  2. 'We need to be more demanding of each other as a team'published at 17:14 BST 3 May

    FT: Leicester City 1-3 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor, speaking to BBC Two: "I really have fun watching LJ [Lauren James] when she plays at that level. I think she is one of the best players in the world when she is playing with that quality, and no one needs to teach her this quality. Her talent is great to watch for the fans and her teammates. For the women’s game it’s very important to have a player like her."

On whether James was annoyed when she came off: "No, it was part of the plan, but of course it is always good when the players want to stay on the pitch. It was part of the plan to go in to the game with fresh legs though.

"I think we are in a good place. We are playing with confidence. We have a lot of intensity. The performance today was good. The important thing tonight was the result."

On the game: "In the first half we controlled the game, we created a lot of chances and scored three goals. We lost a bit of control in the last 10 minutes of the first half. I think in second half, we weren’t good enough from our standard. We need to be more demanding of each other as a team for sure. The good thing was that we could rotate the squad and go into the next game with confidence."

On Lexi Potter: “She’s young, but she has a lot of confidence on the pitch no matter who she is up against. Lexi probably deserves to play more. We have quality in Keira Walsh as well. It’s not always easy to get minutes. I am happy every time she plays. Even though she is young, she is really mature with and without the football."

  3. Table talkpublished at 17:12 BST 3 May

The 2025-26 season is almost over, and with one game to go this is how things stand.

The title is in touching distance for Man City, while dethrone champions Chelsea will have to make do with qualification for next season's Champions League.

Joining them in the last European berth will likely be Arsenal, barring any last minute slip ups in their two games in hand.

Leicester's relegation play-off fate was already sealed, but that today' second half showing gives hope that they will make strides to that second chance at survival.

  4. 'She put Australian football on the map when she joined the WSL'published at 17:11 BST 3 May

    FT: Leicester City 1-3 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea defender Ellie Carpenter speaking to BBC Two: “For us coming into this game the most important thing was the three points. We’re very happy that we have now clinched the Champions League, and now we can focus on Manchester United.”

On Sam Kerr being Chelsea’s leading goalscoring in the Women’s Super League of all time: “ I think that she is a world class striker and I’m happy to see her thriving after that long spell she had out with her knee, and I’m happy that she is back, scoring goals and what an achievement it is for an Australian as well.

“I think she is such a legend for Australian football, and she sort of put Australian football on the map when she got introduced in the WSL. She is a phenomenal world class striker and Chelsea have been lucky to have her at this club and be their all time leading goal scorer.

On Lauren James: “She’s unbelievable. World class player. She’s such a joy on the pitch, who makes magic happen and I’m very happy that she is on my team.

On the second-half performance: “they changed formation and started to press us. We didn’t play our best football in the second-half, it would have been nicer to get a couple more goals but a credit to Leicester to make the game difficult.

The message at full-time: “Just good job on qualifying which was the most important thing today and now we have an important game against City for the FA Cup. We all know what’s on the line there, so all eyes on that game.”

  5. 'The mentality in the group is amazing'published at 17:11 BST 3 May

    FT: Man City 1-0 Liverpool

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Andree Jeglertz, speaking to Sky Sports: “There are a lot of emotions, I think relief in the end. In the first half we struggled a lot. They are good, they made it difficult for us, but in the second half we were much better.

"We dominated most of the second half even though they had a couple of opportunities also. This group never gives up, we will always work so hard to find a way to win, and I think that’s what’s so special about these players. The determination is always there, they keep fighting, and that is why we are here with three points."

On Liverpool: “I think there is always an opponent doing something a little bit different than we expected. They were pressing us hard, we knew that, but they also overloaded us in a couple of situations in the beginning.

"Also, I think in the first half, there was almost too many easy mistakes, unforced errors that we normally wouldn’t do, but in the circumstances of the game, it’s a huge game for a lot of players, and then turning around the second half was amazing."

