England boss Thomas Tuchel on Levi Colwill: "I think he is very close, I think I have a very clear picture of what Levi can give to his team and to us and about his strengths.

"I wanted to give Jarrad the chance, he was injured several times when we had the chance to call him up. Now he had a very good start with Everton, is also left-footed, it was just a 51% on Jarrad because I don't have a clear idea what he is about but I have a clear picture of what Levi can bring us."

England boss Thomas Tuchel on whether the pain of losing the World Cup semi-final is the same as losing the Champions League final: "It helps you in terms of it is not the first time that you get a scar, or have sleepless nights. It is also the beauty of it, beauty of high level sports. You can't always win and it makes you feel alive, not in a nice way but you still feel the pain of high pressure moments.

"It felt different, the whole campaign felt different. As soon as you enter knock out football it is a new level of pressure. It is comparable with a [Champions League] final. I think the feeling of losing in football helps, it's just what makes me me and you know the possible outcome, knowing you have to wait for years, that's the beauty and the pain of the bronze medal was not to have an abrupt end."

England boss Thomas Tuchel on whether he will make adjustments to his style of play: "That would be the wish and sometimes I think would that be us. That would be the wish, that for 10 minutes we become like Spain here and there.

"The more I reflect on it, the more I think it is about buying into our strengths and playing more minutes like how we played in the second-half against Croatia, against France, buying into these strengths, we get value out of it.

"Football is about adapting to situations football without any control is hard to digest for a coach. Maybe I have to compromise on my wish for control for a bit more chaos and embrace the chaos."

England boss Thomas Tuchel on the inclusion of Alexander-Arnold, Palmer and Scott being indictive of regretting not picking them for the World Cup: "We want to bring in their quality, we want to see them again, we want to give them the chance to perform.

"Alex Scott is a fantastic football player, a fantastic character, so humble. I think he is one of the best midfielders at the moment in the Premier League. He deserves to be with us and for his qualities.

"The quality of Trent is undisputable, the quality of Cole Palmer we don't need to talk about it, they need to show it. What I don't want to go into is you can't be a winner of the World Cup if you are not selected.

"This would be for me, not logic. That doesn't work like that for sure. There are steps to be take, the first is to be nominated, the next is to perform and then we go."

"I am grateful I can speak about football because that is my little bit of knowledge that I have, is football. Not about sport politics."

England boss Thomas Tuchel on encountering fans and speaking to the bosses: "Got told off of course for the substitutions that I made! Just joking. We had several reviews which is good to do, which is unusual to do, because you don't have the time in club football to do so many reviews.

"It is a part of moving forwards, it is a part to learn, sometimes painful, sometimes emotional, sometimes beautiful because people speak up, about situations, about moments that you did not have so high in your priority list, that meant the world to them so it is beautiful.

"I felt all the support from all by bosses, through the World Cup. It was a very special moment before the Mexico game, where we had a talk and my bosses told me we know anything can happen in a football game, and in Mexico. Don't worry, we see what is going on and we want to continue like this. It is a beautiful moment for me as a coach.

"I felt the freedom to take my choices and to coach freely, and there was never a doubt in my mind or their mind that we will continue together. We had a critical reviews that will stay behind closed doors. I am the biggest critic of myself and reflection is necessary to get better and experience is a crucial part of coaching.

"99.9% of fans don't speak about substitutions or tactical twists, they speak about where they watched the Mexico game, the second-half of the Croatia game, how nerve-wracking it was to watch the match against Congo and where they celebrated. This is the feedback I get.

"This is what we created and this is how it should be, this is what the World Cup is for, to connect with the people and give them the experience they won't forget. It makes me proud and happy you share these little moments and that it meant something and what the players built is transmitted."

England boss Thomas Tuchel on how close Morgan Gibbs-White was to being selected: "Close but it is always the same, it does not make sense to nominate three, four number 10s, it just does not help anyone.

"We can see the form that Morgan is in, and he ended the season very strongly and was a key player for Forest to not be relegated, and we can see him stepping up now.

"I will say it is one thing to be nominated, like with Cole and getting your ticket back in the squad, but it is another thing to perform for England and that also counts.

