
Somalia: Eight killed in airport attack
Suspected al-Shabab militants target the main airport in the capital, Mogadishu.
A gun attack at the entrance to the international airport complex outside the Somali capital, Mogadishu, has left at least eight people dead. A police spokesman told the BBC that five of the dead were foreigners, including an African Union force soldier. The al-Shabab group said it was behind the attack.
In South Sudan the main opposition party the Sudan People's Liberation Movement in Opposition has withdrawn from the country's peace monitoring body, accusing rival forces of unprovoked attacks.
And, a group of climate activists from Uganda have met Pope Francis at the Vatican. They are hoping to get his support for their campaign to stop the construction of the East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline.
