West Indies need a couple of big overs otherwise the run-rate is going to spiral out of control.

12 off Dani Gibson's first over will help, though, as Shemaine Campbelle plays a lovely controlled edge for four before pulling another past deep square.

That run-rate keeps on creeping up, which I think we are going to continue to see in this innings. There is just no rhythm to what the West Indies are doing.

Charlie Dean, after getting hit for the first two boundaries, changed her angle by coming round the wicket. She was hit for a six by Deandra Dottin, but persisted with the angle to take her wicket. Between 2022 and 2025, she bowled only 5% of her deliveries round the wicket to right-handed batters. This year, that has gone up to 26%. She has looked to use this angle against the power hitters, dismissing Richa Ghosh and Harmanpreet Kaur this way in 2026.

Metronomic as ever from Sophie Ecclestone.

The West Indies batters try to be proactive and use their feet, but can't get the ball off the square.

That wicket was so crucial - West Indies were beginning to creep up on worm parity.

A wonderful catch there by Capsey, tracking back and catching over her right shoulder, that wasn't an simple catch but she got the deadly Dottin.

That was a huge wicket for England. With the two wickets England have got, they will be fuelled with confidence.

But Charlie Dean wins the battle!

It looks like Dottin has sent another one sailing over the ropes but Alice Capsey runs round from long-on and takes a fantastic catch right on the boundary sponge.

A huge boost for England at the end of the powerplay.

  9. 6 runs

    WI 44-1published at 5.3 overs

    Walloped!

This is what Deandra Dottin can do.

  10. WI 38-1published at 5.2 overs

Well, Deandra Dottin looks to take down Charlie Dean with the last over of the powerplay.

Back-to-back fours down the ground, as Sophie Ecclestone can only watch the ball fizz past her at mid-off.

Shemaine Campbelle has hit the flattest six you'll see - that skimmed over the boundary.

  12. 6 runs

    WI 30-1published at 5 overs

    Target 187

    My word, what a shot.

After three dot balls, the diminutive Shemaine Campbelle hits Lauren Bell for a hard, flat six over square leg! That was flying, and barely got off the ground.

Hayley Matthews will be even angrier when she hears the audio of the third umpire saying "There's a gap between bat and ball."

That wasn't good from Hayley Matthews - we are very discliplined with that in cricket. She is still protesting on the boundary which won't help her cause.

That is a huge wicket. West Indies rely so much on their captain, and she is still unhappy as she is still ranting as she gets back to the dugout.

She knows that West Indies' hopes of victory have probably departed with her.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 3.4 overs

    Matthews c Jones b Smith 14 (WI 21-1)

    Eeek.

Hayley Matthews is absolutely raging. She is arguing with the umpires and is suggesting that the spike or the noise has come from something else, and in fairness to her, there was a gap between bat and ball on the slow-mo.

    Controversial!

  18. Postpublished at 20:39 BST

    Weird.

There's a spike, but there is a clear gap between bat and ball...

    Now then.

After two fours in the over, has Linsey Smith fought back to get Hayley Matthews caught behind?

The umpire isn't moved but Amy Jones went up right away...

  20. WI 12-0published at 3 overs

    Target 187

Another couple of wides from Bell, who hasn't been at her best here but she's getting away with it.

It's unlikely that the same would happen against the likes of India or Australia, which is something that England do need to be aware of.