On being proud of his team's performance: “So, proud. It shows that we are working so hard, we want to be in this situation for the last round where everything is up to us. We are not playing the best football we have ever played, but the greatest teams win games anyway, and the mentality in the group is amazing, so of course I’m proud."

On being unbeaten at home: “It shows something about our stadium and the people coming to our games and how comfortable the players feel here. This is our castle and nobody is going to challenge us here.”

On the next few weeks: "We know what it is about now. We will enjoy this evening, and we have an fantastic game next weekend against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final, which will require all our focus and then after that we can talk about West Ham.”

Man city left it late to beat Liverpool earlier, meaning a win in the final game of the season will guarantee the title, regardless of what chasers Arsenal do.

  7. 'We always say the foxes never quit'published at 17:03 BST 3 May

    FT: Leicester 1-3 Chelsea

    Leicester City

Leicester City goalkeeper Katie Keane, speaking to BBC Two: “I think the first three goals were class finishes from them and there wasn’t much you could do. Sometimes that happens in football, and you take it one day at a time, one game at a time. We really went for it and I’m really proud of the girls in what we reacted and tried to come back from that. It was my debut at home, it was a massive game for me and I’m delighted that my family were able to see it.”

On playing at the King Power stadium for the first time: “Just a young girl from Ireland going against them [Sam Kerr and Laura James], it’s incredible, it’s a dream come true, but obviously it wasn’t the scoreline we wanted but we are all focused on everything now and after, because we want to stay here and not go here.”

On Leicester's second half performance: “I think Sam Tierney is an amazing character and an amazing captain. Once that third goal went in we said that’s enough, we’re not letting any more in, we have to fight, and Rick [Passmoor] just repeated that within the changing room and gave us a few pointers to go after, and that’s what we did. We kept fighting to the very end.”

On the last two games of their season: “We deserve better than what we have had this season. All of us feel that. We fight for each other and stick together. We just love each other, and we are family. Those last two games are huge for us, and it’s clique, but we always say the foxes never quit."

  8. 'They are good players but they lack confidence and belief'published at 16:59 BST 3 May

    FT: Leicester City 1-3 Chelsea

    Leicester City

Leicester City boss Rick Passmoor speaking to BBC Two: "Once we understood the basics of win your battles, win tackles, have energy and passion as a maximum, then look for the chance to pass and play, we were improved. They are good players but they lack confidence and belief."

On half time reminder of taking positives: "The baseline for yourself being a professional is work rate, passim and pride. Playing here in front of the fans, get them on the edge of their seats and they will back you. They are minimum standards. Can you outbattle and outwork the opposition? That then gives you an opportunity to pass and play. We are in a difficult position in terms of confidence and momentum."

On teenager Keane's full debut in goal: "She likes the attention in terms of shot stopping like all keepers do. We have three great keepers here and we weren't worried one bit about putting her in the team."

On looking ahead to the relegation play-off: "Many strengths and values in the changing room. It is about using everyone's expertise around the training ground. It is great when you are winning but you don't get many seasons like that. We have to stick together and work on confidence and try to build momentum."

"You make sure you work with multi disciplinary staff and we have some already working behind the scenes on Charlton but we also have to look at Everton [next week] as well."

  10. 'Everyone knows what our end goal is'published at 16:50 BST 3 May

    FT: Leicester City 1-3 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea forward Lauren James speaking to BBC Two: “I think going into each game I just try to have as much as much fun as possible, and when I’m in a good space, I just try to play my game. Today I managed to get two good goals, I’m disappointed that I didn’t get the the hat-trick but I just wasn’t on the pitch long enough, but I’m happy to get on the score sheet."

On her first goal: “I think in the moment in it never feels like that, I have to watch it back later to see. It just opened up, and I thought let me just hit it."

On her second: “I think I was looking at where the keeper was, and it was quite close to be fair. I think a few people thought I wouldn’t go over, but, the keeper gave me the other side, so I went for that corner. Two steps, not bad."

