. They're motoring

There's Devon Conway's eighth Test century!

He joins his batting partner on three figures, hitting consecutive fours off Shoaib Bashir to reach the landmark.

He cracks a delivery through long-on to reach 99, then powers the ball to the point ropes.

Having reached the century from 174 deliveries, one more dot ball ends the over.

Brilliant start for New Zealand. This opening partnership has been outstanding. Frustrating for England. With these two tiring out in the middle, you'd think England can catch a break soon.

  7. NZ 215-0published at 55 overs

    Latham 110, Conway 95

    Big appeal!

Jacob Bethell goes up after Devon Conway misses a big swing - there's a noise before Jamie Smith gathered, but it's bat hitting ground.

Players are back out... and it's Jacob Bethell time!

England turn to a sixth bowler right after tea - the left-arm spinner did take 3-26 and 1-49 at The Oval when Shoaib Bashir was out of the team.

When does the cricket start? I’ve heard England haven’t shown up to the game yet? Is there a delay?

A very good start for New Zealand. They will need to get these runs because their bowling is not quite as lengthy or experienced as some of their batting, so they really need to push ahead if they're going to put a lot of pressure on England.

I wouldn't be surprised if England don't enjoy these conditions. The key to a couple of things is movement in the ball and the length of the ball.

Speaking of formidable predecessors, I have a friend who has succeeded an apparent master of the fruit and veg aisle at a high end supermarket in Bournemouth.

He is now haunted daily by customers who lament the absence of this remarkable wrangler of fresh produce, claim he "really knew his stuff" and state his departure was like "the ravens leaving the Tower of London".

In turn, in an increasingly large circle of people now want to now what made this man so skilled in all things fruit and veg.

So if you recently left such a position, please get in touch and tell us your secrets - it may be more enthralling than the upcoming session.

Big shoes to fill, but attempt to fill them I shall.

New Zealand's day so far, do you reckon?

Generous applause from the Trent Bridge crowd for Tom Latham and Devon Conway as they make their way off the ground.

Here's Mike Peter to talk you through the tea interval and into the evening session.

    That's tea.

Toil, toil and more toil for England in a wicketless afternoon session.

Tom Latham is unbeaten on 109 while Devon Conway is 94 not out.

  16. NZ 211-0published at 53.2 overs

England would have more chance of taking wickets on the M6 looking at this pitch at Trent Bridge.

Josh Tongue is full on the pads with his second delivery but Tom Latham tickles it square for a single.

  17. NZ 208-0published at 53 overs

Ben Stokes, like Josh Tongue, bowling full at the pads as the clock ticks towards to the interval.

Both Tom Latham and Devon Conway fairly comfortable.

Tom Latham is always a player who plays in a very compact way, with the strengths that he has.

  20. NZ 206-0published at 52 overs

Only 10 minutes or so until tea but Devon Conway and Tom Latham are brought out some liquid to hydrate themselves.

Josh Tongue with a testing over as he arrows in at the stumps.

The Nottinghamshire seamer first hits Latham just above the knee roll with his second delivery but there's a chunk of inside edge on it. Rueful smiles all around.

He then strikes Latham on the back leg but height is a prohibitive factor in the decision not to purse matters.