"Cole needs to step up and show these numbers and performances to get his place and keep his shirt and justify the decision."

England boss Thomas Tuchel on Kobbie Mainoo and if he will play in the upcoming games: "Yes [he will be on the pitch across the matches], I expect him to be on the pitch and it is my duty to put him on the pitch.

"That is on me, he didn't put a foot wrong in the World Cup. He was class in the squad and training pitch. It was a big competition we played and Reece was in the centre midfield, Elliot Anderson is fantastic for us.

"Declan Rice is a very unique player. We trusted them more than we trusted Kobbie. It was a difficult moment for me, he got injured before the France game. We could not even give him minutes there which hurt me.

"Maybe he was more hurt than me but it is my responsibility to reward him for that."

England boss Thomas Tuchel on whether he would have liked Palmer and Alexander-Arnold in his World Cup squad: "No. I was very happy with the squad selection, we put a lot of effort and emphasis in to the squad selection.

"I had a lot of sleepless nights but I did not have one sleepless night about our selection because I was more than seven weeks with this group of players and they were nothing but fantastic.

"I think the spirit that we built and the mentality brought us to the place that we got. It feels unfulfilled that is how it is. The decisions in the Argentina game, sometimes as a coach you can only win if you win, so we didn't win.

"Of course I reflect, I am a critic of myself. Who knows what would have happened. Not much sense in torturing ourselves looking back."

England boss Thomas Tuchel on if his target to is still to win a World Cup with England like it was before the 2026 tournament: "Not at the moment because you only get a star for the World Championship, my contract is until the Euros so at the moment the target is to finish the cycle of the Nations League, try to win it, go to the final four and try to win it. and build on what we have.

"I feel it is not a new beginning we are starting. We build on a solid and valuable foundation and the target is to win the home Euros."

England boss Thomas Tuchel on getting over the World Cup and focusing on the next campaign: "I think by the pure nature of the first match they will be hungry to prove a point, that will not be the problem.

"Still working on my messaging because my feelings are also mixed, it is still ambiguous because I think there are very positive things to take away from qualifying from the tournament, the tournament itself and at the same time it feels unfulfilled.

"It is important to recognise the records that we have as a federation, the record we have in the last 10 years, arriving in semi-finals, quarter-finals, winning a bronze medal for the first time in 60 years. It is important to recognise that and acknowledge at the same time that we haven't pushed it over the line.

"If ambition is so high and we arrived with the highest ambition in the US, the disappointment is on the same level, also very high and the downside, we didn't only arrive ambitious, we created belief through our matches, created belief within the squad, as a country. The downside is, it hurts even more if you don't make it.

"This is where we are but I think coming back to the positives, we built the brotherhood, we had a fantastic spirit and the team showed a never give in mentality and we will not compromise on that.

"The pure example of that is that we maxed out on every single game. The slight downside on it is that we are not the most economical team to play but this is maybe a characteristic of the Premier League, you have to max out every single match.

"It is nice to have a new competition and to have the world champions in our home as our guests, it makes it easier to move forwards."

England boss Thomas Tuchel on what he wants to show England fans against Spain: "I think it is an amazing start to the Nations League campaign. We had overall in the 18 months, some fantastic and positive results. We had an immaculate qualifying campaign, then we had two friendlies and eight World Cup games, 10 matches in the US, eight victories, one draw and unfortunately one loss. That hurt a lot and still does.

"But this cycle of 10 matches is something that we want to repeat, the target is to go all the way now in Nations League. If we go all the way to the final four, we have another 10 matches, six matches are safe in the Nations League but we want to make it 10 matches to create another cycle.

"It feels to me we have already started the next campaign and the next cycle and the next period with the match against France. We lost against Argentina, we were kind of out of the tournament but we were not out because there was a bronze medal match to play. The way we played it, the way we won it against maybe the strongest team, at the moment the strongest squad. Very difficult, very impressive. I think that directs the narrative for what is coming.

"Next match is against the reigning world champions, Spain. We feel the gap is closing, we feel we are close, we want to prove a point, stadium is sold out and the motivation cannot be any higher."
