Djokovic has a sniff again here though, forcing Sinner to deuce on his serve. Some are brought to their feet by that effort.

To be in another five setter now would be a high-class problem.

To come back against someone who is swinging with the conviction that Sinner is a difficult ask.

Advantage Sinner... fended off by Djokovic with a fine serve. Encouraging applause from the Centre Court crowd, on who the sun is now setting.

Djokovic manages to hold, thanks to a couple of well-placed drop shots and a handy net cord. He's still in it.

Jannik Sinner is pressing for a double break that would surely kill this match as a contest.

Novak Djokovic is hardly going to go down without a fight through, a laser-like shot to the right corner pulling him to 30-30 in the game.

He has a chance to convert, but plopping a shot in the net means we go to deuce.

I want to talk about how great Novak is, because of everything he means to this game and continues to do for this game.

What these guys are doing now is because of all that he has shown what is possible.

Finding a way to win 24 Grand Slams, winning all the masters series multiple times, Sinner has now won all the masters series.

Novak Djokovic has fought valiantly on these high-pressure points, but Jannik Sinner has been relentless.

There’s an air of inevitability about this now as the reigning champion sets his sights on a quick finish here.

The crowd are trying their best to be appreciative of Sinner’s performance, while also attempting to inspire Djokovic to produce something remarkable.

Jannik Sinner seems absolutely destined to compete for his fifth Grand Slam title on Sunday. But as any veteran Wimbledon fan knows, anything can still happen.

For now, Sinner is firmly on course as he holds to 15.

Djokovic goes narrowly long, advantage Sinner. This is the Italian's 11th break point of the match, Djokovic is yet to force one.

Djokovic attempts another serve and volley behind a second serve, but this time finds the net. It is only the third break point Sinner has converted from his 11th chance - but it could be critical.

Jannik Sinner covers the court at a frightening pace. A perfectly good drop shot from Djokovic is planted back past him by the Italian for another break point.

Djokovic saves it off the back of a terrific serve down the T, before another powerful serve earns him advantage.

But the Serb cannot convert, off balance on the baseline he slaps a forehand wide and spreads his arms in annoyance.

If Novak Djokovic is not careful, this match could be over very quickly.

Djokovic hasn't had a lot of opportunities on the Sinner serve. But he had a patchy set there where he missed three backhands he wouldn't normally miss then some forehands in that last game.

It is a long way back.

He has introduced himself to a wider British public in a major, major way. He will have gained so much confidence from playing the way he has on these grass courts, and the way he has fought back from some pretty desperate situations in a couple of matches. His life will now change.

He will have to wait four weeks to use his new ranking in events, so the first one will be in Cincinnati and then he will have the US Open, where he won't have to go through qualifying this time. He'll be able to enter whatever tournaments he wants by the end of the year, which is a stark contrast to last year.

Now the world is his oyster.

Way too good from Jannik Sinner, pulling his opponent all over the court, Djokovic eventually gives, landing a two-handed shot in the net to give Sinner three set points.

Sinner only needs one with an unreturned serve. This is ominous tennis.

Novak Djokovic is doing all he can, he certainly is not playing particularly badly.

But he can only acknowledge with a thumbs up one of the finest lobs you will ever see from Sinner, zipped over the Serb's head and landed inside the baseline.

Djokovic holds to 15, but Sinner will serve for a 2-0 lead.
