Stephen meets the Rome guards

6 in 6 part 1

At last! We’ve arrived in Rome. Exactly 2261 miles travelling from Belfast. It’s my first visit here, and it’s going to be a fleeting one.

We’ve already had a whistle stop tour of the Italian Capital in our BBC Newsline 6 Nations in 6 Days vehicle, and taken in some of the many famous landmarks. I bumped into a couple of Roman Guards as you can see from the photographs!

Stephen at the Vatican

We are currently parked close to the Vatican, cutting our story for tonight’s show, which you’ll be able to see live on the programme at 6.30pm (as long as Gary can find an internet connection – he’s currently pacing the street) Hope we don’t get a parking ticket!

People keep stopping to ask what we’re up to – and taking pictures of the van! English student Rachel Kidd, who’s granny is from Omagh, came up to say hello. She’s at the Rome school of Mission, studying the Catholic faith with her friend Laura and people from all over the world. She presented us with a miraculous medal to wish us luck on our journey, and said she is praying we get safely to Dublin next Friday.

Gary at the colesseum

As soon as we finish at 7pm UK time, we’re off to Castres in the South of France, and then to Paris. See you there!
