It was the night before my birthday, it was freezing cold and I had been at work since 9.00am (it was now 11.30pm). The last thing I really wanted to do was interview some Hollyoaks footballing-rapist but I decided that I should push myself to my limits!

So, after a can of Redbull and a serious word with myself, I headed into The Works to meet one of the sexiest blokes on British soaps, Daniel Hyde.

------

You were nominated for the TV Mag ‘Sexiest Male’ in the British Soap Awards 2003. How did your family/friends react to such a nomination?
My sister was a bit confused and the comment of "Have they not seen you on a morning?" was floating around for a while! But obviously to be up for an award like that is always a compliment.

In Hollyoaks you were known as a bit of a bad boy. How true is this to your own personality?
Not at all!

…and what’s the worst thing you’ve ever done? Oh, where is this getting printed? Hmm..
(I thought I might just get some cool gossip but then Daniel thinks for a while)
I made my mum cry once. That’s bad, isn’t it?

On the Hollyoaks website, Scott is described as ‘ambitious and possessive but can easily turn on the charm’. How do you turn on the charm with a lady that has caught your eye?

Politeness, Just compliment her!

Any cheesy one-liners?
No! No cheesy one-liners!

In Hollyoaks your character is a footballer. Who do you support?

To be honest I can’t even play football! I’m more into rugby! Chelsea? Actually, nah, they just lost! Who won recently? Arsenal, tell them I support Arsenal!

(As a true boro supporter, I politely turned up my nose in disgust)… and what do you think of England’s chances are in Euro 2004?
No chance if they carry on the way they do! They should concentrate on their football rather than getting into trouble all the time.

Your character, Scott, is quite controversial. What sort of a reception do you get from the public? Are there any crazed, psychotic stories??
Well, everyone likes a baddy don’t they? But once I was in a drive-thru in my convertible with the roof down and someone shouted "rapist!" at me! People just moved out of the way. But I think most people do understand that it isn’t real. I do get girls saying "You can rape me anytime!" but you just learn to ignore comments like that.

Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I want to get into films. I went to The Webber Douglas Academy of Performing Arts school after studying for my A levels (of which Daniel got four). Obviously there can be a lot of money in films but that’s not the main reason for wanting to do it. It's been my life ambition to get into films and like I always say: ‘You only get one crack at life, do what you love and if you get paid along the way then all the better."

Any tops tips for running the London marathon?
Don’t do it!

(I immediately admitted that I had applied for the 26.2 mile Sunday jog!).
Why would you want to do it? Make sure you have a stretcher waiting for you at the other end! (He looked slightly concerned as to the stability of my mental health!)

I giggled, and he just looked back at me, slightly scared! I think the interview had come to an end. The London Marathon appeared to be a conversation stopper, oops! I took the hint and thanked him for taking the time to talk to Platform.

------

Later on stage, Kieran, the resident DJ, had asked the audience for questions to put to Daniel. As the on-stage interview began, I actually felt sorry for the bloke! He was asked a whole range of questions from ‘Do you want a threesome with two Clifton girls?’, ‘Do you like crocodiles?’ (what?) and finally, ‘Do you know John Leslie?’ (Apparently he doesn’t!) All of a sudden, my interview had become more professional then Parkinson!

I strolled off to bed, alone, and a year older, but very happy. It was my birthday and I had just spent 20 minutes chatting to a fit bloke off the telly and come out of it sounding like Cat Deely. How lucky was that?!
