Ki, London: Are Chelsea allowed to sign anyone, even if they replace Enzo/ Neto?

It is true that both Enzo Fernandez and Pedro Neto could leave Chelsea despite their exceedingly high price tags, with the former available for £120m.

However, Chelsea already have a wealth of midfield options, including Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Dario Essugo and new signings Jordan Henderson and Valentin Barco.

On the right wing, Chelsea have Estevao Willian and another new signing, Geovany Quenda, while Cole Palmer is also capable of playing in that position.

Chelsea can afford replacements if they receive the substantial fees they expect for those players. The question, however, is whether they should instead give an opportunity to those already on the books.

Daniel, Derby: How does Jeremie Frimpong class as a homegrown player?

Despite being born in Amsterdam and playing internationally for the Netherlands, because Jeremie Frimpong spent nine years in Manchester City's academy between 2010 and 2019, then he is eligible to be a homegrown player.

Mike, Bath: The homegrown rule works the opposite too right? Eric Dier was not considered a homegrown player in the Spurs squad as he completed his education in Portugal. Is English, played for England and lived in England but was on the books as an overseas player.

Correct, Mike. It is all to do with how much time a player has spent effectively doing their football education in England rather than birthplace.

In the case of Eric Dier, who was listed as a none-homegrown player during his career, he spent minimum than the three years required at English clubs before turning 21.

A reverse example of this is Noni Madueke, who is homegrown but was at PSV Eindhoven between the ages of 16 and 20 before joining Chelsea. Because Madueke had spent around seven years playing academy football for Crystal Palace and then Tottenham Hotspur prior to moving to Eindhoven, he played enough years of academy football in England to make him homegrown.

I do think there are a couple of issues that need to be accepted.

Firstly, it was anticipated from within the club that Marcus Rashford would leave, clearing the club’s biggest earner off the wage bill. That has not happened and all the noises are pointing towards the fact it won’t.

That effectively rules out a left sided attacking arrival – and also restricts the amount of money available.

Joshua Zirkzee also remains at United even though Michael Carrick’s pre-season selections indicate he has dropped behind 19-year-old Shea Lacey in the pecking order.

There is interest in Zirkzee from Italy but, so far, there is no deal.

Conversations around a ‘third’ midfielder following the arrivals of Tielemans and Andrey Santos are complicated by the positive pre-season performances of Mason Mount in the number eight role.

Carrick evidently wants to adopt a more possession-based approach this season, which suits Mount. The argument against that is his patchy injury record. However, interest in highly-rated Leicester midfielder Louis Page has led to suggestions – unconfirmed by the club – that he could be the ‘third’ man.

That leaves left-back.

Luke Shaw started all 38 Premier League games last term. But with Patrick Dorgu viewed primarily as an attacking player, the back-up is either Noussair Mazraoui – who started at right-back against PSG on Saturday – or Diogo Dalot.

I would regard them as fill-ins. Shaw doesn’t have the greatest injury record and has entered the final year of his contract.

Newcastle don’t seem to be keen to sell Lewis Hall and there has been speculation around Miles Lewis-Skelly from Arsenal.

That is the area I think United will reinforce.

Adrian, Somerset: Are Man United actively trying to bring anyone else in or are we done?

I don’t think Manchester United are ‘done’, Adrian, no. Or at least if they are, they will be disappointed with the outcome.

What United has done is make a very good job of staying under the radar.

A conversation with someone senior at United about growing concern among the fanbase about lack of signings since Youri Tielemans’ £35m move from Aston Villa was confirmed on 14 July was a simple reply that the club should be judged at the end of the window.

That certainly gave the impression of more business being done.

Andrew, New Forest: Why do / can some teams decide not to disclose the transfer fee?

Undisclosed transfer fees are really just a way of clubs keeping their cards close to their chest.

It means rivals do not know how much of your transfer budget Team A has spent, nor do they now how much Team B has to re-invest in a replacement player.

It all seems quite pointless in the modern era, where we generally get to hear about most transfer fees through agents or other sources.

Then there are the deals done with overseas clubs who are listed on the stock market, such as Lyon and Juventus. A Premier League club might list a deal as undisclosed, then the other club has to tell the stock market the exact fee and any variables. There's even less point in the English club holding back the details of the deal, but they still do.

Iain, Brighton: Why haven’t Liverpool gone for someone like Jarrod Bowen from West Ham? He is exactly what they need on the right wing!

Liverpool have been interested in Bowen previously under Jurgen Klopp but now at 29, signing him wouldn’t fit in line with their model of seeking value in the market and identifying and recruiting emerging talent.

Besides, Bowen signed a revised West Ham contract last month.

Additionally, there is a genuine belief inside Anfield that Rio Ngumoha could be a star for years to come so investing in someone like Bowen could hinder his progress. Ngumoha, who usually plays down the left, has featured on the right during pre-season.

There is still an admiration of Bowen’s qualities and the proven Premier League experience he would bring as Liverpool are yet to replace Mohamed Salah but in that respect, PSG'S Bradley Barcola is the primary candidate after Liverpool missed out on Yan Diomande.

Nottingham Forest

Ousmane Diomande spent three years in Portugal with Sporting CP and won the domestic double with the club.

Nottingham Forest Executive George Syrianos said they are "excited to welcome" the 22-year-old:

“He has fantastic experience for a defender of his age. Playing a crucial role in title winning teams and going into the latter stages of the Champions League puts him in a great position to integrate well here at Forest.

“Ousmane is a powerful, commanding defender, and arrives here with a winning mentality. He shares the same ambition for success we have, and we are excited to see the impact he can have in a Forest shirt.”

Nottingham Forest

After signing for Nottingham Forest on a four-year deal from Sporting, Ivory Coast international Ousmane Diomande says: "I am very happy to be here. It is a historic club, and it motivates me.

"I believe we can achieve very good things this season and I am looking forward to meeting the players and head coach.

"I will give my best and all I can to help the team. I cannot wait to meet the supporters at City Ground and together we can have a good season."

Glasner is a huge admirer of Diomande and tried to sign the central defender for Crystal Palace.

Diomande has made more than 150 senior first-team appearances, including 15 appearances for his national team.

Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of Ivory Coast international Ousmane Diomande.

Bah gawd, that's the DONE DEAL KLAXON!

Bradley Barcola has been listed in Paris St-Germain's squad for their Super Cup showdown with Aston Villa tomorrow.

The French winger is Liverpool's main target for this transfer window.

The Reds are prepared to pay a fee in excess of £100m for Barcola.

But for now, he's still primed for action with the European champions.

Chelsea are exploring potential loan moves for Mykhailo Mudryk as he looks to rebuild his fitness after 20 months out of football.

The Ukraine international, 25, has not played a competitive match since November 2024 after being suspended for returning an adverse finding for the banned substance meldonium.

However, the winger has since returned with substitute appearances in pre-season friendlies against Juventus, AC Milan and Johor Darul Ta'zim during Chelsea's tour of Asia after a settlement was reached to end his ban.

In meetings at the end of the tour, Mudryk agreed to leave on loan before the transfer deadline on 1 September.

A move to Strasbourg, which shares the same BlueCo ownership as Chelsea, has been proposed, but Mudryk would prefer a move to another English top-flight club.

Several other clubs have also emerged as potential destinations, including a number of leading sides in Italy.
