More than just words on a page, our values inform everything we do. They are the DNA of the BBC. They set out who we are and how we do things. They define what you can expect from the BBC, and what the BBC expects from you. Throughout the selection process, we’ll be looking for evidence of how you demonstrate each of them.

We want everyone to have an exciting and fulfilling career at the BBC, which is why everybody has a 'myConversation' twice a year to set career goals with their manager; and we invest in a wide range of development.

We want to build high performing, engaged teams across the BBC. Along with "myConversation', we reward high performance through 'myRecognition' and hold leaders to account through 360 reviews and the Leadership Index.
Trade unions
At the BBC, we are committed to fostering constructive relations with our recognised trade unions in line with our Charter obligations.
Depending where you work at the BBC, you may wish to join one of our recognised unions that form the BBC Joint Unions. They negotiate pay, terms and conditions of employment, policies and local changes plus provide individual support, advice and representation for members.
As a member of a trade union you have the opportunity to vote on any of the key issues that affect staff like pay offers and pensions and terms and conditions. Unions in the BBC are recognised to represent particular groups in negotiation. The NUJ represents journalists, Bectu represents all other staff at the BBC (including craft, technical, production, and office roles), and Unite represent particular areas of production and maintenance staff.
Management and unions, including officials and BBC reps, regularly meet at local, divisional and national level. Unions may run workplace related campaigns and lobbying on issues important to you. Working together our aim is always to improve the working lives.
MU (Musicians Union) collectively represent the BBC five Orchestra and BBC Singers based across the UK.

Across the BBC, we are working towards a more sustainable future together. Our incredible content educates audiences about the natural world, the climate crisis and sustainability. We're at the forefront of sustainable production practices, committed to becoming a Net Zero and Nature Positive organisation and to support staff to make greener choices.