On qualifying for Champions League football: “Yeah, it’s huge. It’s something that this club has always wants to achieve and to get the win today, it means we’re playing in the Champions League next season, which is massive. Everyone knows what our end goal is.”

On the upcoming FA Cup final: “Trophies are what Chelsea do as a club, and hopefully we can take the momentum into today’s game and the past games into the next match."

  11. 'I don't know if it gets more special than this'published at 16:47 BST 3 May

    FT: Leicester City 1-3 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea forward Sam Kerr speaking to BBC Two about becoming the club's all-time top scorer in the Women's Super League: "Every goal is important, whether it is your first or your last. The first few were the most special, coming here to the league from America. There have been some pretty special goals in my career, but I don't know if it gets more special [than this].

On her landmark goal: "To be fair I missed a sitter last week and Niamh [Charles] has not let me live down. I know the type of balls she puts in so I was just trying to get ahead of the defender and head down."

On getting back to speed this season after her ACL injury: "I probably didn't play as much as I would have liked at the start of the season. You have seen when I get rhythm and games under my belt I start scoring. I've not scored as many in the league as I'd have liked but to come back from an ACL and still be top scorer in the league for a club like Chelsea is great.

"The biggest challenge is when I got injured there was a lot of change. Coming back into a new team was a challenge, creating those connections. Time has helped, the first few months you are nervous coming back in. The more and more I have played I have been able to build the connections and start scoring."

On Millie Bright's retirement: "It's sad to see anyone go, but for Millie being captain and a mainstay of the team, she has been here the whole time since I've been at the club. So it is sad she had to retire. As i friend I did selfishly try to talk her out of it but she was ready. I'm sure I'll be in touch with her."

45 minutes played, two stunning goals, but just another day at the office for the mesmeric Lauren James.

She had her fingerprints all over that first half blitz from Chelsea - no wonder she was Lindsay's pick for player of the match.

  14. 'James was the best player on the pitch'published at 16:36 BST 3 May

    Leicester City 1-3 Chelsea

My player of the match has to go to Lauren James. I know that she hasn’t been on the pitch for this second half, but her impact and influence on that first half, with those two sublime goals she scored.

The fantastic footwork around the box for the first one, and curls it into the corner and her second, a nonchalant freekick off the underside of the bar. I think she has been the best player on the pitch today, and she’s only been on the pitch for 45 minutes.

  15. 'Chelsea damage done in the first half though Leicester will take pride'published at 16:32 BST 3 May

    Leicester City 1-3 Chelsea

    Lindsay Johnson
Former Everton defender on BBC Two

I think the damage was done by Chelsea in the first half with those three goals in thirty three minutes, they put the game to bed but Leicester gave themselves a bit of hope with that goal from O’Brien, which was the catalyst to their performance and gave them belief in that second half.

Chelsea obviously, were in second gear for most of the match, and I think Leicester will take some pride moving forward.

  16. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:24 BST 3 May

    Leicester City 1-3 Chelsea

No further goals in the second half as a much improved Leicester hold off an eased off Chelsea to ensure the deficit remains at two.

Hope for the rock bottom Foxes as they look to build into that relegation play-off later this month, and official confirmation for Chelsea that they will be playing Champions League football next term.

Leicester look like they might have one last chance as Noemie Mouchon picks up the ball just into the Chelsea half before driving towards the box.

She does well to hold off several covering defenders and make it over the white line but an accidental collision with Sandy Baltimore quells any opportunity for a shot at goal.

  18. Postpublished at 90+1 mins

Fully concur with Lindsay, it's been a marked improvement from the Foxes, which will give them hope in the weeks ahead.

Yes Chelsea have eased off but the Foxes have also been more solid at the back and more composed on the ball as well.

  19. 'We've seen belief and passion'published at 16:20 BST 3 May

    Lindsay Johnson

We have said before what does Rick Passmoor want from this? For his team to be competitive, to have that belief and that passion, and I think that we have seen that when they got that goal to make it 3-1.
