Although the period as evacuees only lasted 6 years and three months it was a defining time in our lives.
My parents family was broken up and never regained it's pre war love and togetherness.
Us three boys always considered ourselves a group apart within the post war family and our wartime Mum was as important as our real Mum.
She lived to be 101, passing away in Nov 2005.
As I aproach 70 I still wonder why we spent those six years away from our home when the danger was long passed.
The period as evacuees was written for the family archive but quite a lot of people have read it and it has gone into the Landford archives.
Several people have encouraged me to add it to the BBC archives as it contains much information on social attitudes as well as wartime memories.
The original was full of photos which made the whole more interesting.
The website ripped them out.
