FaithYou are in: Tees > Faith > The gift of life ![]() Join Mark for Sunday Breakfast from 0600 The gift of lifeThis week Mark sees some events in his personal life that make him realise how important life is. I've been thinking a lot about life this week and how valuable it is. It started on Monday when I heard the news that a friend and his wife had lost their ten week old baby, the little thing was still in the womb and the hospital couldn't find a heartbeat when the lady went for a scan. So cruel, I can't answer any questions as to why it would happen, I don't have any stock answers, but I was just so sad. A little life lost, before the parents had even enjoyed the benefits of bringing the baby right into our world. Then while I was taking dinner with a friend on Tuesday he revealed to me he was seriously thinking of suicide. Hopefully I have taken the type of action any friend would take in such circumstances. I have done my best to support and encourage, and to help him focus on good rather than bad. But how tragic, that somebody should even be forced to travel down that road of wrecklessness. Even if it was in the mind and was just a cry for help. These two extremes didn't half put things into perspective for me. We are so lucky to be alive, no matter how horrible or cruel this world may seem. Sometimes we are so thankless for this great gift of life. Sometimes we take it for granted without regard for how precious a gift it is. Sometimes, just sometimes, we are wasteful of what we have. What a timely reminder for me to treasure my every breath and be aware of the real meaning of life. last updated: 06/05/2008 at 14:40
