Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic on team news: "He [Nobel Mendy] is in concussion protocol so seven days off, after this he will go to the national team. Everything is fine, he is good, this is most important. Now he will miss this game.

"We have a few more problems in some positions. [Matt] Targett two days ago twisted his ankle so he's questionable, we will see tomorrow.

"[Hidemasa] Morita is still out so the plan is he will join us after the first week of the international break."

Newcastle will face a Hull side who have had a remarkable start to the season. Last season's Championship play-off winners are unbeaten in their opening four games, including a draw at Chelsea last time out.

We are fully aligned and fully committed to showing a reaction in front of our fans. We are optimistic, even though we've had challenges with a couple of our players missing. There has been really positive communication, body language and willingness in training. We are all very committed.

"It would be nice to finish this block of fixtures, before the international break, with a good result."

Newcastle United boss Matthias Jaissle on the timing of the upcoming international break: "It is better for us that we have the international break at this stage [because of our injury list]. I would've enjoyed continuing to play and improving some more, but we face it like it is. We cannot influence it."

On whether Dan Burn will return after the two-week break: "I hope so. He is working so professionally. He will be working hard to get back fit like the other lads."

Newcastle United boss Matthias Jaissle started by providing an update on Anthony Elanga after his exclusion from the matchday squad last time out: "There's no real update. I've spoken with him now and he is heading for an MRI scan. We will get more clarity after that, I hope it's not too serious. It is sad after the great start he had. He is a key strength in our squad, but we want to stay positive."

On wider team news: "There are no new players coming back for the Hull City game, but we use that as an opportunity for others to come in.

"Amar Dedic will also not be able to play on Saturday. Nico Gonzalez was unlucky, but we have a responsibility to follow the league protocols so he will be missing too. Jacob Ramsey is injured.

"Hopefully our injury list is shorter after the international break."

Longer-term injury concerns Dan Burn, Will Osula and Joelinton are still sidelined.

It was one of Newcastle United's compartively shorter bus journeys home, but you suspect it did not feel that way on Monday night.

Not after a bruising 4-1 defeat against Leeds United at Elland Road.

No wonder head coach Matthias Jaissle swore in his post-match news conference to illustrate how low he felt after his first defeat.

This was a night where Newcastle's tendancy to give up chances and their failure to create enough opportunities caught up with them following a five-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

But what was most startling was how the visitors were bullied by rampant Leeds.

There will be plenty of ups and downs for this young side this season, but a response is sorely needed for the visit of in-form Hull City at the weekend.

Given the number of injuries Newcastle have at the moment - defender Dan Burn, midfielder Joelinton and forwards William Osula and Anthony Elanga are among those sidelined - it will fall to the majority of the players who floundered at Elland Road to bounce back.

We will learn a lot more about them and, indeed, Jaissle by how they react.

Newcastle United suffered a bruising 4-1 defeat at Leeds on Monday night, and will aim to turn their fortunes around when hosting Hull on Saturday.

"I think it's the same, more or less the same [squad] as the other night. Yeah, so nothing really changed on that front."

This would mean Friday's game comes too soon for Mathias Jensen, while Nathan Collins and Sepp van den Berg are targeting a return after the international break.

Andrews also confirmed young forward Kaye Furo had surgery on his metatarsal on Monday: "The operation went well. He's in a good place."

I would expect not available [for the weekend]. It is a blow because he is a player that we managed to acquire early in the summer window that we like and he has come in and made a really good impact around the place, on and off the pitch. He is a good player and will get better with more games and game time in the premier league so it is a blow to lose him as I said what he has shown but it is what it is."

Academy prospects Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli, Reggie Watson and Tayo Subuloye have been training with Chelsea's first team this week before Friday's Premier League meeting with Brentford.

Watson, 16, made his debut in last week's 6-3 Carabao Cup win over Leeds. However, Nicoll-Jazuli, also 16, and 18-year-old Subuloye are yet to make their senior competitive debuts, despite featuring in pre-season friendlies under Xabi Alonso.

The trio were notably absent from Chelsea under-21s' EFL Trophy defeat by Wycombe Wanderers in midweek, having instead trained with the senior squad.

It remains to be seen whether Alonso will include any of them in his plans for the Blues' final match before the international break, against Brentford on Friday night.

Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso on Marco Palestra: "For sure the adaptation is through the competition, sometimes you can take it gradually but other players need to go straight to the competition, to have a good impact, to learn quick and we will be there to help Marco.
