After salvaging a 2-2 draw for his side against Bournemouth, Jacob Ramsey told BBC Radio Newcastle that he was "buzzing" to make an impact from the bench.

The midfielder said: "This time last season we would probably lose them. It's a little bit disappointing to not play more games in the Premier League. It is just football. Football can change within a switch.

"Hopefully, I have shown I am more than capable to play. Two tough games, especially the first game of the season. Even last weekend [against Tottenham], I thought we played really well.

"I thought the performance in the second half [against Bournemouth] was much better, and it was good not to lose. There's been a bit of negativity around the club this summer, losing three or four big players.

"Last season probably didn't go as well as planned. New start, new manager, fresh start. Looking forward to it. I am a big believer in myself. I know I can be playing in this team and be one of the main players."

Newcastle fought back from 2-0 down to earn a hard-fought Premier League point at home to Bournemouth thanks to Jacob Ramsey's late equaliser.

The Cherries had taken an early lead when Alex Scott's deflected shot looped into the box and Marcus Tavernier stole a couple of yards on Amar Dedic at the back post and poked the ball under Lukas Hornicek.

Bournemouth added a second when Justin Kluivert's fizzing long-range effort hit the post, bounced off the back of Hornicek and dropped to Scott.

The former England Under-21 midfielder's effort from a tight angle spooned off Malick Thiaw beyond Hornicek and was chalked up as an own goal.

Newcastle pulled one back moments later when Harvey Barnes cut inside from the left and curled a stunning right-footed effort into the top corner.

Bournemouth looked to have showed the necessary grit to see out the remainder of the game only for Ramsey to strike with two minutes of normal time remaining.

A Newcastle attacking move culminated in Thiaw, with his back to goal, knocking the ball down in the box and Ramsey seizing on it to score with a low cushioned finish into the corner of the net.

That leaves us with a notable mention for the work being done by Matthias Jaissle at Newcastle, although he was almost overshadowed on Saturday by a Bournemouth side led by former Red Bull colleague Marco Rose...

Liverpool striker Alexander Isak says scoring twice in Friday's win at Ipswich "lifts some weight" off his shoulders.

Last summer's £125m signing struggled with form and injuries during his first season with the Reds, but fired past Kjell Scherpen twice inside the opening nine minutes at Portman Road to take his tally to three in three at the start of this campaign.

"Winning our first game of the season was very important and I'm happy to be on the scoresheet twice," Isak said.

"Scoring goals always lifts some weight off your shoulders. It's important, especially at the start of the season, to get off to a good start. I'm happy to score and I want to keep on building on this."

It was Liverpool's first win under new boss Andoni Iraola, who gave a debut off the bench to new £123m signing Bradley Barcola.

"It changes a lot for all of us when you have a new manager and new players come in," Isak added.

"We are all still adapting and learning the new way but we all feel all very happy and optimistic with where we are at and knowing we will only get better as well."

Liverpool made light work of newly promoted Ipswich Town on Friday night as Alexander Isak scored his first double for the club at Portman Road to secure their first Premier League win this season.

The Sweden striker produced his most devastating performance since joining from Newcastle United for a British record £125m transfer fee 12 months ago, securing victory for his side by firing past Kjell Scherpen twice inside the opening nine minutes.

The win in Suffolk was also the first of Andoni Iraola's tenure, ensuring he avoided becoming the club's first manager since Brendan Rodgers to fail to win any of his opening three Premier League games.

Liverpool took the lead inside six minutes when Isak arrowed a strike past Scherpen at his near post after an incisive pass from Cody Gakpo.

It was the first time they had taken the lead in a Premier League match this season, having fallen behind against Nottingham Forest and Newcastle. Three minutes later Gakpo and Isak combined once again to double Liverpool's advantage.

It was the third time this season that the Dutchman, who came close to joining Manchester City during the transfer window, had assisted Isak in the Premier League.

Right, we have just enough time to discuss two more teams undergoing a significant transition - Newcastle United and Liverpool.

It seems like a distant memory now, but Liverpool went into gameweek three looking for their first league win under new manager Andoni Iraola...

Iliman Ndiaye's first comment in the interview room after Saturday's win was a bit of an understatement. He told us it has "been a long journey to get to this point".

Back in 2020, the Senegal winger was playing for Hyde United, on loan from Sheffield United.

Yes, it was only six miles away from Etihad Stadium, but it was also way down in the sixth tier of English football.

Six years on, Ndiaye is now at the top table of the game and it was a promising debut - including at least one bit of magic first half, which nearly set up a goal, and a half-chance with a flicked header in the second half, as well as some lovely touches throughout the game.

He more than suits the number seven shirt and he got a standing ovation from the Manchester City fans when he was replaced.

Ndiaye told us afterwards that he moved to the club because it's "one of the biggest in the world and who wouldn't want to be here?". He also said the prospect of winning trophies was a big pull.

Hyde United is now a distant memory and Ndiaye can look forward this week to the Champions League and a Manchester derby at Old Trafford.

