Aston Villa have yet to score or collect a point after two matches, having managed just 13 shots, 0.6 expected goals and 21 touches in the opposition box across their opening fixtures. That follows a summer in which players responsible for 51% of the club's Premier League minutes last season departed, including Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers, who combined for 35 league goal involvements. Villa have also conceded five goals in their first two games, compared with just one at the same stage last season. Yet there is reason for optimism.

Unai Emery's side also made a sluggish start last season before recovering to win a European trophy and secure Champions League qualification.

Hull City have become only the fourth newly promoted side to win their opening two Premier League matches.

History suggests caution, though. One of the previous examples was Hull themselves in 2016-17, when they won their first two games but were eventually relegated. The other two, Bolton Wanderers in 2001-02 and Huddersfield Town in 2017-18, survived.

Over the past 10 seasons, every promoted side to have at least 11 points after 10 matches have stayed up. Hull already have six points on the board.

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has told his players they must focus and work hard to get the club's season back on track when they travel to promoted side Hull City for Saturday evening's Premier League match.

While Villa are without a point after two games, Hull are flying with maximum points.

The stats largely offer a positive picture for promoted sides that win their first two games in a Premier League season.

But there is an exception to every rule, and Hull themselves provided it in a previous Premier League campaign...

Brentford

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews started Friday's news conference by giving a team news update.

Midfielder Mathias Jensen remains sidelined with "a little issue," and is set to miss next weeks trip to Bournemouth too.

"We’ll see how he settles over the next couple of weeks," Andrews said. "It’s nothing serious, but he certainly won’t be available for tomorrow.”

Josh Dasilva, Sepp van den Berg and Antoni Milambo are also unavailable.

Brentford

We'll move from north London to west London to hear from our final manager of the day, Keith Andrews.

His Brentford side hose Sunderland on Saturday and will be looking to continue their unbeaten start in the Premier League.

Arsenal

Mikel Arteta on if he has spoken to Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso, a friend from his childhood: "I spoke to him. I'm really happy for him [for getting the job], as I said it's incredible because we have the history we have together.

"Now to be facing each other at such a level. Now we're managing some of the top clubs in the country which is a beautiful experience."

Arsenal

Mikel Arteta on whether the door is open for Ethan Nwaneri to return to Arsenal in January after a clause was added to his loan agreement with Borussia Dortmund: "Let's see. The focus now for Ethan is to go and play at an incredible club - the atmosphere, the set-up - with Champions League in front of him and put all that talent to the service of Dortmund.

"Then we will see what happens."

On the possibility he could face Arsenal in the Champions League?: "That's a possibility that is now open. There are different rules than in the Premier League, so yes."

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on whether Ezri Konsa will be available to start: "He's certainly available in the squad, so we will have to make that selection."

On Jurrien Timber stepping up his return to fitness: "He's in really good condition at the moment. He has been a few weeks out on the pitch training with us now, so he is in a good place."

Will he be available for Sunday?: "We will decide tomorrow after training."

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta also gave an update on the fitness of France centre-back William Saliba, who has been included in the Champions League squad despite missing the start of the season with an injury picked up at this summer's World Cup:

"We don't really know the amount of weeks he is going to be out because it's about a healing process, in every human being it's a bit different.

"We know that we have to respect certain timings. The progression has been really positive in the last few weeks but we need to wait and see how that back problem react when we start to put some load into it."

On whether it was an easy decision to include him in the Champions League squad: "Yes, it was, and we had the space to do it as well."

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on the fitness of Bruno Guimaraes: "He had a knock against Villa in the previous game and he is being assessed but probably tomorrow he will be ok for training."

On whether Cristhian Mosquera will be fit to play against Chelsea after limping off against Aston Villa: "It was more precaution than anything else, so we will have to see in the next training session how he feels."

The Premier League Champions have a huge London derby ahead against Xabi Alonso's Chelsea side.

Aston Villa

Lastly, Unai Emery spoke about the the decision to leave Brian Madjo, deadline Day signing Taylor Harwood-Bellis and 21-year-old defender Modou Keba Cisse out of his league phase Champions League squad: “It is hard, the decision we took, and for the players.

"To decide, it is through the analysis of how we are expecting to be until January. We are going to play eight matches. Cisse is not in because he is injured. Madjo is still injured for the next two weeks minimum.

"Taylor arrived as the last one (signing), and we can get the balance with Lamare Bogarde, and we can even play [Boubacar] Kamara. We tried to analyse it deeply.

"Taylor will be here for a long time, and hopefully, we will have the opportunity to play in Europe with us, in January maybe, and the next few years.

"Madjo is 17 years old and is so, so young. He will have, for sure, more opportunities to play with us this year and the next years in Europe."

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery gave an update on his squad's fitness.

On 17-year-old striker Josh Madjo: "Hopefully not for so many week but still injured for the next two weeks minimum."

On summer signing Johan Manzambi: "No, not yet. He's training with the group and getting better and feeling good but he will need some days more. I don't know if for the Champions League on Tuesday or for the next match against Nottingham Forest."

On the rest of his squad: "No really bad news. I think the players they are ready and some players we have signed the last week will get progressively better and better and understanding our way to play.

"Hopefully tomorrow we can do one step forward, playing better, competing better, and hopefully getting some points."

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery offered a message to Villa supporters after a window of change: "We want to win and we want to build a team again as strong as possible and get the structure collectively and individually strong. To be a winner, to be very competitive. How much time we have to build again he team - each match is giving us a lot of" information.

The supporters must be passionate and supporting us in everything we are doing. The club is moving forward with the work as well as with Villa Park to try and get most supporters to be behind us and trying to get our level higher and higher. Now is not time to speak too much, now is the time for hard work and focusing on each match with the importance, especially tomorrow against Hull City."

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery on his side's summer transfer window: "It's one of our plans in four years to develop, to be ready in case of changes coming like this year. More than normal because the transfer are coming like that.

"They were involving a lot of players in the transfer window and being ready to do this situation with the changes we had. The players that come in - try and adapt as soon as possible, try and get the development as soon as possible.

"A lot of young players with huge potential. Some can show the potential quick and some take time. But, We are very motivated, very excited, how we can get and keep the same level we had in Premier League.

A final word from Everton manager David Moyes on the club's academy and whether more players will get a chance because of the small squad size: "We’ve got some academy players who will obviously get involved. Are they ready to make the step up? I’m not sure about that. We will see how that goes. Some of them might be pushed in."

On 18-year-old forward Braiden Graham: "I don’t think he’s a striker, first of all. He’s probably someone who would play off the sides for us.

"I like Braiden, he’s trained with us quite a lot and he was in pre-season with us.

"He’s certainly moving in the right direction. It would be a difficult ask for any young player to come in and be a source for goals."

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi was asked about Richarlison, who has been linked with a move away from the club and was left out of the club's Premier League squad: "I think Richarlison, he decided everything. He spoke with me at the start of pre-season and his idea was to leave. In the end we went to bring another striker and at the beginning of pre-season I only want the players that want to stay here with pride, passion to stay.

"Then every other problem is not my business, it's the responsibility of the club.

"I can't say anything because I didn't decide anything. The message from Richarlison from the beginning of the season was clear and I accepted that.

"I don't know if there is an offer from Turkey. I don't know if the club has accepted the offer. I know there was an offer before the end of the transfer market, but he didn't accept.

"For me, nothing has changed."
