Lewis Hamilton is looking for a record-extending ninth win in Hungary this weekend. Can he do it? He's just beaten team-mate Charles Leclerc with a time of 1:18.729 on his latest soft-tyre attempt.

Hamilton said on Thursday Mercedes are still the team to topple, but championship leader Kimi Antonelli has just had another big lock-up on a flying lap. The Italian isn't knocking on the door of the frontrunners in this session down in 13th place.

The tight and twisty characteristics of the Hungaroring are said to suit Ferrari the most this weekend, so if we do get a battle between Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton for the race win, who do you feel would come out on top? Left thumb for Charles, right thumb for Lewis.

Lando Norris said McLaren need "perfection" to be on the top step of the podium again but he's doing alright at the moment, sitting third on the board with a 1:19.228.

Kimi Antonelli takes a chunk of kerb at Turn Six as plays catch up on the soft tyre. The Italian ends up aborting his lap after running wide at the end of the lap, so he's now stuck outside the top 10 in 11th spot.

Charles Leclerc does complete his hot lap and the Ferrari man jumps above world champion Lando Norris with a 1:18.877.

Lewis Hamilton is next to the cross the line and while he can't quite beat Leclerc to the top spot, there is only 0.037 seconds between the Scuderia team-mates.

We still can't see what Kimi Antonelli can do on the soft tyre. That is frustrating.

Cars have emerged at the Hungaroring and it's time ti bank some fast laps once again.

Lando Norris is quickest so far of the few drivers who managed to get a time in before Franco Colapinto's shunt, followed by the Red Bull of Max Verstappen.

Championship leader Kimi Antonelli had to abort his flying lap when Franco Colapinto crashed out, so the Italian is down in ninth on the timesheets. The clock is ticking down and the track is quiet.

Meanwhile, Franco Colapinto has made it safely back to the Alpine garage. The final corner, like the Turn One, has caused headaches for a few drivers already today.

The red flag is out and Franco Colapinto has come to a stop. The Argentine has crashed into the barriers at the final corner after he lost the rear of his Alpine.

Colapinto is OK and is now climbing out of his car. The session is halted while the marshals clear the stricken Alpine but hopefully, we'll be back under way shortly.

The soft tyres are popping across the timesheets now. Liam Lawson has joined Racing Bulls team-mate Arvid Lindblad with the team's upgrades this weekend and the New Zealander goes eighth on his first lfying lap.

Bob, we can't find which post that was on, but let us know and we'll give Red Bull a thumbs up.

Away from doggies doing what comes natural, Lando Norris has taken the soft C5 tyres for some qualifying simulations, and instantly goes to the top of the board with a time if 1:19.228, with Max Verstappen slotting into second on the compound, 0.193 behind.

The work is continuing over at Aston Martin on Lance Stroll's new-look car. The Canadian won't be coming out for any laps in this second session as his mechanics try and fix his rear suspension issues. Fernando Alonso is taking part, though, and the Spaniard is 14th on the timesheets.

Charles Leclerc needs a bit of run off at Turn 12 after a lock up so there's no improvement for the Monegasque driver on his latest flying lap on the medium tyre.

Turn One has been a thorn in the side of many drivers so far in Hungary and Isack Hadjar is the latest car to lock-up at the beginning of the lap and go off.

Kimi Antonelli, back in the car for FP2, needs some assistance from his pit wall. "I've nearly spun twice on braking. What is going on?" says the Italian teenager. Engineer Pete Bonnington suggests maybe boxing this lap, but Antonelli replies he keeps locking his rear tyres.

It sounds like both Mercedes drivers are struggling with the balance.

George Russell and Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli are seventh and eighth on the timesheets as the wind seems to have picked up at the Hungaroring.

Lewis Hamilton leads the session with a time of 1:19.648 from Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc, with Max Verstappen third and world champion Lando Norris in fourth.

Alpine are level on 61 points with Racing Bulls in the constructors' championship, so it's a tight fight for that best-of-the-rest fifth place in the standings, but Pierre Gasly calls in to the French team to say his car feels worse than first practice.

Over at Mercedes, George Russell isn't feeling too happy about his car either, telling his pit wall the car feels "dreadful, so out of balance".

Kimi Antonelli, Oscar Piastri, Oliver Bearman, Franco Colapinto and Valtteri Bottas are starting their first session of the weekend after sitting out first practice to let the rookies take part.

Title leader Antonelli has bolted on the medium C4 tyre, with the hard the C3 and the soft the C5 at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

It's the two Ferrari boys who go straight to the top of the timesheets, though. Lewis Hamilton clocks a 1:19.648 on the yellow rubber to lead the field, 0.455 seconds better off than team-mate Charles Leclerc.

There was an incident between Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen very early on in first practice when the Williams of Sainz got in the way of the Dutchman while on the racing line at Turn 12. Verstappen, who was on a flying lap, then slowed down and gestured at the Spaniard to vent his frustration.

Sainz said he was unaware Verstappen was approaching because his radio cable was disconnected.

Both drivers were flagged by the stewards for driving erratically and after an investigation, Verstappen has been cleared and Sainz has been handed a warning.
