If anything Argentina look likelier to score the next goal. Lionel Messi wins the ball back and drives towards the edge of the box but slips just before he's about to shoot.

Argentina have scored three headed goals in their last two FIFA World Cup matches, more than in their previous 25 matches in the tournament dating back to 2010.

Switzerland had started so positively but in Argentina's first real attacking opportunity, Mac Allister heads the ball into the back of the net. What a finish. It's a brilliant header.

Argentina's corner is whipped in low by Messi and somehow goes through a mass of bodies and out for a corner on the other side.

Argentina drive forward. The volume goes up as Lionel Messi gets on the ball. He tees up Alexis Mac Allister on the edge of the box whose shot deflects behind for a corner.

Yeah, the Swiss are playing with confidence. Argentina look nervy.

But can Switzerland make this momentum count?

Switzerland keep the ball well, they're comfortable on the ball and they have some really excellent technical players. If they lack anything it's just a bit of punch, a bit of creativity in that final third.

Switzerland have been the better side so far and create the first chance as Fabian Rieder dances past a marker and Dan Ndoye receives his cut-back but scuffs his shot which is blocked.

Then Granit Xhaka wellies a follow-up over the bar.

Enzo Fernandez is tackled, quite roughly, but play is waved on. Switzerland keep the ball for a bit.

Good defending from Argentina's Nahuel Molina who tackles Dan Ndoye and gets the ball to ricochet off his opponent and out for a goal kick.

It's a beautiful, warm evening here in Kansas. There is a clear, blue sky above the stadium. It's the exact same setting as when Argentina played Algeria here in their group game and Messi scored a hat trick.

Nice start from Switzerland this, passing the ball around, not letting Argentina settle.
