
Nigeria: Widows lose case against oil company Shell
The women accused Shell of being jointly responsible for the deaths of their husbands
A court in The Hague in the Netherlands has rejected a case brought by four widows against the oil company Shell. The women had accused Shell of being jointly responsible for the deaths of their husbands. The men were executed after protesting against pollution caused by oil leaks in the Niger Delta. Together they became known as the Ogoni Nine.
In Somalia, eight people have lost their lives after an attack outside the international airport complex in the capital, Mogadishu. Witnesses say they heard heavy gunfire and saw black smoke.

And, a group of climate activists from Uganda have met Pope Francis at the Vatican. They are hoping to get his support for their campaign to stop the construction of the East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline.
