    If Tottenham versus Sydney FC is anything to go by, this will go to penalties if it is a draw.

    There is no official rulebook given to media but this is the Sydney Cup so I presume they are playing for a trophy as well.

    Surely it's in both teams interests to keep 11 vs 11. You'd think the ref could just ask Alonso what would you prefer... I could understand if was a dangerous tackle or something. Common sense failing to prevail yet again by a referee.

    I find it really frustrating when red cards aren't shown in friendlies. If it would be justified in a competitive match, it should happen. Most teams will play with 10 men during season so good early practice.

    Friendlies are about getting minutes and fitness. There's zero point in a red card, even as a Chelsea fan. Red cards are rare enough in games that it's far more important to be getting minutes than practicing an 11vs10 scenario.

    Yes, showing a red card in a pre-season game feels a bit pointless when this is supposed to be preparation for the new season.

    But that would have been a red card in a competitive fixture and there may be times in the league when your team goes down to 10. So it's all good preparation, surely?

    I had a fiver on Spurs to win but with that lack of attacking threat, and Danso going for an early bath, I think it’s Chelsea’s for the taking.

  18. The referee has done the unthinkable

    Tottenham will not have referee Alex King on their Christmas card list this year.

    He denied them a penalty at the end of the first half and has now done the unthinkable - shown a red card in a friendly.

    In King's defence, there can be little argument that it would have been a sending-off in a competitive match, with Joao Pedro through on goal when he was pulled down by the last defender.

    But it rather undermines the point of a friendly as a preparation exercise for the new season.

    A brilliant save from Antonin Kinsky to keep his side level.

    Joao Pedro cuts it back for Estevao and his right-footed shot is tipped onto the bar by the Spurs keeper. What a save.