Manchester City clung on to a nervy victory against the Sky Blues courtesy of a string of saves from goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Erling Haaland continued his fine start to the season by converting his third goal in as many games from Antoine Semenyo's deep cross, which came after Enzo Fernandez played through a slide-rule pass to the Ghanaian.

Playing in the number eight role, Argentina international Fernandez was given licence to roam and make late bursts into the box - he touched the ball six times in the opposition area, with only Haaland managing more with 11.

Fernandez could have had a dream debut but saw two shots blocked, before being replaced after 76 minutes by fellow summer signing Ayyoub Bouaddi.

The 18-year-old Morocco international was part of City's midfield rebuild and highlights the options available to Maresca despite the departures of Bernardo Silva, Rodri, Tijjani Reijnders and Nico Gonzalez.

Illiman Ndiaye, meanwhile, became the first Senegalese player to represent City and is bound to give opposition defenders nightmares with his trickery and pace. No player attempted more dribbles in the match than his eight.

Manager Enzo Maresca said: "Enzo and Iliman [played their] first game with us and then Ayyoub and Ryan [McAidoo] their first game in front of our fans.

"That is why I said there are many reasons I am happy about our win. I think they were all good.

"Ili just had two sessions with us. He needs to understand how to move. Most of the time he was moving in the wrong way, wrong position, but he needs to learn and for sure he is going to learn."

Asked to elaborate on Ndiaye's performance, Maresca said: "When Marc Guehi has the ball and he was dropping a lot and we don't need that.

"We need him in the last third so he can be a little bit more higher. That space was more for Josko Gvardiol.

"It is the same thing in this [other] side. But it is normal and with time they will learn the way we want them to play."

Conversely, Manchester City held off newly-promoted Coventry to extend their 100% Premier League record and continue where they left off last season - toe-to-toe with Arsenal - albeit under a new manager.

Erling Haaland scored his third of the campaign and his 300th career goal in his 368th appearance.

While Antoine Semenyo's assist was his 50th goal involvement in the Premier League (37 goals, 13 assists), the second Ghanaian to reach this milestone after Jordan Ayew (67).

Summer additions Elliot Anderson, Enzo Fernandez and Iliman Ndiaye made strong appearances but it almost felt City were clinging on to a point by the end of the 90.

So how rosy is it for Enzo Maresca's side?

Coventry have lost their opening three games without finding the net for the first time in their history, with manager Frank Lampard winning only one of his past 20 Premier League games.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day after the loss at City, Lampard said: "I don't think we deserved to lose. As the game went on we grew, of course they created chances but the boys did great, I'm disappointed we didn't get what we deserved which was a point.

"We have played the two toughest teams on paper. All you can do is control the performance, the boys grew and the pressure we had in periods of the second half was great progression from Arsenal two weeks ago.

"There was a real organisation to the team, Ethan [Pinnock] came in and was great. There were not too many moments when we were on edge, I am really pleased with our lads and the fans showed what they thought of the performance.

"We should take a lot from these three games. Our season will be defined more by the games against likes of Hull, which was disappointing but we have plenty more games to come."

Hull City's form puts the results of Coventry City - another promoted side, who went up to the Premier League as Championship winners - into harsh context.

Frank Lampard's side have lost all three matches, including at home to Hull, and have failed to score in any of their games so far, although they have been away to Arsenal and Manchester City.

Saturday's 1-0 defeat at City did at least show that they can dig in and battle with one of the very best side's in the league...

Let's not discount the roll that Sergej Jakirovic's Hull City side played in Saturday's hard-earned draw at home to Aston Villa.

The promoted side entered the third round of fixtures as one of only four Premier League clubs with a 100% record after two games.

They had every opportunity to keep that record going against Villa.

The majority of Hull's attacks on Saturday went through Mohamed Belloumi on the right wing and he almost gifted a third win from as many matches to the Tigers with a stunning effort.

The Algerian winger, 24, has shown in the opening weeks he has the quality to make an impact in the Premier League after starring in their promotion campaign.

But it was not just Belloumi who threatened to inflict another defeat on Villa.

New signing Mohamed-Ali Cho forced Villa stopper Zion Suzuki into a great save after combining with Oli McBurnie in the 89th minute and, not much later, McBurnie himself failed to make proper connection with a Ryan Giles cross with the goal at his mercy.

But sitting just two points behind leaders Manchester City with a clean sheet and unbeaten after three matches is not a bad position to be in for a club that avoided relegation to League One on goal difference only last year.

Otis speaking about Spurs, but his remarks could easily refer to Aston Villa as well.

Both managers are grappling with big changes made to their squads over the summer, for differing reasons.

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery spoke last week about his side needing time to "re-build" and made a similar point after their draw to Hull on Saturday, when speaking with BBC Match of the Day:

"The players who joined us need some adaption. Some our adapting quicker than others. In everything we are building, we must try and add the players who joined us in the direction we want."

Fans are yet to see summer additions Johan Manzambi and Ibrahim Mbaye in action, so it may be too early to judge where Villa are at in terms of their attacking output this season.

But with Emery at the reins and fans seeing the potential in his new squad, it might just be a waiting game.
