Tinseltown in the Rain by local legends The Blue Nile blared on the speakers to welcome athletes and spectators to a soggy Scotstoun Stadium.
Brollies, parkas and glum expressions were seen as the women's high jump athletes walked round the track.
It wouldn’t be a Glasgow Games without a wee bit of torrential summer rain.

Some seriously grim weather has arrived in Glasgow just in time for a big night at the athletics. It's cold, very wet and grey. Not ideal conditions to say the least.

An exciting evening awaits with six finals in the athletics, 10 finals in the swimming and plenty more besides.
The sprinters take centre stage on the track with Wales' Jeremiah Azu leading the medal hopefuls among the home nations in the men's 100m with England's Amy Hunt hoping to get in amongst it in the women's 100m.
Meanwhile, in the pool, Jersey's teen sensation Filip Nowacki is hoping to add to his medal haul in the 200m breaststroke. It's his favourite event so could they even be a first gold for the 18-year-old?
It's also worth noting that the track is starting to resemble the pool a little at the moment given the rain in Glasgow so that could change the dynamics in a few events this evening...

A truly dominant performance from Wales sees them pick up their first win at these Games.
There was some superb defending from Wales out on court today and they thoroughly deserved that victory.
Lots of cheers from the Wales fans here on the final whistle and smiles all around for the team, including a very happy Wales captain Bethan Dyke!
Wales face New Zealand next tomorrow night in their penultimate game in Pool B.
Right, we're going to take a short break and come back full of energy for a big evening of sporting action.

That is the gymnastics done for this Commonwealth Games and, as ever, they did not disappoint.
Canada the standout team with seven gold medals in total, finishing with Felix Dolci's fourth, won in fine style on the horizontal bar.
There have been plenty of home nations successes as well, of course, not least Ruby Evans' stunning gold on the floor this afternoon.

It's a fourth gold medal of these Games for Felix Dolci!
And he'll be joined on the podium by his compatriot William Emard, who snatches bronze from England's Alexander Yolshin-Cash at the last with a score of 13.566.
Cyprus' Marios Georgiou takes silver.

You fear for Cammy Lynn now...
That was brilliant from Marios Georgiou. The Cypriot could not have stuck that landing any cleaner.
Yep, it's disappointment for Lynn as the judges give Georgiou a score of 14.166 to put him into second.
Alexander Yolshin-Cash slips to third with Lynn now fourth.

England's Alexander Yolshin-Cash is the last gymnast from the home nations to perform at these Games... and it's a good routine.
Small hop on the dismount but it doesn't stop him moving into the medal places!
A score of 13.233 puts him in line for silver with two athletes to go. Cammy Lynn drops to third.
Canada's Felix Dolci, with his huge score of 14.233, stays out in front.

A bit of drama now!
Canada's William Emard goes flying off the bar as his hand guard snaps and he almost pings off horizontally himself before landing on the mat.
Thankfully, he is OK and will get another attempt due to an equipment failure.
Things go much better for Emard's Canada team-mate Felix Dolci, though - he puts in an excellent routine and moves into the gold medal position.
This would be gold number four for him if he stays there. Scotland's Cameron Lynn is down to second.
Women's 63kg final
Image source, Getty ImagesEngland's Sarah Davies Smale speaking to TNT Sports after claiming a silver medal in the women's 63kg weightlifting final: "The snatch portion was on brand, I felt strong but just couldn't quite feel where the bar was today.
"I really enjoyed the crowd and that experience really shows because you can take it in and really enjoy it.
"I'm lucky to be in the position I am and have the support I have. The National Lottery stuff allows me to keep training, keep my coaches, nutritionists and the whole team so as long as we can keep doing it we'll see where we end up."
On the winner, Canada's Maude Charron: "I'm honoured to call her a friend. We've competed alongside each other since I was last here [at the Glasgow games in 2014].
"She's one of the greatest of all time in female middleweight weightlifting and I'll take the silver, for sure."

What a dominant opening 30 minutes from Wales. They pushed on in that second quarter to extend their lead.
Wales are looking set to secure their first win here in Glasgow.
They made a few changes in the second quarter, including bringing on Lowri Windsor for her debut in the Wales dress.
A proud moment for the 19-year-old from Caerphilly, South Wales.

Wales' Alexander Niscoveanu goes big but misses the catch by millimetres.
He gets back up and finishes the rest of his routine but that error means the medal hopes are almost certainly over.
The disappointment is written all over his face. He put it all out there in a bid for glory but it wasn't to be.
A score of 11.666 leaves him third with four more athletes to go in this final.
