McLaren’s Lando Norris led Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton in final practice at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Norris, his McLaren featuring the first of two upgrades scheduled over this race and the next, was 0.117 seconds clear of Hamilton.

Championship leader Kimi Antonelli was just 0.012secs further adrift in his Mercedes, ahead of the second Ferrari of Charles Leclerc.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri was fifth fastest, while Antonelli’s team-mate George Russell was struggling, 0.602secs off the pace in sixth place.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was only seventh, one place ahead of team-mate Isack Hadjar.

The results are concerning for Russell, who could do with beating Antonelli this weekend to start cutting into the Italian’s 50-point championship lead.

Instead, Russell has been struggling for pace so far this weekend and has some homework to do before qualifying at 15:00 BST.

The heavily revised Aston Martin managed 17th fastest time in the hands of Fernando Alonso, 2.454secs off the pace in 17th, a much stronger performance than shown for most off the season so far.

Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli were the top three drivers in final practice but will that be the same trio taking pictures together by the end of qualifying in Hungary this afternoon?

World champion Norris has definitely put his hat in the ring for pole position today, while Hamilton has the incentive of grabbing a record-extending 10th pole at the tight and twisty Hungaroring.

The weekend has been a struggle so far for constructors' leaders Mercedes, and Kimi Antonelli and George Russell couldn't find pace to put themselves in the mix at the head of the timesheets. Will that change in qualifying?

It is going to be a good qualifying. We have got Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Antonelli all within a tenth of a second of each other. Charles Leclerc slightly back in fourth. Piastri there too, Russell. I am disappointed with the Red Bulls, they were looking better yesterday than they were today.

Charles Leclerc sits fourth after the final hour at the Hungaroring and George Russell is six tenths off the pace of Lando Norris in sixth.

The Red Bull pair are next in seventh for Max Verstappen and eighth for Isack Hadjar, but the Frenchman was very vocal on the team radio about his car's lack of performance.

Racing Bulls' Liam Lawson finishes his practice in ninth and the Audi of Nico Hulkenberg is 10th.

Arvid Lindblad has made it out for a quick blast on the soft tyre before qualifying begins. That's a big chunk of time the British rookie has lost, and his flying lap places him 14th on the timesheets.

Arvid Lindblad has had a precautionary power unit change and they are hopefully about to send him out shortly. That is what they are saying at Racing Bulls.

Mercedes have swept up every pole position so far this season, but at the moment, Kimi Antonelli and George Russell aren't even on the front row.

Lando Norris is out for his second run on the softs and it's another impressive lap by the world champion. The gap between himself and now second-placed Lewis Hamilton is 0.117 seconds.

Antonelli has jumped a couple of places on his next flyer and sits third on the timesheets, 0.129secs away from Norris.

McLaren also have quite a big upgrade here this weekend. It is the first of two to come in over the course of this weekend and the next one at the Dutch Grand Prix after the break. It is showing encouraging progress so far for the McLaren team that has fallen back a bit in the battle among the top four teams in the recent races.

Charles Leclerc is gearing up for his next lap on brand new soft tyres. What has the Monegasque driver got with nine minutes to go? Third place for Leclerc.

Up steps Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion is purple in the opening sector and his pace holds up as he goes quickest with a 1:18.291, pushing team-mate Leclerc down to fourth.

This is looking very good for the McLaren, we haven't really talked about them being in the fight for pole position. I know it is only practice but at the moment that is looking good.

Hang on, can McLaren put their names in the hat for a pole position this afternoon? World champion Lando Norris is on the soft tyre and his latest lap places 0.048 seconds quicker than leader Kimi Antonelli.

And team-mate Oscar Piastri is doing alright, too. The Australian is third on the timesheets, ahead of Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and the other Mercedes of George Russell.

Lewis Hamilton said he still thinks Mercedes are the team to topple this weekend, so what can Kimi Antonelli do on this latest flying lap?

The teenager goes purple in the opening sector, clocks a green sector in the middle but hasn't got the same pace in the final part of the lap. That doesn't matter, though, as he still goes quickest with a 1:18.254.

Disgusting downshifts is not the feedback Red Bull would want to hear so close to a qualifying session.

While all this final practice action has been taking place, poor Arvid Lindblad has been watching on from the Racing Bulls garage. The British teenager's car is being worked on by his mechanics, and time is ticking away for him to get some laps under his belt before Q1 gets under way at 15:00 BST.

Lindblad's team-mate Liam Lawson, meanwhile, is eighth on the timesheets.
