    England 0-0 Costa Rica

A scrappy opening few minutes with a couple of fouls given on both sides.

It looks more like English weather conditions out there compared to Saturday's 37C.

  2. 'Bellingham is playing higher up'published at 22:05 BST

Interestingly, looking at Jude Bellingham's position, he is playing higher up. He is almost alongside Harry Kane.

  3. Postpublished at 2 mins

    England 0-0 Costa Rica

Thomas Tuchel (and England fans) will hope for a better performance here than against New Zealand.

The pitch looks pretty soggy but it's remarkable that it's cleared as quickly as it did.

    Off we go. Some football.

  5. Lowkey in Kansas as City gets ready for England to arrivepublished at 22:02 BST

    Alex Howell
BBC Sport England reporter in Kansas

I’m in Kansas City, the place where England’s World Cup training camp is once these warm up friendlies are finished and you can’t escape signs preparing locals for the tournament.

However, I’ve come to a sports bar in the city to get the game on and I’m the only one here to watch the Three Lions.

England aren’t playing any games in Kansas but are basing themselves here due to it’s central location and the fact that it will mean they have less travel time as the tournament progresses - should they get there.

It seems this line-up is as close to the starting XI against Croatia. Hopefully we get full throttle, but I doubt that.

    Ian Dennis
BBC Radio 5 Live senior football reporter at the Inter&Co Stadium

I think Thomas Tuchel's comments previously about Jude Bellingham might have done a bit of damage to team spirit, but they are rebuilding it, and they're rebuilding it in their own way.The team spirit is something they are very big on. In that sense, it is a continuation of what Sir Gareth Southgate was trying to achieve.

  9. 'Important' game to 'climatise' - O'Reillypublished at 21:58 BST

England v Costa Rica (22:00 BST)

    England

England's Nico O'Reilly, speaking to ITV: "The game is important for us preparation wise. It will be a good test. The pitch is good. Nothing wrong with it and we're ready to go."

On the game: "Hopefully, a win that is the most important. Get the stuff we need fitness wise, and climatise to the weather. It is still very hot."

On starting: "It means a lot. Obviously, full focus on this game. We have got to go out there and do what I need to do."

The World Cup will throw up some players that we haven't seen before.

There will be upsets within this competition. The World Cup will always throw up something special at some point.

Once the football kicks off - it will be a stunning spectacle.

  11. 'Why are England playing this friendly?'published at 21:56 BST

England v Costa Rica (22:00 BST)

    Neil Johnston
    BBC Sport in New York

    .

I'm in Carragher's Bar in New York where some England fans have gathered to watch this match.

Luke Welch from Manchester says it was wrong to schedule a friendly so close to the start of the tournament.

"Why are we playing a friendly on the eve of the World Cup," he tells me.

"It's so risky. What if one of the main players gets injured?".

Luke has tickets for Brazil against Morocco at the MetLife Stadium on Saturday, but has been priced out of following England in the United States.

"I looked for tickets but they cost thousands of pounds," he says.

"It's left a bad taste. This World Cup could have been such a monumental tournament but I think it's going to be a nightmare."

Struggling a little with the exclusion of Guehi and Rashford. The back especially looks a bit rickety.

  13. Stones and Konsa for the first game against Croatia?published at 21:54 BST

I think that is pretty much as strong as Thomas Tuchel will go. Noni Madueke may change for Bukayo Saka.

When you look at that team - that is where we are at. I thought it would be John Stones alongside Marc Guehi, but he has gone for Ezri Kona.

I don't think you want to change it too late on before the first game. It looks like Stones and Konsa for the first game against Croatia.

  14. 'Tuchel has enormous faith in Stones'published at 21:53 BST

I am slightly surprised that John Stones starts ahead of Marc Guehi.

I thought it would be Guehi and Ezri Konsa. Thomas Tuchel has this enormous faith in Stones.

Stones barely started a game in the Premier League for Manchester City...

  15. 'It's about stepping up intensity'published at 21:51 BST

England boss Thomas Tuchel speaking to ITV about the starting eleven : "Yeah, [it] can start any match. It's a very strong lineup and we have very strong players from the bench. We need it. We want to take the next step and push the boundaries a bit after the ten days and end the prep camp in a good way."

On if tonight is about confirming positions for some: "No it's about stepping up intensity off the ball and with the ball and see what we are able to produce. We can see we make progress in training, when we check the blood and sweat of the players so acclimatisation is there, we are getting fitter and fitter. Now it's on the team to show and have a good performance. That's why we are here."

On Jude Bellingham: "I think it’s the first time that he plays with Harry [Kane], Declan [Rice] and Elliot [Anderson] together so it's a good test of concept. We wanna see that and we have said many times he's in excellent shape, everyone else is in excellent shape. We have a strong lineup and a strong bench."

On Harry Kane and whether it crossed his mind not to start him due to risk: "No, no, he would be very upset with me if I would bring this up! He's determined and why wouldn’t he. It's the best time to have his 60 minutes today and then he's ready to start against Croatia."

  16. Benched players are 'annoyed'published at 21:50 BST

England v Costa Rica (22:00 BST)

    Stephen Warnock
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live at Inter&Co Stadium

I can tell you know by looking at the body language of some of the players that are on the bench.

They are annoyed because they're now thinking, 'I'm not starting the World Cup, I know what the team is.'

Down below us, you have Morgan Rogers keeping the ball up on his own, chatting to one of the coaching staff - he is disappointed.

Marc Guehi has been a little bit disappointed as well. You can see it with his body language. Marcus Rashford has a frustrated body language, slumped shoulder down.

The thing is they can still have an impact.

Just looking at the weather radar, all the storms look like they are heading away from Tampa and moving inland.

Still the chance of brewing up a few more in the area in the next hour or two then the risk diminishes as the heat of the day dies down.

  18. 'No problem at all'published at 21:47 BST

England v Costa Rica (22:00 BST)

    England

England boss Thomas Tuchel speaking to ITV about the weather: "It gives us a little taste of what can happen in the tournament. We were aware of that before, now we experience it. It’s no problem. It should not be an excuse to lose our mood or patience or to lose our hunger to play the game."

On the delay: "No problem at all. We realised it when we were still at the hotel so it was easy we just said half an hour later in the bus and let’s go."

On whether it's a relief to still have a game: It didn't cross my mind that it was so severe. We were aware that it can be thunder and lightning and some delays but I didn’t think that we would maybe miss the whole game. It seems like we have a game."

On the pitch: "I was out there. It seems quite dry, surprisingly dry for the amount of water that came down but they know what they're doing and it seems good to play."

Can we be over-reliant on Harry Kane?

Yes, of course we can, because he is our main man.

In this country, we seem to do this thing where we have someone who is unbelievable, so let's love him, but we don't. We go...What happens if he gets injured?

Us as English people, I don't understand why we think in a negative way. We always do it. Every single competition.

    Let's just enjoy it.

One thing that pretty much all England fans seem to agree on is that without Harry Kane, the Three Lions would be struggling.

He scored the only goal in the narrow win over New Zealand on Saturday to take his tally to 79 goals in 113 games for England.

This season, he has scored 67 goals for club and country and England fans will be hoping he can continue his Bayern Munich form into this tournament.
