Donna Evans, Elfyn's wife, on Rally TV: "It was awful. Normally I stay at home and stay out of this. I'm so proud and it's been a long time coming. I thought it was over and we'd be on the first plane out of here tonight but we're so happy."

Caroline Martin, Scott's wife, on Rally TV: "This has been 20 years in the making. It's been intense and a long time coming. They have been so close. Oliver's time will come, like with Scott and Elfyn."

An emotional Oliver Solberg after his heartbreaking finish on Rally TV: "Two corners, two corners. First congratulations to Elfyn. He has been very consistent all season. That I even had a shot after my rollercoaster of a season is incredible.

"I tried everything. I knew I was pushing but didn't know if it was enough. I pushed even more and I couldn't save the car. I tried my very best.

"When you are so close, I maybe didn't believe it at the beginning of the weekend but you believe more and more. I tried. Hopefully I have a few more years to try again."

There are wonderful scenes here in Sardinia among the small but noisy travelling Welsh fans.

There are tears of joy after scenes of carnage and mayhem in that late win. It was like a last-minute winner in football.

Elfyn's name is being chanted by the throng of his supporters. He's finally done it!

Here's what Scott Martin said after they won the title: "I can't believe it. I feel for Oliver and Elliott. They pushed so hard but we done everything we could. It's hard to sum up. I've a lot of people to thank. The journey I've been on, there's a lot of people with us and a lot of people looking down on us."

A word, too, on Scott Martin.

The English co-driver has been beside Evans since 2019 and it's hard to put into words how much work goes on behind the scenes.

Before sitting beside Evans, he had worked with the late Irish driver Craig Breen, Mark Miggins and Matthew Wilson.

One of the best in the business.

In an update on Evans' progress, he's now stuck in a traffic jam behind a camper van as he winds his way around the tight streets towards the service park.

The good driver and gentleman he is, he's giving a little wave as cars let him by.

He's laughing away with Scott Martin in the passenger seat. Another one of the joys of the sport.

After celebrating his title at the end of the stage, Elfyn Evans now gets the best drive of his life as he makes his way back to the service park.

Rally cars are able to drive on public roads, and he's getting a police escort with fans cheering him on from the side of the road.

There's the odd member of the general public driving along enjoying the Sardinia sun on a Sunday, and now they are being overtaken by the new World Rally champion!

Kaj Lindstrom, Toyota's sporting director, on the end of the rally: "That was the hardest thing. We just had to follow it and hope for the best. The ending was quite something, I didn't expect it.

"It was a good fight and we all saw that Oliver was all or nothing. It held all the way to the end.

"Oliver still has time, but Elfyn finally got his title so we're really happy for him."

    In 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024 and 2025 he missed out.

It looked like he would be the bridesmaid once again but he finally, finally gets to fulfil his dream.

Evans and Scott Martin are still on the podium drinking it all in.

He almost looked too embarrassed to celebrate when Solberg went off the road, the gent that he is, but he's making sure to take it all in now.

Fair play to Solberg, who has just received more words of condolences from nine-time champion Sebastien Ogier, as he now has to take to the podium for his victory.

His dad, Petter, was nicknamed Mr Hollywood, but I don't think I've ever seen drama quite like that.

When the dust settles, both Solberg and his English co-driver Elliott Edmundson can be very proud of that performance.

We've seen a replay of what happened.

Solberg was two seconds up on the splits, which is what he needed to win the title.

But the back end of his Yaris jumped up on a bump with three corners left and that put him off line, and that was enough to fire him off the road.

He done very well to keep his composure to get back on the road.

Here's more from Elfyn Evans, who doesn't really seem to realise what he has just achieved: "I don't really know what my reaction is,it's surreal with how it happened. It's a relief.

"It wouldn't by my proudest way of winning it, but it's job done."

In the middle of all of the chaos, Solberg actually got back on the road with enough time to win the rally.

That won't mean anything at the minute, though. His dad, Petter, and team manager Jari-Matti Latvala popped their head into to console the Swede.

You do have to feel for Solberg, who was so close to a first title after a mega weekend.

He is taking a moment to himself in his car as he thinks about what had just happened.
