“On another day it could have gone another way. It’s disappointing but we played good football.

"We could have done better, but it’s not an easy place to come. There are positives to take from it.

“We have no doubt that we were going to fight. That’s the bare minimum. We showed a lot of guts to come out here and have a good go.

“It’s a shot from outside the box which could go anywhere [that won the game]. Unfortunately, it took a deflection off me. They had other good chances, too.

“We are more than capable of playing teams at this level. We just played one of the best and gave them a good go. I’m looking forward to the next one.”

Ashley Williams will have an impact defensively, I'm sure of that.

He has won an awful lot of caps and he will be well respected by the players.

What I loved from Lewis Koumas is his energy, also his willingness and his fearlessness to say I am going to run, I am going to press.

You could just see the moments that could turn into chances and goals for him. I see high potential for him.

I thought he was really good.

I think he'll make a minimum of three changes.

There is potential there and I can see a big game for Wales and I hope so, sometimes the hardest game is the first one.

"I think it was a very good game. We controlled it and had a lot of chances but were not capable of scoring more. We wanted the three points and got that.

"We always have a point to prove. The expectations are high on ourselves. It’s a positive win for us.

"We knew they (Wales) were good. If they play in the Premier League, they need to be at a high level.

"We knew they could cause us problems. We scored one, and we didn’t concede. That’s the big thing."

We missed chances. I'm not criticising any of the forwards because you have to be in those positions to score them.

I liked the way Brennan Johnson never gave his opportunity up, Lewis Koumas and Dan James got in each other's way, but I cannot believe we didn't get an equaliser there.

I thought we were so unfortunate.

I actually think Portugal are not a very good team.

They have good players individually, but there are so many gaps, they don't pressure a lot.

They played a little bit like we saw in the World Cup - in second and third gear and thinking 'we'll be all right because we have the names'.

If you are really honest, Portugal got away with it.

"We are disappointed with the goal. We knew it was going to be a tough game against tough opposition with a lot of quality, which they showed at times.

"We knew were going to have to suffer at times. We wanted to make a real statement and show what we can do with the ball. At times we did, but something we can improve on is to do it a bit more.

"We were always going to work hard, we've shown that over a countless number of years now, but that's a given and we don't really need to talk about that.

"It's tough and there were a couple of chances at the end where we could've got a goal and that would have it a better feeling but it's never nice to lose."

We pressed high against one of the top teams and stole the ball off them. We just didn't take our chances.

I think Craig will be feeling there were really good things and that maybe we can start [like we finished] and cause an upset against Denmark or Norway.

Second half Craig Bellamy really went for it. There will be frustrations.

I think he will be proud of the way his players have gone about it.

A lot of people expected it to be two or three [goals], I did, I thought we were really up against it.

There are loads of positives to take out of tonight.

I don't think many Wales fans expected that tonight.

They were outplayed for long spells, but they very nearly left Lisbon with a point in the end.

Given the gulf in class between the squads, Craig Bellamy and his players can be hugely proud of their efforts.

It was difficult for Wales after Portugal took the lead in the first half.

But the second half for Wales was really encouraging, the substitutions, fresh legs, change of shape helped Wales.

I don't think Craig Bellamy will be happy with the defeat, but I think he'll be happy with the performance and the way they lost.

The longer the game went at 1-0, you can feel 'actually we are still in this'.

Maybe the belief came a little bit too late.

Potentially that's a huge upset so there might be a bit of disappointment in the dressing room, thinking we had our chances.

Norway were 3-2 winners over Denmark tonight so Wales are bottom of the group as things stand.

It is a still very early in the group of course.

Wales are beaten but they are by no means outclassed despite Portugal's stellar line-up.

A loss is a loss, but there are some positives for Wales after this one.

Wales have the chance to counter as they clear the corner, but Brennan Johnson and Sorba Thomas could both do better as the break fizzles out.

Portugal have a corner which Wales deal with, but then the ball goes out for another.

Wales are running out of time.
