This will be just the third fixture between Greek and Austrian sides played in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League, after AEK Athens v Salzburg (1994-95) and Panathinaikos v Sturm Graz (2000-01).

The last 24 combined games played by Austrian sides in the UEFA Champions League have seen them lose on 19 occasions (W4 D1), conceding an average of 2.3 goals per match.

AEK Athens have only won two of their last 16 home games in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League (D8 L6), and lost all three in the group stage in their previous appearance in 2018-19.

Barnabás Varga has scored 11 goals across his last 15 starts in major European competitions, although this would be the AEK Athens forward’s ever first appearance in the UEFA Champions League.

AEK Athens forward Luka Jović both scored and assisted in their UEFA Champions League play-off round second leg – a 4-0 win vs Levski Sofia – though across his 12 matches and 322 minutes of action in the competition proper throughout his career, he’s still yet to record a goal contribution.

In LASK’s 5-1 win over Celtic, which sealed their qualification for this season’s UEFA Champions League, Samuel Adeniran scored two goals and had more shots in the game (10) than the whole Celtic team combined (8).
