Flyover plans given green light
Work on a flyover at a busy roundabout in Swindon will start later this year after plans were given the go-ahead.

Highways Agency bosses say the flyover will cut congestion and improve safety on the Commonhead Roundabout, on the A419 between the M4 and Swindon.

The 16m plans were put on display last year, but no major objections were raised so work can now begin.

The scheme will get under way in September, and the flyover is expected to open by the end of 2006.

Roads Minister Stephen Ladyman said: "When opened the flyover will greatly reduce congestion at the roundabout.

"This will make the junction safer and improve journey times for both local people and through traffic alike."

Another project to improve the A419 by building a bypass around the village of Blunsdon is the subject of a public inquiry, due to start in the autumn.
