Have your say on England men this summer

I reckon Phillips is going to have a go here.

  2. NZ 49-6published at 16 overs

Yep, definite change of approach from Glenn Phillips which is probably the right call on this surface.

He takes two more boundaries off Ben Stokes, punching down the ground for the first before driving through the covers.

'Robinson has got another one!' - Mitchell bowled for 12

Ollie Robinson has been the slowest among all bowlers so far at 80 mph. However, his accuracy has been outstanding, with 78% of his deliveries pitching on a good line and length - the most for any bowler today.

New Zealand have got to start thinking about the scoreboard and getting the scoreboard moving in the right direction.

Anything that you get to hit, you've got to fully commit. That was a tremendous shot.

  5. NZ 40-6published at 15 overs

I wondered whether Glenn Phillips was going to take the aggressive route and he's showing some signs of that intent.

He pulls a short ball for four off Josh Tongue before slapping another through the covers. New Zealand still trail by 100.

  6. NZ 32-6published at 14 overs

Ben Stokes concedes three from his first over of the day, which is atrociously expensive by today's standards.

We can play until 19:30 BST if the light remains good enough, which it looks like it will.

  7. New Zealand's lowest Test totalspublished at 18:54 BST

    Sam Drury
    BBC Sport at Lord's

The good news for New Zealand is that they've already gone past their lowest innings total in Tests. They've still got work to do to beat the second lowest though...

    • 26 v England, Auckland - 1955
    • 42 v Australia, Wellington - 1946
    • 45 v South Africa, Cape Town - 2013
    • 47 v England, Lord's - 1958
    • 54 v Australia, Wellington - 1946

That Wellington Test against Australia didn't go well, did it?

The batting units have got to be brave. It's the type of pitch where you just have to go out and play some shots.

  9. How's stat?!published at 18:51 BST

    Andy Zaltzman

That was Josh Tongue's 50th wicket in his 10th Test, the equal sixth-quickest an England bowler has reached the mark in terms of matches.

  10. wicket

    Blundell b Tongue 4 (NZ 29-6)

    Wow.

Josh Tongue sends Tom Blundell's off stump cartwheeling. Pushing 90mph, and Blundell plays all around a straight one.

The sun is shining now and there is a genuine possibility that England could bat again tonight.

Ollie Robinson's best figures in an innings:

    • 5-49 vs South Africa, The Oval, 2022
    • 5-65 vs India, Leeds, 2021
    • 5-85 vs India, Nottingham, 2021
    • 4-10 vs New Zealand, Lord's, 2026 (Today)

Drops, boundaries and a 50 - the best of Harry Brook's eventful innings

Glenn Phillips is a naturally aggressive player. Could he look to play a knock like Harry Brook did and put some pressure back on England?

  13. Postpublished at 18:42 BST

    Michael Vaughan
Former England captain on BBC Test Match Special

New Zealand so far haven't really tried anything. They haven't tried to come down the pitch or tried to put Ollie Robinson off his length.

  14. NZ 21-5published at 11 overs

New Zealand do bat deep, with Glenn Phillips in at seven, but they're in a right pickle regardless.

Josh Tongue knocks the bails off at the non-striker's end with his knee, which is called a no-ball, and that's the only run off another testing over.

Ollie Robinson has got it on a string. He's bowling the perfect length, it's skidding.

    Mitchell b Robinson 12 (NZ 20-5)

    Yep, it's on!

Two types of leave, and all that. Daryl Mitchell misjudges one, thinking he can leave on length but is cleaned up.

    This is just bonkers.

    Two-day Test?

  18. NZ 20-4published at 9.3 overs

Daryl Mitchell goes full Harry Brook, clearing the front leg and trying to whack OIlie Robinson out of St. John's Wood.

He gets away with a bottom edge but breaks his bat in the process, so the umpires call for drinks while his new one is delivered.

Josh Tongue was one of the few England players to come away from Australia with their reputation enhanced.

He'll want to back that up this summer, starting by getting in on the act in favourable conditions this evening.

  20. NZ 20-4published at 9 overs

Tom Blundell gets off the mark with a couple before he is beaten by an absolute beauty from Josh Tongue, who has replaced Gus Atkinson.

He can't believe that it's missed the stumps, just whizzing past by a whisker. A wry smile from Blundell.
