Derry City have now gone six games without a win in the League of Ireland Premier Division after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Shelbourne at Celtic Park on Monday night.

The result means the Candystripes remain three points behind fifth-placed Shels, who have a game in hand over Tiernan Lynch's side.

Derry have drawn five of those past six matches and have drawn 10 of their 19 top flight encounters this season.

Joey O'Brien's Shels went into the fixture on the back of successive wins and are now six unbeaten.

It was a scrappy match of few chances, with James Clarke off-target with an effort in the first half for the hosts.

After the break, home goalkeeper Eddie Beach denied Evan Caffrey, while late on Patrick McClean headed over from his brother James' delivery.

Derry's last win came against champions Shamrock Rovers on 24 April, one of only five wins from 20 outings in the Premier Division this term.

The home team's next game is away to Dundalk on Friday night.

Monday's game is expected to be Derry's penultimate game at the home of the Derry GAA team, with the visit of Bohemians on 12 June set to be the last before they return to their resurfaced Brandywell ground.
