Woolsack Races

I ran the race this year, infact im the person picking up the woolsack in the 360 view of the races. It was my first year and i found it one of the most gruelling thing i have ever done, but what an excellent weekend it was!!

I think it was better going to the Woolsack Races than going to Cheese Rolling because Coopers Hill was too crowded and the Woolsack Races were better organised. The band was really good to.

We had a great day out and enjoyed every minute of every race. We had a really tasty burger outside the Snooty Fox and ice creams during the afternoon. The Band was fab and there were lots of stalls if you didn't want to watch the racing. We thought Alex Lovell was really friendly and entertaining and of course the sun shone which made every thing OK.

My memory tells me it was Jeremy Gahagan,Alan Markham and Ray Eastland who dreamt up the idea. From a personal point of view I can remember Jeremy talking about the need for a major fundraising event in Tetbury and the Woolsack races were the result. I am confident that they are not based in history but were thought of in the 1970's - the problem was that Tetbury Carnival had ceased to be a major fund raiser in the town.

I ran the event two years running and came 2nd by 1 sec each time, I was gutted. It was great fun and well supported by the locals.
