Mayo manager Andy Moran on the GAA Social:

"It is hard to put into words.

"This year we said we would just embrace it. Today is just relief, it really is relief.

"We have been dreaming about this all our lives. We have no idea [what is to come].

"For us, this has been everything. We have given up family life, time with your kids and everyone has been doing that. It means the world to us."

No one in green and red is in any hurry to leave Croke Park.

Long after the final whistle and trophy presentation, thousands of Mayo supporters remain in the stands, singing, embracing and capturing every moment of a day they have waited 75 years to experience.

The Sam Maguire Cup is finally heading west, and the celebrations are only just beginning as generations of Mayo fans soak up a truly unforgettable afternoon.

I think the Sam Maguire has done more laps of Croke Park that we seen in the Formula 1 in Hungary earlier.

This is and will go down as one of the greatest sporting stories, particularly in this country.

It is a story of resilience, bravery and courage. That is what they showed today and what separated the teams. It was not skillset or personnel.

If you are going to take anything away from today that is all you need going forward in life, no matter how bad it gets or where you find yourself. If you keep stepping forward and show a bit of bravery, these days come and the sun shines again.

It is finally Mayo's day again.

Darragh Beirne speaking to BBC Sport NI:

"We had absolutely no fear of anyone."

"We had to run towards the fire. We couldn't be running away from it as we did in the league.

"We had to beat them head on, hit everything that moved, and luckily we took a few chances down the stretch to bring it home."

The 19-year-old also revealed he had visualised his crucial goal before the final:

"I had envisioned during the week that the ball would get flicked across to me and I was going to hit it top right.

"When the ball came to me, I just put the foot through it, seen it nestle in the top corner and the rest is history."

Beirne said the young Mayo squad never doubted they belonged on the biggest stage:

"Everyone had written us off after Roscommon. We had five weeks to regroup."

"We came into the championship with one aim - for Jack Coyne to go up the Hogan Stand steps. Today we're sitting here with Sam Maguire in the back pocket."

Every time that Kerry had the ball, Mayo put them under pressure. It was just such a brave performance and when you are trying to do something you have not done for 75 years, you have to be brave.

Mayo have so many heroes today and so many peoples had huge days.

David Clifford gave everything, but it was not enough to keep Kerry on the throne.

The Kingdom talisman finished with 1-6, producing another masterclass on the biggest stage and dragging his side back into contention with a series of crucial scores as the clock ticked down.

Yet, despite his late rally and relentless efforts to inspire those around him, Mayo held firm.

What a job that Andy Moran has done with Mayo.

'The Dog Days are Over' blares out at Croke Park. They certainly are.

Coyne hailed manager Andy Moran for transforming the squad's belief:

"That man has never shown any doubt in this team. He is an incredible person - not even a manager, a person. He makes you feel 10 feet tall."
