| | Last Thursday and Friday was the official launch nights for the 'Elvis, Second to none' CD that's out now, it's the newest release from BMG. So it seemed like I had struck lucky as there was record company guys hanging around too.
Thursday was quite nerve racking as I knew I had to impress, but the sound check beforehand went really well and the promoters seemed genuinely up for me singing there. On the night, it was awesome, the band that was backing me were fantastic, so I got into it straight away, the crowd were dancing away, and a got a really good reception.
 | | Noel Gallagher of Oasis | The following night was a bit daunting cos the head A+R guy for BMG was supposed to be there (in the end he didn't turn up like, but nevermind), and it was a much bigger room, very swanky! Again though, I rocked the place when given my chance and loved every minute. I got to sing a classic Oasis tune, 'Don't look back in anger' which made me feel right at home, I had them all singing along.
I was a bit tipsy come the second set though, and went a bit wild. However, I was chatting to people backstage efterwards and they said I was even better! Whoo Hoo!
So I have made some really good contacts through it all, and now have secured myself a regular spot at the Cafe de Paris on Thursdays where I'll be singing with various West End stars and ex chart toppers. When they have a big night it's at Inferno's, and if I'm lucky and do well to impress, I can get myself on there as well.
They had Darren Day singing there last Friday, this Friday its an evening with Barry McGuigan , former feather weight champion! I actually performed last night at Cafe de Paris, it's Friday 17 October 4.30pm ish now. Managed to meet some more people that are gonna help me out, get me more gigs.
 | | Barry McGuigan | So in general, I'm keeping busy that way, and making a bit of money with it so I can survive down here!
I'm going home for a few days next week, see my doggies! Oh yeah, and my Mam, Dad, and the rest of the family! But I miss my dogs!
Gonna go round a few schools in my local area while I'm up which should be cool cos it's my old piano teacher thats taking me around them all, Dave Muckle, he the man. I remember, when I had him for my very first lesson, I was about nine. He arrived outside my house, in a beaten up old mini, hair down to his knees just about, proper Hippie, with a cheesy grin.
He was not really what you'd expect from a piano techer really, which is what I liked, it was quite funny. Come to think about it, I don't know how the hell we managed to get him as my teacher, dunno where he came from! But anyway yeah, he taught me my first instrument, so I'm forever grateful, and it's really great that I can see him now and do stuff like what where gonna do next week.
Before Fame Academy, the last time I saw him was when I was about 14 or 15. He moved, and it became difficult to carry on the lessons, but you see, it happened for a reason, because thats when I picked up the guitar, the rest is rock and roll history my friends.
So there you have it, that's what I'm up to at the mo. I'll get another one of these up in a week or two. Hope you find it interesting ! Take care people, ciao.
Gary xx.
