The FIVE biggest buys in Premier League history

It's been a busy summer for football, with the recent Fifa World Cup, as well as clubs making some huge signings during the current transfer window.

In just a few weeks, the record for the most expensive British player has been broken not once, but twice.

First, midfielder Elliot Anderson made history when he joined Manchester City for £116 million, before Morgan Rogers took the record with his recent move from Aston Villa to Chelsea.

But who are the most expensive buys by Premier League clubs?

Let's take a closer look at the top five.

Last September, Liverpool agreed a record £125 million deal to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

The move made the striker the most expensive player in Premier League history.

The Sweden star was a key player for Newcastle, finishing his final season as the club's top scorer with 27 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions.

However, injuries disrupted his first season at Liverpool, with Isak taking to social media to say that he was "looking forward to a much better next season."

On Monday, Chelsea made England midfielder Morgan Rogers the most expensive British player in history by signing him from Aston Villa for a fee of £117 million.

Fresh from his return from the United States, where he helped England finish third at the World Cup, Rogers signed with the Blues.

"I'm joining the biggest club in London," he said in his announcement video.

"I think it was just perfect for me. I just can't wait to get going," Rogers added.

Another England star next as, earlier this month, Elliot Anderson left Nottingham Forest to join Manchester Cit,y while he was away with England at the World Cup.

City signed the 23-year-old midfielder in a deal worth £116 million, making him the most expensive British player in football history... until Rodgers..

Anderson impressed during his time at Forest and earned a place in England's squad thanks to his energy, passing and good ball control.

Germany international Florian Wirtz arrived at Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.

The attacking midfielder is widely seen as one of Europe's brightest young talents and is famous for creating chances and scoring important goals.

However, Wirtz said he had learned a lot from experiencing a tough start to his Liverpool career.

He did not score his first goal for the Reds until the end of December, explaining: "It's sometimes good that things don't always go upwards and that you experience a dip and grow stronger because of it."

Chelsea signed Ecuador captain Moisés Caicedo from fellow Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023.

Known for his tackling and ability to win the ball back, Caicedo is seen as one of the best defensive midfielders in football.

He signed a new contract with the Blues in April, adding that his "dream is to become a Chelsea legend."
