And that brings us to the end of this Norwich City Fans Forum.

The hour flew by and there was a feeling that this could be a positive season for the Canaries.

Head coach Philippe Clement says the hard work put in by his players in pre-season means they "will get the rewards" in the upcoming nine months.

The final question is to Philippe Clement, who is asked if he is tough on his players.

"Before the start of the season, every player was given a questionnaire on what they want to do in their careers and every single player said 'I want to play in the Premier League'.

"We are tough on them, but at the same time I think they love that.

"It's not to hurt them or to toughen them up. There is no escape route to get to the Premier League. It is the normal way to get where they want to get to."

Ben Knapper is asked whether the club is prepared for life in the Premier League and if he thinks it would be able to stay in the top flight for more than one season:

"Of course, we do think about that and it can be done. That is of course the goal, but it is not easy to do. You need huge resources. That is the goal but first you have to get there," Knapper said.

Philippe Clement is asked about the club's controversial third kit.

"It's a good thing that not everyone has the same taste otherwise life would be boring. Personally, I prefer the black away kit. It's good that there are different tastes otherwise every man would chase the same woman and every woman would chase the same man!"

A young Canaries fan asks Philippe Clement for an injury update on Serbian midfielder Mirko Topic.

"He is still out for a while.

"We cannot expect Mirko to be back to full fitness on his first day [back]. He will need time to come back to his level. That is the competitive side of football. Of course, we will need rotation with the relentless schedule of a Championship season," Clement said.

Philippe Clement is asked about the season in front of him - and the play-off places going down to eighth as of next season:

"I expect a tougher competition this year than last year. The three teams coming down [West Ham, Burnley and Wolves], Middlesbrough, Southampton - still in the league - and Wrexham and Birmingham spending a lot of money.

"It is going to be a big ambition to be in the top eight."

Clement is then asked if the ambition is making one of the top two automatic spots.

He said: "It's important for fans to dream and we want to be the highest but you have to be realistic as well. Let's start game by game. This season will be a marathon - I believe a lot in the qualities of the squad. There are a lot of steps ahead of us."

On season-tickets and whether the number of holders has gone down, Zoe Webber said: "It's important to make them affordable.

"It is a balance, this year we have had an attrition of season-ticket holders from those that don't renew [of] around 1,000 to 1,500."

Philippe Clement responds to a question on set-pieces, and his decision last season to pull everyone back to mark up at corners.

"We've been the best team in the league on chances created against us from set-pieces. We are a less physical team in the air. We are more focused on playing football [on the floor]."

Ben Knapper is then asked the first question about the women's side and what it will take to get into the WSL.

Knapper said: "It's a big project that's underway. We will have more answers on that in four to six months, I don't think that will be our expectation after just achieving promotion, but we also feel very good as well.

"The gap between tier four and tier three isn't that big, but at the moment the goal after promotion is to be competitive."

Ben Knapper is then asked about Jimmy Gilligan who just this evening was appointed the club’s new Football Development Director.

"Jimmy's one of the most experienced player developers in the country," Knapper said.

"We will bring up a really good relationship. He's a really exciting one, someone who we really feel can push our staff.

"This pre-season we've seen a number of youngsters do well but we want to super-charge that situation."

Ben Knapper then reflects on his appointment of Liam Manning at the start of last season, which led to him receiving a lot of criticism:

"It's never easy. It's never particularly pleasant but you try not to be influenced and you hope that, over time, these moments pay off," he said.

"It can make you a bit stronger as well. You learn more and become more resilient. I look back at it now and think I am better off for it and I'd like to think I am now a better version of myself."

Sporting director Ben Knapper is then jokingly asked if he has brought a left-back with him to The Forum this evening.

"We are very, very close. I would like to think that within the next 24-48 hours, we'll give you something to tell you about," he responds on the potential addition of a new left-back.

Knapper confirms he is closely following the situation of former loanee Ben Amass, who picked up an injury while at Carrow Road last season, but it is not expected at this stage that Amass will be returning to the club.

"We were gutted how it ended. At the moment we are exploring something else."

Clement is then asked about what he has learnt in pre-season and what the difference is in playing sides from different countries, such as Osasuna, who Norwich had a fixture with on Saturday.

"I think the club found a really good level of opponents," Clement said. "I wanted to avoid away trips as much as possible because you lose time and you lose one, two training [sessions]."

The second question is regarding the future of Matej Jurasek, who joined the club from Slavia Prague in 2022.

"He had a lot of injuries. He is working really hard - body-wise there is a big difference from six months ago," Clement said.

"It's easy as a fan, 'this one [player] is good enough, get rid of him'. You need to invest time with people in the building - that is my job".

The first question from the floor is from a fan called Chris.

Inquiring about Clement's welfare, Chris asks the head coach: "Who is looking out for Philippe Clement?"

"I think you are fans of an amazing, family club," Clement responds. "I know at the beginning of last season, there were hard times. A lot of people work day and night to get this club where it wants to be.

"The club is a family, and I feel part of that. The kitchen is amazing! I don't remember food as good as this at a club before."

Executive director Zoe Webber is asked about the situation at Carrow Road, which had included plans to move fans from their seats:

"We put all of those plans on hold. We've been working with architects to improve our footprint. These things aren't straightforward. We can move our segregation barrier within the south stand and make tickets not sold by away fans available to home fans".

Regarding Norwich's increasing injury list, Philippe Clement admits it is frustrating but says he has been impressed by the squad's efforts in pre-season:

He said: "The difference [from last pre-season] is massive. They worked with a really good load in the last five weeks. It was much more than what they did last season.

"In the Championship last season, we were one of the best physically in the league. We will get the rewards during the season, I am very convinced by that."

Philippe Clement is now on stage, accompanied by Zoe Webber and Ben Knapper.

The first question to Philippe Clement is regarding Ali Ahmed's current fitness.

Clement says he "cannot say too much on the matter at the moment" as he awaits the outcome of his scan but admits the situation "does not look good".

Knapper adds that the club are "currently supporting" Ali at the moment "but are not in the position yet to add clarity on the situation".

Clement is preparing for his first full season in charge of Norwich after replacing Liam Manning, who was sacked with the club second-bottom of the Championship on 8 November.

The former Rangers boss turned the club's fortunes around and his side ended the season with 13 wins in their last 20 league matches as they ended the campaign in ninth.

Norwich boss Philippe Clement has been able to bring three new faces through the door at Carrow Road this summer.

Winger Andre Brooks has been brought in from Sheffield United, Brazilian defender Bruno Alves has arrived on a season-long loan from Cruzeiro, and Sam Field has made his initial loan move from Queens Park Rangers a permanent one.

This summer, the Canaries have said goodbye to a number of players whose contracts had expired, including experienced central defender Shane Duffy, Jeffrey Schlupp and Emiliano Marcondes, while back-up keeper George Long has joined Southampton on a permanent basis.
