Gillingham winger Kadeem Harris is set to be on the sidelines for a prolonged period after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament.

Harris was carried off on a stretcher in the 70th minute of the 0-0 draw at Fleetwood Town on Saturday after suffering the injury.

The 33-year-old signed for the Gills in June and has started all three games for the club - two in League Two and one in the EFL Cup - this season.

"Kadeem was one of our star signings in the summer window so to now be without a player of his calibre, quality and professionalism is a huge loss to the group," boss Gareth Ainsworth told the club website., external

"He will be sorely missed during this time but we wish him a full and speedy recovery and I have no doubt he will come back an even stronger character than he already is."

Motherwell have made the "perfect addition" with the signing of striker Seb Palmer-Houlden from Gillingham for an undisclosed fee.

Palmer-Houlden, 22, has committed to Fir Park until summer 2028, with the club holding the option of a further year.

He brings previous Premiership experience, having scored nine goals in 39 appearances on loan at Dundee in the the 2024-25 campaign.

Motherwell hope to have the striker available for Thursday's Conference League play-off first leg at home to Freiburg.

"We've been looking to strengthen in the forward areas and Seb is a perfect addition," manager Alfred Johansson said.

"With experience here in Scotland, Seb has been playing and scoring at his previous clubs and offers pace, strength and versatility in the forward line."

Palmer-Houlden joined Gillingham on a three-year deal from Bristol City last summer and departs after playing 37 games, scoring five times.

"I'm so happy to be back in Scotland and, most importantly, at Motherwell," he said.

"It's no secret how well this club is doing right now. Speaking to the manager, he's made it clear what he wants me to do and that clarity is so important.

"I think every footballer would want to play in a team like this, so I feel really privileged to be given this opportunity."

Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth says he hopes the club's new recruits will make the team more dynamic this season.

The Gills get their League Two campaign under way on Saturday at home to Walsall.

Ainsworth has brought in 12 new players in an attempt to improve on the 17th place in his first full season in charge.

"I'm hoping you'll see the proper us this Saturday," the Gills boss told BBC Radio Kent.

"It's the league campaign. I've said judge me on this. I want to see a different Gillingham team that you haven't seen for a few years.

"You can change styles slightly, but you can't change personal attributes. You can't make someone quicker, cleverer or braver, and I believed I needed to do that with a few players last year and I couldn't.

"The players I've signed have got different attributes this season, so I'm hoping you'll see a performance difference [and an] energy difference.

"I can't guarantee results but they're a by-product of those other things.

"I want the fans to see a difference in the way we're playing."

Eastleigh have signed Gillingham midfielder Nelson Khumbeni on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old joined the Gills from Bolton last year and made 22 appearances last season.

He has non-league experience from a successful loan spell with Fylde.

Eastleigh will host Gateshead in the National League on Saturday.

Gillingham boss Gareth Ainsworth says he is "very excited" by new season-long loan signing Sheldon Kendall from Championship side Millwall.

The 18-year-old arrived this week to make it 11 signings for the Gills this summer.

He made three senior appearances for the Lions, featuring as a substitute in their victories against Newport County and Coventry City in the Carabao Cup last season.

Ainsworth told BBC Radio Kent that Kendall stood out in a friendly against Millwall last season, and he had been one of the club's top targets this summer.

"It was his attacking flair and the Garath McCleary-esque play," Ainsworth said. "With Garath at 39 and Kadeem [Harris] at 33, we've got a lack of players who can take people on.

"Sheldon is an unknown, but I feel like he's going to fit in really well. He's very exciting, can score with both feet, goes either way, super quick. Plenty to learn but one that really does excite me".

The club do have James Brophy and Ronan Hale in the squad, but Ainsworth said Kendall adds to their attacking options.

"He's one that I want to get the ball to, and I want him to take risks, and we'll back those risks.

"An edge-of-the-seat player, and hopefully he can entertain the Gills fans, because I know he is capable of turning games."

Gillingham also added utility defender Conor McManus to the squad this week, joining on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee from Premier League side Brentford.

The 22-year-old did not play a first-team match for the Bees after moving from Irish side Bray Wanderers, but Ainsworth said the former Republic of Ireland Under-21 captain will bring some leadership to the squad.

"He will ask questions, he will demand of his team-mates, and I want tacticians who can solve problems on the pitch. I think we've probably really missed that in the past here, and that's something I wanted to sign this summer.

"He's quick and strong, with a fabulous left foot, and plays right as well - he can play anywhere across the back".

Gillingham have signed winger Sheldon Kendall on a season-long loan deal from Millwall.

Gillingham have brought in defender Conor McManus for an undisclosed fee from Premier League side Brentford.

The 22-year-old did not play a first-team match for the Bees after moving from Irish side Bray Wanderers.

Left-back McManus is a former Republic of Ireland Under-21 player and will be available to make his Gillingham debut in their EFL Cup tie at home to Luton Town on Saturday (15:00 BST).

Gillingham have signed former Southampton defender Samuel Tabares.

The 19-year-old arrives at the League Two outfit having left Saints earlier in the summer following a two-year stay at St Mary's.

Tabares trialled with Gareth Ainsworth's Gills for a short period earlier in the summer and has now agreed terms.

The club have not disclosed the length of the contract.

Tabares is yet to play a senior professional game although he did appear for Fulham Under-21s against Shrewsbury Town in the EFL Trophy in August 2024.
