A battle of bargains takes place in the shadow of the marvellous Malvern Hills in Worcestershire.

Caroline Hawley soaks up the fascinating story of Malvern’s popularity as a spa town. Visitors flocked to the Worcestershire town in the Victorian era to cure all manner of ailments, bathing in and drinking the spring water gushing out of the Malvern Hills. Notable patients included Florence Nightingale, Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens's wife, Catherine.

Hoping for a healthy profit at auction are two teams of students hunting for bargains with their experts David Fergus and Thomas Forrester. Aiming to school the blues are student teachers Sophie and Bethany, and hoping to make their mark on the map are their opponents, geography undergraduates Patrick and Freya.

With 60 minutes on the clock, the reds make an unseasonal stop at a stall selling an American steerable sledge, but with an asking price of three figures, the team steer away from it. Meanwhile, the blues wonder if an airline cargo sign might meet their expert's challenge, but Thomas doesn’t think it’s a flyer! The teams touch down in Bristol, where auctioneer Andy Stowe reveals his estimates on their items before he taxis to the rostrum to sell them in front of a roomful of bidders.
