My internet research described the Dirty Sanchez foursome's 'Tireless pursuit to destroy the bounds of taste and decency!' and after my previous shenanigans with the delightful Jordan, I had become somewhat apprehensive about meeting them.

However, although the boys appear to have very little respect for their own wellbeing, Pritchard, Dainton, and Pancho were (almost) ultimate gents when it came down to their interview (after a gig at The Works in Nottingham)!

In case you are unaware, these obsessive self-abusers are four skateboarding maniacs from South Wales (well, one is southern) who made their fame from the cult MTV series 'Dirty Sanchez'.

This slightly warped, yet highly entertaining documentary demonstrates the lads attempting new and novel ways to deliver physical and mental pain to themselves through torturous methods of self-harm, all in the name of… fun? I caught up with the lads earlier this year to see what all the fuss is about.

------

So boys, dare I ask, why are you called Dirty Sanchez?
You know why? Sexual term! We didn't have a name for the show and lot of the time we were just giving each other Dirty Sanchez's for a laugh. That is how it evolved and Joycey always took it that bit further!

Who was the first one to try it then?!?
Joycey!! (the southerner who was missing from the interview) He actually did it to himself first! Mind, he would Dirty Sanchez man, dog, woman, beast.

Whose idea was it to start the programme?
It was originally a skateboard video we made called "Pritchard vs Dainton" (which is on sale) and MTV copied us! It was originally just us two just messing around. We've been friends through skating since we were 15.

You get compared to Jackass a lot. Do you take this as a compliment?
We never get compared to Jackass. The Pritchard vs Dainton video was before Jackass anyway. People in the media always compare us. The only way to compare us is that we're all skateboarders and all skateboarders have the same kind of mentality. That is where it comes from, the skateboarder sense of humour.

You have been described as "a bunch of dossers with nothing better to do that make each other bleed". How true is this statement?
We've got other jobs! We have a clothing company called Stimulus and a skateboard company called KillCity, but it's as true as you want to believe it is. I'm a carpenter by trade, Matthew is a chef, Pancho is a mechanical engineer, and we produce, direct and edit our videos, but if this is how we are perceived then it's quite funny. I guess that's how it works as a show. We are the ones at the end of the day getting paid to enjoy ourselves having a laugh. What we do is the biggest piss-take in history!

What is your motivation/inspiration behind the stunts you do?
We don't set out to do things, they just happen. All the party stories and the crazy things that seem pretty unbelievable to other people, we thought would be good to actually film. So we got a camera and filmed everything that happens. It's normality to us.

We get ourselves in the most messed up scenarios, so we decided to put this footage in with our original skateboarding video. Nailing our bits to planks of wood was just our piss-take on the film Dumb and Dumber. We don't make this stuff for anybody else, we do it for ourselves, just to see what happens!! It's the adrenaline of pushing your limits that keeps us going and insures the show does not stagnate… until one of us ends up in a coffin!!!

Are you conscious of the cameras when they are on you then?
Obviously you know the cameras are there because they're in your face, but when you're doing things that aren't pretty you don't act up - you're too caught up in the anticipation of actually doing the stunt or whatever.

Do you have any war-wounds to show?
They all show off scars and gloat.

------

There is a second series to be shown on MTV in April/May of this year, but take my advice and don't watch whilst eating your dinner!
